With the advent of so much computer assisted machinery taking over many jobs (or parts of) it's good to see tradesmen who still have skills deserving of praise.
Great timing! I’m currently building an extension. Ordered the kitchen then realised the utility door would open on to the units so decided to make it a pocket door. I’ve ordered a “JEXIS Pocket door ejector” so when you come to close the door you simply push the edge of door and it pops out instead of trying to get your fingers in to close it. Hoping it works! Love how you’ve finished that single door off. The brush strips are a great idea. Looks smart!
Great job very fiddley I rember doing something similar years ago I left a pocket out behind the architraves so you could get to adjust the door and then cover up with the moulding but that's a real good system you have especially with the gaskets 🤟👋🇮🇪☘️ stay safe 👍
Another great video from skill builder I love the little magnet tip at the end. I really like those doors and it's nice to see you chose a walnut rather than everyone's go to door - oak.
I carry a saucepan in my van and I have no idea why. Perhaps one day I will twat somebody with it, like Yom and Jerry, in which case it is an offensive weapon.
Love the choice of unique walnut doors makes such a difference from your usual white primed doors! One thing I would add about the pocket doors would be how far they return into the partition. Once you router your handles in on both sides it's best to have the door sticking enough to see the handle so that you're able to reach the handle on both sides of the door to close it. It's works better than trying to fish for the top of the door everytime you want to close it. Nothing wrong with what you've done its something I've come across fitting them. Top work as always!
I watch a bunch of vids of luxury boats on Aquaholic, and for obvious reasons pocket doors are very popular where space is at such a premium. The usual answer is to have a flush fit pop out handle on the edge face of the door. i.e. you push the top with your thumb and it swings a handle out below that you can grab and pull. Alternatively there are sprung loaded pop out handles for the edge and there are even doors you can push and the whole door springs out, presenting the handles on the main face. I'm a bit surprised you don't know about these hardware solutions if you fit these types of doors often. Edit: Just noticed the thread necromancy :-)
Will be interesting to see what type of handle they go for! As with a traditional handle you won't be able to full close the door (or push it into the reveal) as the handle will hit the wall and leave 3-4 inches showing. Also, with the door fully in the reveal how will you pull it out?
Hi Robin, Amazing work as always. You have been inspiring me to start my own DIY pocket door project innthe UK. However, straight at the beginning I've encountered an issue with my cavity wall width. The cavity in our walls is only 6cm deep. There is no system that works with that. The minimum I've found is 100mm. Of course, I've reconsidered maybe we shouldn't have pocket sliding but just wanted you as you may have an idea. Any practical information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much! Keep up the good work. Keep those vids coming. Cheers 👍
Tip: add a small piece of plastic over the screw heads before you fill them and you avoid having to dig out the filler from the screw head. We do this when adding abalone inlays over screw heads on guitars.
Hi Robin, I really enjoy the insights in your build. I found it interesting that Roger included a tiny snippet of your conversation with your wife (I presume) in the video. On that theme, I have a request for a video on the Capel build (maybe after completion) is a video from your wife & family's view. What did they want, what do you think you are crazy for doing, what did they not understand the reason for but now could not live without, etc?
An airplane in your dream indicates that you will overcome your obstacles. You will rise to a new level of prominence and status. With the high elevation of a traveling airplane, it reflects an experience of great awareness and higher consciousness. The hedges represent restrictions and obstacles in your path preventing your progress and the wings cutting through denotes your intention to remove anything in your way.
Had to do a pocket door with a hanging sliding door track a couple of years ago, after seeing what you did with the lining and architrave you’ve just made me smile as that’s what I did to hide the brackets and pocket. Nice to know when your own work is in the right direction 😅 Is the brush strip a generic product or was it in the kit for the running gear?
Nice job and doors. Question. Although the doors look good flush when open how does one who isn’t the tall close them if they’re flush into the pocket. Hope that makes sense
Great video thanks. What filler do you use for the screws it's a big hole to fill and I have struggled in the past with Brad nail filler expanding. Use a 2part now but would like to know what you recommend. Thanks
Think he did a video installing the fixtures, there's three finger pulls, one on the frame edge and one on each face (bigger pulls on the face obviously), so door fully recesses into the pocket.
First of all, look amazing, However, I have a question, ....I am putting a pocket door in a garage conversion,I am using a Henderson pocket door, the manual gives the height for the rough opening, but is this before or after the finished floor? First time doing a pocket door and any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and stay safe !!
Can i get a Pocket door for a 80mm wall stud ? Left side will be a solid brick wall so no stud needed so gain a bit . Sooooo, 5mm - 40mm door - 5mm leaves 30 mm for p brd and frame could this work i wonder.
Zero clearance inserts (but can be hard to make/install and/or dangerous on table saws), use tape on cuts to help stop tear-out. As mentioned plunge/track saws help but you still get tear-out with those too.
dont the doors have any kind of handles, reason im asking is ,i have bad hands from working down the pit and i personally would struggle to open them????
Hi robin, what do you think I should charge for fitting a similar set up, sim kit, partition, hang doors, slab walls, architraves, pull handles etc, any help appreciated
It's hard to say without seeing the room or location of the partition its height length etc, but you first have the stud frame to work out and build so allow a day for then allow a day to fit the pocket door systems and set up the doors etc, then you have to plasterboard and skim etc then second fix and handles etc, oh and decorations, just the carpentry side is about 4 days, then add for plastering and all.materials timber doors paint etc, hope that helps
Recurring dreams Robin, tell me about it. I'm no expert but I'm sure dreams where you are constantly frustrated are a sure sign of being unsettled about something. Mine ALWAYS involve being away from home and unable to get back, no matter what I do. Have you noticed that you never have a recurring dream about laying on a beach in Barbados drinking a never ending Pina Colada.
As beautiful as these are, sliding a door to one side just doesn't seem a natural way to progress from one room to another. At least in one direction one can move forward as the hinged door swings open. As space savers of course they're idea but here? Excellent craftsmanship though.
If you are thinking about the heavy breathing that is coming from the camera mic. Roger is looking through the eyepiece and it close to the mic. We kept both mics on so we could get a bit of conversation.

Another great video guys. Will you show us the doors when they are finished to see how the doors and handles will work? Thanks again

Those doors look fantastic. Are the handles are fitted on the door face? If so, don't they restrict the door(s) from opening fully?

What stops the doors moving at the bottom when there closed? Is there a rail or something.Great Video Robin keep them coming.
It's just adjustable plastic like U shape.
I made a walnut section that is grooved, the kit comes with plastic peices but there not for me!!!
looks great robin but when the pocket door closes shut and its flush with the frame how will you get your fingers into the door pull
They have special caps. First make a hole and stick that cover caps
@@ru_ss5415 the door edge is in the sliding door pocket
thats the only problem with picket doors you have to put the stop inside the pocket to revile the handle which limits the opening size

What kinda Handel’s can you use on pocket doors??? If you have sunken Handel’s then how do you get it when it’s in the pocket??????

Zero clearance inserts (but can be hard to make/install and/or dangerous on table saws), use tape on cuts to help stop tear-out. As mentioned plunge/track saws help but you still get tear-out with those too.
