    This was the opening that kept me from being slaughtered in the first half dozen moves. It was Build Your Castle, then Survey The Land. A very feudal mise en place.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  3 года назад +8

      You know it Alan! I actually really like that description of the opening - we are just building a castle, minding our own business. After that, we can start to survey what on earth is going on with the rest of the board.

      We only need to adjust the move order but not the moves themselves. This is great. So much easier to remember. We need not fear the French, the Pirc, the Caro Kann, the Sicilian, nor the Alekhine. That is such a relief.

      OK but if Black plays the Scandi with 1...d5? A real PITA. Which is why I always start with 1.Nf3. One less opening to worry about.

    • @ShadowCider
      @ShadowCider 3 месяца назад

      @jonshive5482 If you just use the KIA as white, you can add the KIA and an anti scandinavian opening, as your only 2 white openings. Then the KID against everything as black or even the KID and Caro Kann. Just 2 for each, white and black isn't hard. Against the scandinavian I don't even watch theory, I just develop and thank them for the lead in development and always crush them. My best game against a scandinavian was forced checkmate on move 11

    What I have learned so far is it's a d4 opening and I still have my hands full with e4 openings. But I need to know it as blackso I play it QGD style rather than Slav style. Yep, it's a long game, usually even until move 10. Then the tactics really begin. And it's pretty nuts for both sides.

    More good stuff. Wouldja believe I've been playing KIA for decades but never considered moving the Queen to e1 to avoid that blasted Bishop pin from g4? Instead I'd play c3 then move Her Majesty Q-side and often as not out of play. Qe1 also makes sense 'cuz it allows a faster f4 with the Rook behind it instead of on e1. Wish I'd been a more attentive student of this game but of course it takes lotsa time and real-life issues interfere. Anyway thanks for another great viddy. Cheers and good luck!

      @@TheChessGiant I've looked at it and it's pretty insane! I've played it a few dozen times and it really can get very crazy and exciting by move 10! Sharp tactics. On both sides. Plus, I have watched plenty of your hippo videos and I can see the similarity between this and the hippo in that both sides don't try to launch an early attack... But it's a d4 opening and I'm pretty heavily invested in e4. But as always, when I learn a new opening, I learn it for both sides so I'm alot more prepared when I'm black. This might be a good stepping stone before trying the hippo all out. It may help with unraveling the mysteries of the hippo!

      @TheChessGiant  3 года назад +3

      Hey Alamgir, thank you for the kind words! Yes, it is the same! Black is down a tempo with the King's Indian Defense compared to the King's Indian Attack, but that's really all that changes. A very aggressive chess opening for black to say the least! If you want, we made a video that covers a game between Boris Gelfand and Hikaru Nakamura. It shows just how dangerous this opening can be.
