After my girlfriend died in a car accident, I held everything in from everybody. It was on my face, but I had no emotions. My cousin Invited me to a Foo Fighters concert a couple weeks later. I dragged myself out of the house. I was driving through Houston and this song came on the radio. I erupted in tears, uncontrollably. I had to pull over. I still remember how good it felt to finally cry.
Same happened to me mate, well not with this song but same situation. I'm honestly here on a boo hoo fest after having a big ugly cry earlier today over some shit I can't control. And I think that's really it as men if we can't be there and protect it eats us alive inside. I spent 20 years after I lost mine in a place where I had no control over anything and pretty much lost everything, even moved on now and married another lady who honestly deserves better than me. Nothing ever feels right anymore. But hey I'm still here just trying to help anyone else who will listen.
I saw Evanescence live in 2018 when they were on their Synthesis tour. They were backed by a live orchestra and they played this song. I had just lost my mom to cancer and this song reminded me of her. Before they began to play the song, Amy said she wanted to dedicate it to a friend of hers who had lost their mother to cancer. Needless to say, that performance devastated me. I was bawling like a baby.
I've seen Evanescence three times in the last few years and I can say that Amy Lee is amazing. Her voice is still so amazing. I think this song will always make me emotional.
As we get older, we learn to listen what's behind the vocals, especially pain... Our younger selves tend to attach ourselves to the songs, instead of listening to the artists pain behind the vocals. Amy Lee's voice is literally a voice of angel...
Her voice in this song is a beautiful, harmonious, hunting, sweet, sad, emotional and painful cry…I think is so rare to find this kind of artists that can connect us to this pain through singing! I always cry every time I hear this song! And I haven’t lost a loved one…This is a masterpiece! ❤️✨❤️✨❤️
If you love Amy, you have to, absolutely have to, check out Floor Jansen. Floor is currently the lead vocalist of the symphonic metal band, Nightwish. Most Americans that hear Floor instantly make the connection to Amy, but Floor's role in NW allows her to show more of her classical training than Amy does in a NuMetal band. Floor has the beauty and power of Amy, but ads greater range (highest to lowest note) and greater options (she sings many different styles) and even in many different languages including English, Spanish, German, Finnish, Danish, and even Latin. She sings opera, classical, show tunes, rock, metal, pop, and even 14th century Christian hymns, lol. Voice of an Angle! I put this song away 6 years ago and found the courage to listen with you, At that time "The pain was just to real" The entire album is a vocal show off! So good!
Amy is a master of dynamics, not just between phrases or verses, but also on individual notes and words. I think that this is one of the elements that make her voice so haunting. I don't know how many time that I have heard this song, but it still leaves me with a lump in my throat. Nice reaction! Thanks.
I am a 52 year old man and this song still makes me cry most of the time. It is so touching and beautiful. While I appreciate the live performance of this song the most, I adore this video. Notice that her feet never touch the ground and she is always in white. She sings about loss but she is singing the lyrics from the point of view of the man in the video that lost her, as she is now an angel/spirit. At least that is how I interpret it.
What a beautiful song, I will never forget the first time I heard it, I was in the hospital recovering from an accident caused by a drunk and I lost someone very important to me, I was lying in the hospital bed all day staring at the ceiling, as if my soul had gone somewhere else, my parents were there all the time and I didn't react to them, my friends visited me and I was the same it's as if the world had lost color and I couldn't hear anything they were telling me, I only thought about why it was me who had survived, but one day my best friend, the girlfriend of my friend who had died in the accident that I survived, lay down on my hospital bed, hugged me and played me this song... I have never cried so much as that day, since then every time I hear this song it reminds me of that day and I feel a shiver run through my body, how good it is and how heartbreaking it is, literally this song saved me from the abyss I had fallen into and I always give it my all. thanks to amy lee for this song
Amy's voice legitimately touches my soul. This song especially has actually helped me let go of alot, and still continues to. I'm now a married man with 3 kids in my 30's and all this time later, her performance still sends shivers down my spine and gives me goosebumps all over. Glad this video popped up for me. Thank you for this, and thank you Amy, for this incredible piece of music.
The entire Fallen album is an absolute goth-metal masterwork. When this came out there wasn't anything else like it in mainstream music. Yes there were some fantastic similar bands that predated it (Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, etc.) but, in the US at least, this was the breakthrough for that style of music. Definitely a top 5 all time album for me.
Wasn't expecting to cry at this, but apparently I needed this song tonight. Thanks for unpacking it, and for your wonderful reactions and explanations.
When i was in my early 20s my grandmother that raised me passed away, 10 some odd years later i bought this cd and when this song came on i instantly dropped to my knees and started crying, the memories of the woman who raised me came flooding back. No song makes me cry every time like this one.
It took me almost 20 years to understand the video. Amy killed herself and only her ghost wanders through the video. That's why her wrists are wraped and she's never touching the ground. Her husband/boyfriend runs around town after the funeral dealing with the pain. I always thought that the two of them had just broken up.
The lyrics of "My Immortal" were written by Ben Moody, based on the death of his beloved grandfather. It seems correct that the character Amy portrays in the music video is dead, and yes, that's the symbolism of her never touching the ground, though the manner of her death is not specified. To me, her attire and hair style and decoration are a striking visual stylistic choice, esp as the video is in black and white. The lyrics are supposed to be of the person mourning, so in this video, that's Ben, although of course, Amy is singing them.
@@detectivekornfed The wiki for the song doesn't mention anything about Ben's grandfather, and specifically states "The song's words were originally written by Moody from fiction and the music written by Lee on piano when they were 15, after which Lee added the bridge."
"Break In", it's a great track. What I like most about it is Amy sings under Lzzy in the first chorus, then a note above her in the last. Really shows her vocal prowess.
Omg I need to find this. Lzzy Hale is amazing. I got to see her live years ago in a tiny little intimate theater, and it was incredible. They filled the room, not just with the audience, but with their sound. And evanescence has held my heart since I was 14 and feeling broken. I didn’t know they did something together and now I have to find this.
The original LP version didn't have the full band section, it was just the piano and strings. So glad they released song and video with that amazing part added. It gave the song even more power. This IS definitely the version to hear. BTW, I will never get tired of listening to this masterpiece.
From the moment she says "I'm so tired of being here" I feel deep agony within myself. This song feels so relatable even though I haven't lost anyone recently and then it hit me. I've lost myself...
I've heard this song countless times over the past 2 decades..... and every time I still get goosebumps, chills, and tears in my eyes. It's a masterpiece. Great job breaking this down Bethany. 🙌🏻
This group … this song … definitely changed me. It was released when a friend was diagnosed with cancer. This became the tune in my head for the next 1.5years as he battled, and lost.
Amy is a great talent! I would love to hear your take on "My Tourniquet" at some point. Her voice can be so incredibly POWERFUL, but also so soft and enveloping. This one feels like a warm blanket to pull around you when you're lonely, missing someone, but then transitions into the chorus that gives such a sense of resolve, of "I will never stop loving you, but I will find a way to go on alone if I must." I just love this song so much!
I hadn’t heard this song and performance for a very long time. So beautiful! And Bethany, you described it perfectly - “so smooth and well connected”. I really appreciate hearing these songs again and being reminded of how great they are. Thank you!
I hadn't heard this song for quite a while either, and I'm with you that it's great to go back and listen to things you heard back in the day, but with a fresh set of ears, and with more experience. Amy's voice is just so fantastic, can be so delicate but with the ability to be powerful, just beautiful singing. Also, that video is so well produced and put together that the visual presentation is just gorgeous as well. Thank You for reviewing this.
Im so glad to see someone properly break down this song.. I listen to a decent range of music and for some reason from the first time I heard this song it caught me and from that moment it has been the one song that could have this much effect on me. The emotion with what i feel is one of the most unbelievable tones of a voice that ive ever heard.. I feel its the most beautiful song Ive heard and felt
I agree that Amy Lee adds depth and a calming action like being wrapped in the warmest of blankets. It's like a spiral feeling that wraps around the listener. Her voice is fabulous.
Wonderful review! Such a masterpiece of a song, torrents of emotion. Few artists have Amy Lee's almost unmatched ability to connect with the fan/listener, she is truly a gift. Please analyze more Evanescence!
This and other Evanescence songs were what I wanted to see you cover. I was kind of stunned you hadn't ever covered a song sun by Amy Lee. Beyond any doubt she is the best female vocalist I've ever seen live. She's incredible.
My experience wasn't that great because of sound issues, Amy was great, don't get me wrong, and even with the issue this song still hits, but Bring me to Life was the song that was really special. And it's not that it it's a better song, it's just they shot the video in Bucharest before people knew who they were and then over 10 years go by before they finally come back and play for us and she mentioned that it's wild it took so long and everyone cheered and the vibe was more Oh, we missed you the first time and for the years ever since but now you're back! Welcomeeee! A lil full circle there. I wanted to mention 2 other female singers that are mindblowingly good and I am pretty sure there's reactions to them too around here and those are Mariza, who when I saw her, walked off the stage and into the seated crowed was singing Gente de Mihna Terra while greeting people with a smile and they would stand up to greet her and to a little nod back and then sit down so there was this wave following her around. And you will find how much that songs means to Portuguese people and how generous to share it with us connect so we understand that she is talking about us too. What a gift! The second is Lara Fabian, I recommend Caruso because it's funny if you see the footage where she talks about the song too because she switches languages so efortlessly there a friend of mine was like, no way now she is just showing off. Also her live version of Je t"ame in Paris where there was sort of a moment like one i experienced above but it was the audience who was the gift giver and it's just a wild thing. I saw her twice, first time it blew my mind that she or any human can actually sound like that. Like she took one breath into the microphone and I was already crying. And the second time she was sick, she had a cold and a fever, but she had to reschedule the concert before and she didn't want to do it again so she sang despite lots of people saying that we'd get it, and the audience immediately saying yes, rest! But she was like Thank you, but no I'm here, let's see how it goes XD. And she sounded amazing. It was barely noticeble that she had a cold while singing .. including the very difficult songs and when she was speaking it was glaringly obvious. It was so odd seeing thousands of people being like.. Are you sure? It's ok, you don't have to.. Really, we don't mind, we want to rest and recover and she was like, eh I can do it tomorrow but today let me sing for you. You should check them out and see if you vibe with them. I'm curious what were the other songs you wanted to see covered here?
I lost my life partner to illness at the same time this song started getting airplay, it mirrored my aftermath, the lyrics got me then as time went on her voice amazed me. Beautiful score, beautiful lyrics and her voice, wow.
Love to see your wonderful reactions to these amazing artists. All l can say is that we were greatly blessed to have had the pleasure of enjoying such incredible beautiful music. The 80's and 90's were just absolutely filled with ARTISTICAL TALENT
I remember singing this song so many times when I was in high school. We had a little rock band in school and one of my friends and I just played this non stop and sang it all around town acoustic and full band so many times that I was the "evanescence girl" in a town that nobody knew in Mexico HAHA. I never became a professional singer but I keep on going through Evanescence songs because I have always absolutely loved Amy Lee's voice and seeing it being praised by a professional vocalist, it gives me so much pleasure that those who really know about this stuff can see the beauty of her voice and find no fault. She is truly one of the best singers of our time
Watching this makes me appreciate this song and their work even more when listening to this song that is so close to my heart. And now it's like its lyrics have a whole new meaning.
There's not another song that gives me more chills and brings more tears. Damn, Amy! I'm so glad I got to see them live in L.A.! She's just as good live! Incredible.
I sang this song a cappella in 7th grade for my middle school talent show. It was my first time singing solo in front of an audience. It was terrifying, yet a wonderful and memorable experience. After that I started voice lessons and eventually became a professional vocalist.
I want to see vocal coaches get emotional. I know we love hearing the vocal analysis but it's refreshing when we also get to see genuine emotion as well. Well done.
There's another song from this same album, "Hello" that also incorporates softer, melodic, and lower registers that culminate in a boisterous, triumphant finish, but without the addition of the full band. So when i first heard this song, I anticipated it would be a much of the same. But when the full band not only joins the song, but compliments it without drastically changing its sound, i was blown away. Never fails to make me emotional.
There's just something special about this song. Amy's voice is just so crisp and beautiful. I remember playing this on repeat back in the day! I would absolutely love to see a reaction to Ado! Her talent is just off the charts! Her range and control are ridiculous. I'd recommend the live version of either Show or Unravel!
Wonderful reaction Bethany! I felt exactly as you did back when the song was first released, so beautiful but it got overplayed on radio & MTV and I also started to tune it out. Thanks to the 20th anniversary remaster of their "Fallen" album, I'm back to not being able to avoid getting emotional when I listen to Amy sing this song. Her vocal talent is amazing!
In her circle no. But overall, she gets lost. She doesn't do the top 40 sound, so she never gets played on the radio. It's sad to have that voice and 99% of the people never get to hear it because of zero radio play.
I definitely agree. I think we are around the same age, and this and Bring Me To Life were played so much that hearing this now really lets you appreciate it more. Great Analysis. Oh, and please Love Hate Love - Live at the Moore by Alice and Chains. Promise it will change your life! Great video.
Love this song, Love this channel, Love you Miss Vocalyst, but I havent listened to this song since my wife passed away, and cannot do it now. it may have been 4 years ago, but it doesnt hurt any less now. Enjoy the song for me.
Only just recently tripped over evanescence.. Amy has such a powerful voice... her range and power are incredible... Some of her vocals are absolutely haunting.. when you add the fact she writes her own music and plays the keyboards it just speaks of her incredible talent.
Amy Lee is really power house vocalist. This My Immortal is my favorite song of all time. Thank you very much for featuring this on your channel. By the way Morissette Amon cover this live on her RUclips channel. Please react on that and I'm pretty sure you'll gonna love it too. Thanks and God Bless 💖🇵🇭
Wonderful analysis! It has been awhile since I really listened to this song. She has such a beautiful voice that really hits the emotion of the lyrics.
I loved and still love listening to Amy/Evanescence and its been decades I believe. I could hear all the details of her voice that she gives throughout all the songs, there is so much range between them all which is very nice to listen too. Can fit many moods and even some of the newest performances, she still sounds like this. Her doing the music video Speak to me is one of the newest ones she done and is spectacular on and even when she did a recorded Duet with Lzzy from Halestorm on Break In (recorded in a studio for the video and not one of their lives) she harmonizes with Lzzy so well that people are amazed that they sound so great together. If Amy's voice is like a chilling fog then Lzzy's voice is like a smoky fire. Speak to me is like 6 years ago and the Break In duet is like 3 years ago so fairly recent.

seen evanescence live twice and she is amazing so much emotion x
Amy is a great talent! I would love to hear your take on "My Tourniquet" at some point. Her voice can be so incredibly POWERFUL, but also so soft and enveloping. This one feels like a warm blanket to pull around you when you're lonely, missing someone, but then transitions into the chorus that gives such a sense of resolve, of "I will never stop loving you, but I will find a way to go on alone if I must." I just love this song so much!
Such an epic era for music. Things were getting blended together that nobody thought would work but it paved the way for so much of what we have now.
Such fond memories of this song. Amazing voice
Such a beautiful song, you can feel the emotion in her vocals, so powerful. I'm so glad you reviewed this!
this song is so so beautiful but I can’t get over how beautiful Amy is. truly captivating 😭
I enjoy seeing all the emotions in your face, you give the word’s meaning without looking at the video .
This song live when she sings it, just amazed me. I would love for you to do another of their songs: Hello.
I love your emotions, Bethany. I feel this song so much deeper in my soul watching your reaction... thank you for being you. ❤
I clearly remember calling the radio station immediately after hearing this the first time to ask what I had just heard! Luxurious and unforgettable!
Songs like this , CUT , right through your soul ! Her voice & those keys !
I seen her in concert a couple years ago and her voice is still amazing. I was just blown away.
She is drop dead gorgeous
What a fantastic react. Thanks for that. What a song!!!!
This is so precious song, that unmistakable awesome voice and my beautiful Barcelona! Everything is beyond beautiful here 😍💯👏
I want to see vocal coaches get emotional.
Stunning song,stunning singer
I was lucky enough to see Evanescence live in Helsinki many moons ago. They had My Immortal and Lithium on the set list. It was magical.
There aren't many out there who can sing so well as this lady,, for me, she is in my top 3 female singers.
Through all my life I have appreciated every song that has musically touched my soul..I have an amazing playlist with all of them on.
A beautiful accompanying piano set's the mood for this song
One of the most under-rated singers of my lifetime
In her circle no. But overall, she gets lost. She doesn't do the top 40 sound, so she never gets played on the radio. It's sad to have that voice and 99% of the people never get to hear it because of zero radio play.
@@larrylindgren9484 Bring me to life was everywhere back in the day, but I do agree, she's still generally underrated
All right my lady friend... You just found the epitome of tranquility ‼️ Most excellent reaction ‼️🔥🔥😎👍
this is my favorite video reaction u were so real, Amy´s voice is amazingly haunting ive never been so agree before!
As always your analysis and reaction was GREAT. Please keep em coming. 😜
I love this song! The vocals and her beauty match so well and I just want to hold her through her pain. I love your channel
I definitely agree. I think we are around the same age, and this and Bring Me To Life were played so much that hearing this now really lets you appreciate it more. Great Analysis. Oh, and please Love Hate Love - Live at the Moore by Alice and Chains. Promise it will change your life! Great video.
Such a beautiful song. I tear up every time I listen to it.
I saw her two months ago in Montreal .. and she sang this song… I will never forget it
The vocalist is stunningly beautiful... just as Amy Lee is!
Love this song, Love this channel, Love you Miss Vocalyst, but I havent listened to this song since my wife passed away, and cannot do it now. it may have been 4 years ago, but it doesnt hurt any less now.
Enjoy the song for me.
gorgeous video for a gorgeous song
Only just recently tripped over evanescence.. Amy has such a powerful voice... her range and power are incredible... Some of her vocals are absolutely haunting.. when you add the fact she writes her own music and plays the keyboards it just speaks of her incredible talent.
The Song is beautiful, I love Amy's Voice!!
When she sings softly like that it feels like my brain gets wrapped in velvet 🥰
Amy Lee is really power house vocalist. This My Immortal is my favorite song of all time. Thank you very much for featuring this on your channel. By the way Morissette Amon cover this live on her RUclips channel. Please react on that and I'm pretty sure you'll gonna love it too. Thanks and God Bless 💖🇵🇭
I really love this song and all of there music. I can really see that you do, too. Thank you for what you do.
Wonderful analysis! It has been awhile since I really listened to this song. She has such a beautiful voice that really hits the emotion of the lyrics.
Love this song and love you!!! Just thank you somuch. Music is my soul and you touch it all the time. Thank you so much.
Haunting moving and effortless ❤
Amy’s voice was there to help us at that time, to heal from what hurt us so much
She has amazing voice control. She gives me shivers. With a tube amp it's wonderful.
amy is the angel of angels
What an album this was.
Just one fantastic song after another.
I'd not heard anything like it.
Truly a timeless track. This has a very universal message, everyone can relate to the lyrics at one point in our life, also her voice is so haunting.
