EPISODE 1
In Episode 1 We first learn of some exciting new studio developments.
Barry then goes on to break down the Drums that were used for this track. He reveals the original crackly drum source and then goes on to explain how the drums were treated, stretched, chopped, groove extracted and finally layered.
And if you make it through this in depth episode and are ready for more Barry schooling, Part 2 will go on to introduce us to the music sample that will grace these rolling funky drums.

Im just getting hip to your work man, digging the tutorials. I know its a year late on this vid - but good on you for switching ABE. Been with it since V4 - I used PT ONLY for audio post (when I was in that industry) and sound design... but once I got out of film - got back into music (and for a time sound desgin for live theater) I full on used ABE (OK, occasionally I fire up Reason, I'm not sure why this is, but I find Reason great for slapping together a a quick sketch together without being tempted to experiment). I appreciate your dedication to the mighty Boom Bap... as it were. Nothing wrong with good synths - but when it comes to hiphop - I like my beats sampled thank you very much! I take my hardcore punk 80s west coast, and my hip hop 90s east coast... but Im also old.... so theres that....keep it up man.

Hello Barry, a very interesting video, thanks for producing. A quick question about the acoustics in your studio, may I ask what your speakers are standing on, is it either a stone slab or some kind of sound dampening material? And what's with the duvet quilt material on the wall?

I've got plenty of sample fodder, haven't got the golden ear! Tendency to get stuck in loop mode and not progress to actually arranging a track too. Your vids help release the creative blockage.
Thats ace! Yea, its not really rocket science. Just chop it up on a keyboard and have a jam. See what happens. To be honest I sometimes just hear a bit of potential in some music and have no idea what will happen when its chopped. Just go with the flow and see where the music takes you.

Hey Barry could you please do a video on scratching, like how to hook up your record player to ableton and scratch the ableton audio if that’s possible, cuz in the outro I think I hear you scratching your own voice if I’m not mistaken, I would love to know how to do that, cheers Barry
Hi Scotty, I think its prob best to leave scratching vids up to the experts. Im pretty basic when it comes to my cutting skills. BUT to answer your querie about cutting up my own voice, I DJ with serato so you can scratch and cut up any digital music files on it. There are hundreds of vids on serato out there in fact most DJs use it now.
