I have used the velcro to attach my floor twice on my old jon. Worked great with carpet, then hydroturf. Easy for cleaning and changing. Sides on boat do not come off easy, so those stayed. FYI.
Does adding flooring and foam help with keeping boat floating if more weight is added onto the boat as in let’s say an extra person who weighs 200+ pounds wants to ride on it
You are very fortunate, I used to go to a Home Depot in Austin TX to have plywood cut and they always missed the size + or - 1/2" I could do better with my eyes closed!
Quick question for you. I have a 1648 jon boat with a 40hp merc and about 6 different electricals (fish finder, trolling motor, lights etc). I have 2 dual purpose batteries and a deep cycle battery. Would I be able to run the 1 dual purpose battery for all my needs? Have a dual purpose battery as my cranking and use the deep cycle? Run 2 dual purpose? I wanna find a usage for these rather than drop more money on another battery and have 2 batteries for waste
Handy tip. You can buy the cheapest ply. You will just need to buy some PVA glue mix it with water and roll a couple off coats all over it. The PVA will become a sealant for the ply. My last punt i did this and that was 6yrs ago and the woods still as it was when installed. Ive also found in Australia aluminum right angle is very very expensive so i substitute it with galvanised 40x40 right angle and painted it with rustolium paint it has withheld the elements really well and is alof cheaper. For instances aluminium 3mt lengths are 60$ compared to 10$ for the galvanised lengths. Just use stainless sleel pop rivets. Yes the galvanised steel is a little heavier but nothing extreme was around a kilo extra weight in the end.. small little tips ive found over the years
is the middle of the plywood weaker in the middle from it not being absolutely flat on the boat bottom. i didn’t know if the hole saw cuts was a little deeper would it be better ? i’m trying to do the same thing as you to my 14ft jon boat
The foam underneath supports any flex, it also depends on the thickness of the plywood. Overall, it's really sturdy to walk on. There ways to firm it up even further if you wanted to by running aluminum cross braces but for a simple setup the foam under the plywood is more than enough support.
You would have to measure the area on your boat you want it to fit but you should only need about 2-3 cuts. One to cut down the width of the board, then however many vertical cuts to size each piece.
My boat is a semi V The front ribs do not go perpendicular to the sides. They run along the sides from front to back. Should I just put plywood across them? Inn the middle with a straight edge there would be a 4 inch gap from top of rib to bottom of the v. Is that too much to foam in
That should be fine as long as there isn't a gap between the floor and the foam. You might need a couple layers or possible two different size foamboards to get it right.
Foam in a boat is just a waste of money. All you need is a good billige pump. Enjoy your videos, thanks. I rebuilt a 37 year old Monark boat last year using some of your ideas.

Yeah they have been great with my cuts, I try to have everything ready for them as far as sizing and keep it as quick and easy as possible.

How do you keep the foam from squeeking down against the aluminum & up against the plywood ?
I want to know if that foam squeaks when on the water?

I put that kind in my 2001 bass tracker 165…. Took out all that old waterlogged foam and replaced it with that kind
Nice, a lot easier to work with than pour foam in a lot of ways.
@@mvboutdoors definitely! I wasn’t going back to that
I put the foam panels on the floor and it stopped the water from flowing easily from front to back
If there are no drain channels under the foam it can do that. You can add some spacers under the foam to help with waterflow.
cut up pool noodles on the sides stops it from getting scuffed up
what cuts should i be asking for the plywood?

@@mvboutdoors if you have 1 inch ribs on the floor and use 1 inch foam, would you need to add more foam due to the foam compressing?
Where can I get that pink foam thing and what is it called?
You can find it at home Depot, Lowe's etc. It's called insulation board.
How do u know we're to drill with hole saw for ribs
I marked the spots with the wood in the boat prior to cutting
Best thing I've found currently building a 3.8 stacer v nose boat build cardboard is your best friend for templates
what kind of foam do you use for under the existing seats
I am likely going to stack foamboard under the seats, I dont want to use pour foam for something like this.
Like what you are doing, I have same boat, need help
It's been a great boat to work on so far, should have an update video on it this week finishing setting up the front deck.
What kind of paint did you use on the inside of you boat.

Awesome, glad to help!
Flotation foam is actually required in boats under 20’ per USCG
Sorry, bilge pumps don't always work, if your battery shorts out due to water you will sink when your bilge pumps fail.
