Useful accessories I can see , Good heater , Sun visor , Fog lights , Slip on seat covers for daily drivers , rear reflectors , radios , exhausts that sound good , fire extinguishers , curb feelers , after market Sun roofs , Two tone paint , horns , and many others ! Probably not a good idea to modify a vehicle in a way that would hurt its value but I wouldn't throw a bunch of stuff on to impress the crowd ! My first Beetle in 1966 was a '54 Beetle that my father gave me after he was done commuting with it 120 miles a day! Anyway my Beetles are going to always be drivers and Fun cars to go anywhere !
I’m surprised you didn’t mention one accessory that’s actually practical and that’s the stainless steel window shade that fits into the top of the side crank up windows. It keeps more rain from coming in and shades more from the sun. It’s an original Volkswagen accessory.
Great Update Chris. On the back of your vid on top colours the top 10 theme is a great series. I saw a dash lid pull on one Beetle. I am still selling these now. Happy to supply you again when you are ready Chris. Cheers, Carl
When I was growing up my dad always had white walled tires on his Beetles. When he washed the cars my job was to clean the white walls with soap and a toothbrush.
The little chrome wire basket can be held to the carpet with strips of velcro. Velcro in rolls like telco people use. Cut to length. Not the sticky velcro. And the velcro comes in all colors. I've had a styrofoam cup in that basket for a decade. I put all my nuts, bolts, and screws in that cup when I'm working on the inside of the car so I don't lose them. That wire basket is quite handy.
So it's TRUE! There WAS an accessory coffee pot!!! I kept seeing people post pictures and whatnot, and I thought yeah, whatever. But it's true! I must have one now!
Love the video! Wanted to thank you again for the great phone call the other day, I've got a lot of the things put together that we talked about!! - Lexi
For those astounded by the coffee machine, one could also get an under dashboard record player for cars in the late 1950s. I know Philips used to make one.
..also, the Letter D on the white oval plaque mounted to rear bumber is cool addition. Also, regarding whitewalls, i use the thinner white wall, for my 64 bug,..actaully they r port-a-walls,..and they work perfectly fine. I think that pre-64 the fatter whitewall is cool, and post-64 the thinner whitewall looks period correct (jus my opinion)
You talked about rear pop out widows. Have you made a video about how to install one? If you haven't can you make one? And as always thanks for sharing your videos. Y'all are the best.
Loving your video output lately (not that it’s ever bad). I just got the budget pop out windows. Is a bit of a bummer about the chrome trim not coming together perfectly, I may try cutting and glueing some old chrome over it to look like a clip - but it saved me probably $800+ here in Australia so you get what you pay for. Speaking of, I’m going to be getting the Australian style flash trim which will have a white two tone for my blue bug. Absolutely love the look of them, looks so sleek and adds some unique character. I’m also going to get some Venetian blinds for the rear window. Considering a roof rack and/or an exterior windscreen visor but haven’t decided yet. Have to get the car painted and put back together first.
I like a lot of the accessories but my favorite are the functional ones. Hazet spare tire tool kit, top end oiler, fog lights, Empi bumper bars, Eberspacher gas heater, clock, roof rack, OG popouts, bamboo tray, gas gauge in an early car, inner door scuff guards, radio, ragtop, mud flaps, hood and decklid locks, seat belts, glove box and door pulls. Wait….did I just describe my car? Yes. I did. 😊
I had one Bug accessory that was a vent system that attached from the front fender grills, then it came into the cabin for fresh air. It seems that one thing you offer is black fender moldings as an option. I see it on other beetles as well. The black fender molding is not correct for the period as they were body color, unless it was a convertible, then it became standard in the late 70s. But it does look nice.
I like your content Chris, good stuff. I have a question regarding antenna mounting. It was a dealer thing and they are all different. Mine is angled and on passenger side... most are drivers side I think. I have also seen mounting templates on the Samba that showed a straight mounting on drivers side. I don't know what to do with mine. That might make an interesting topic.
Chris, do you know where I can get an original, or at least original looking, ashtray for my early 71 super bug? A previous owner replaced it with a cheap cupholder and I haven't been able to find one. They are always missing from junkyard beetles.
@@DarkElfDiva Yeah you might have to source a good used on on thesamba.com or something. And yes the rear passenger door panel usually gets an ashtray.
@@classicvwbugs Would any correct year range ashtray work, or do I need one specific for a super bug? I know the super used a lot of the same parts as the normal beetle.
I designed my own wooden cup holder rack that holds multiple travel cups that sits on the floor, in front of the passenger seat. Two years now and have yet to see it tip over 👍.
I have the wire basket cup holder. I knock it over every time I drive the bug. The vinyl covers on the feet are worn away. Is it perhaps that my shift lock pushes it too far forward?
Chris does anyone ever ask you to install a gasoline heater in a vw? I have one for a type 2, 2 for beetle. Plus the original operating, install manual. Neighbor moved to west coast and wanted to know if I wanted free vw stuff. 2 pick up truck loads I'm still looking thru all this old original vw junk as he called it. 😁
Where do you get the right side door mirror? I put one on my ‘64, but it is useless. The arm is so short that the driver can’t see anything. Yours looks like it has a longer arm. Without the mirror, changing lanes to the right is a gamble.
You forgot the most important accessory in New England and parts north.. the Stewart Warner Southwind gasoline heater.. I have 1 of each, Beetle, Ghia, Bus :)
Thanks. The american beetles are looking much more pricy and nicer than the beetles you can purchase here in Germany. But sometimes you can catch for example a 65 beetle in original conditions with around 40000 miles only for 30 000.- $ or so. @@classicvwbugs
When you showed that coffee maker all I could think was… “Play the tape machine Make the toast and tea When I'm mobile Well, I can lay in bed With only highway ahead When I'm mobile” - The Who, Going Mobile.
Or go with a Herbie paint job. Herbie never had white wall tires. Herbie did have Goodyear GT radial tires in Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo and Herbie Goes Bananas.
Sorry Chris I think wide white walls on a late model car look truly awful. On an early model car, sure, but on a late 60s on up, I prefer the correct thin white wall. Autobahn Tires offer both version in a bias look radial which are very nice. I also know the headlight eyelids are popular but again, think they look terrible. Earlier steering wheels be in stock or banjo look out of place on a later car also, imo. Consider a steering wheel from the Formula Vee line of accessories that vw offered in the 70s for a later car as they look much more at home.
Interested in gravel guards but concerned about drilling into my nice paint job on the taller rear guards. Wondering if there have been issues with water getting behind them, causing rust? Either type of gravel guards.

Ah very good, I missed that one.
Watching this Video now. I think I'm going to purchase the Beauty Rings for my Sea Blue 66. Which is a Sharp Color. Love the Blue.
going to get the beauty ring, mud flaps and the wicker thing. for sure. Already have the white walls
My favorite is the rear mounted ski rack. I like the look of a pair of skis shooting up over the top of the car from the rear bumper.

Lady bug floor mats 👌
I’d love to know where to get a set of those “Cross Hatched” trim rings! Talk about gorgeous!

Top 3 for me
1. Pop-outs
2. Roof rack
3. Foglights
What about the Abarth exhaust? You love those!😉👍
is there a way to modify a 1990s bug and retrofit it with the old metal dash?
for standard beetle, yes.
@ what is the process or where can I find that info?

I found solid billet aluminum running boards for my 66 Bug. Goes great with chrome wheels.
Great video, thanks. I really like the olive green color of the car. Can I know the exact color?
What time stamp?

It just a great description and history.

Great
Nice
Are the Bed Seats still available? How can I modify mine to do that? I would like to be able to sleep in my Bug at various times of the year.
Grsat Video
And the BEST accessory is a CB Radio lingo seat cover 😂😂😂
Center mount Telefukin antenna .. split years .

Yes I have seen both, it really depended on the dealer, left right, angled, straight, etc.
Mr Vallone, you forgot the rear window Venetian blind , that’s a must have……………
Do you notice a difference in appearance with plastic trim rings vs stainless steel? Does ABS look maybe cheaper
They don't actually. They look good.
Chris, do you know where I can get an original, or at least original looking, ashtray for my early 71 super bug? A previous owner replaced it with a cheap cupholder and I haven't been able to find one. They are always missing from junkyard beetles.
for the dash or the rear door panel?

How do you stop the basket drink holder from falling off while driving? Is there hooks or snaps?
the legs on it sit tight up against the carpet.
I have the wire basket cup holder. I knock it over every time I drive the bug. The vinyl covers on the feet are worn away. Is it perhaps that my shift lock pushes it too far forward?
Original hazet ? Shifter lock
AHH good one.

@@classicvwbugs Many thanks. If I find one, I’ll name it my “Vallone Mirror”!
@@donelmore2540 haha cool

Ah yep!
Are you going to make the truffin this year?
Hi i need white wall in 16 inch size available????
Can I get starter for volks wagen beetle 1965 model.
Are the whitewalls painted or stuck on? Really hard to find decent ones in the UK
Stuck on
I live in the UK and you are definitely right they are hard to find
Is the trim-ring an american invention or was it common in Germany then too?
On the wheel?
Yes on the wheel.@@classicvwbugs

All good, it's preference, the wide white sell like crazy with our bugs I will say.
The coffee maker was only produced in 1959

I dont like the gravel guards
Luggage rack
Addicted to Jewelry ?
Don't like the look of these new gravel guards makes it look cheap.
The original smaller stainless gravel guards on rear look ok .
Hey Chris, I love your RUclips channel but that shelf does not work for somebody. That’s over 6 foot tall cause your legs just hit it

water could get back there yeah.
