I have 1 full day in Wanaka and was wondering what I could do for the day, now I know even though I can't decide, thank you!!

Yes, it’s difficult as so much to do! If you into serious hiking then head into the Matukituki Valley. If you are into a soft-adventure cruise & walk tour then Mou Waho Island trip. If you want to try a scenic jet boat ride then trip the Wanaka River Journey trip. They also have kayak-style paddling excursions. Naturally I understand you are heading there during our NZ summer period. Enjoy!

Dear Michael-- thank you for your videos! I notice that the last 10 kms into the Matukituki Valley are on an unpaved road (the Wanaka Mt Aspiring Road), said by some folks to be very rough going.
I'll only have a compact rental car so I assume this is off limits for me?
Darn! I was hoping to visit Wishbone Falls and hike at least the first 2.7 miles of the ascending Rob Roy Glacier Track, but it seems I'll have to settle for only doing the hikes in the Diamond Lake Conservation Area.
Question: on my 2nd day in Wanaka i want to drive up Hwy 6 to at least the Roaring Billy Falls area, if not all the way to the Haast coastal area. Do you have any comments or suggestions about that? Thank you in advance!-- and again thank you for a great video series.

Hi Tim! Yes, the last bit of the road into the West Matukituki has some creek fords to cross. You may want to check out transfer options from Wanaka or join a day trip with Eco Wanaka. Depending on your style of travelling you may check with fellow travellers to get a lift.
For the road towards Haast there are really lots of options. All depending on weather, fitness level and time you have available. The Roaring Falls area is a short walk. Personally I like the Siberia Valley trip you can get from Makarora. If you have more time the Young-Wilkins-Siberia loop. Again, this very much depends on your time and fitness level. Hope this helps for you having a wonderful time. Enjoy!

Great video. Have added Rob Roy track to itinerary for next year. Hopefully my 12 year old can make it.
