    Great review! Really wanted the multi, but went with the PMK nomatic 35 instead. That could have def been reviewed here if it was out at the time, side note. A lot of these bags under full load do not carry right, the straps and especially where they sit on your back, the length and shape of your back determine that. So a longer bag that can cover your full spine will feel soooo much more supportive and actually many pounds lighter even when it isn’t. I’m 6’3 and hate big bags but can’t deny how much more comfortable they are it’s ridiculous. I had the WANDRD, absolutely loved the styling, fit an insane amount of gear although hated the roll top design, but when it was under weight it was sooo uncomfortable compared to the larger nomatic.

    I tell everyone about the Incase DSLR Pro backpack! Hands down the best, most versatile and comfortable design I’ve ever owned. Can fit my Canon Dslr, 4-6 lenses, 15” MBP and and a tripod through the loops. Best investment.

    A fine review. I like the look of the Incase, and I like the way the shoulder straps attach to the body of the bag without stressing the zipper of the large rear flap.

    That's a HUGE table.
    Good job tossing Boundary Prima system out so quickly. It's truly awful as a camera backpack.
    I didn't think PD everyday backpack is as bad as you mentioned. I think they tried to do a smart thing to have it accessible from both sides and it kinda works sometimes. But the laptop compartment is hard to access for sure. I grow to hate all backpacks that don't have clamshell openings.
    In the end, I gave up looking for a camera backpack. I think it's more worthy looking for a great backpack and use inserts when carrying cameras.

      Hate to say I fully agree how fast the Boundary bag was removed. Really wanted to love the bag overall myself but too bad I guess. The detachable verge bag however I absolutely love since the convertible waist strap to shoulder strap is great and since the bag is only really for a body and two lenses at most works really well in weight and strap comfort. Shame that it’d be ridiculous to sell everything but the verge case though.

    Great video Desy, love this year’s update. I already have 9, maybe 10 camera bags - everything from Lowepro to Ona. It’s probably taken 8 previous purchases to finally work out what I truly need but as you say, there’s no perfect bag. Comfortingly, my short list had the Incase and the Protactic - both of which you seem quite partial to it seems. I’m curious to see some reviews of Lowepro‘s new FreeLine bag which looks like to meld the form factor of the Fastpack with the reworked side access/shelf system of the Peak Design. All things being well, I’ll just need to be ready to slip another bag purchase in without my wife noticing. Great work and production again Desy! 🙌🏼

    This helped me in choosing the Protactic 450 for travel (went on a 1 month trip to Europe). What i needed was to bring the most equipment possible since i am a hybrid shooter (plus i also brought a medium format film camera) and this bag did the trick. I use the Wandrd Prvke 21L as my every day camera bag but i'm not a DSLR user (Fujifilm) so i never really walk around with much equipment (Xpro2 along with a Leica M6). Thanks for the video.

    Great video - I bought my LowePro Pro Tactic after seeing your older comparison - very much liked the update. ... and I have still the first Lowepro 250 Fastback I bought at a closing down sale for $50 - they last a ton. I also use a a Flipback 400 for Travel/Transport - It's the basic back-zip backpack they have and its quite spacious

      I got a LoewePro ProTactic 450 and i got a terrible feeling that it actually is a Chinese knock-off. The quality is nothing like the older LoewePro I had.
      I have outed it only a couple of times and the zippers are giving trouble. The pockets are too slim to actually store anything other than your credit card.
      I got two PeakDesign bags and I feel my thinking goes along the same lines as the guys who designed them.
      ThinkTank Streetwalker is under consideration also but you need to lay it down on the ground to get your stuff out.
      Peak Design lets you just flip it on the side for access.

    Great video. Good to know I made the right choice with the Wandrd Prvke (21 in my case). It was between that and the Protactic 350, but the flexibility of the Prvke sold me on it. Bummer to hear the Boundary bag is really that terrible. I was kind of afraid I was missing out on it having already bought the Wandrd, guess it was a blessing in disguise

    Wandrd gets the #1 spot for me. I use it both for travel and everyday and I love how I can easily fit my camera inside as well as my everyday essentials. I also have the peak design but I agree with what you said; it just isn't that functional as an everyday bag. The only time I would prefer the peak design over the wandrd is when I would go on trips that require me to bring more camera gear and my drone. Other than that, the wandrd prvke is just a great well rounded bag.

    • @DesmondCheng
      @DesmondCheng  6 лет назад +1

      love the wandrd! just wish they can improve the camera insert just a smidge.... if they made a version 2, that had the camera compartment more like the lowepro fastpack, that would be amazing! the fastpack is just so easy to unzip and open. oh well, fingers crossed!

    Hi Dessy, thanks for the great review. I have used most of the bags you have there. What you should really check out, is the Mindshift Backlight 26L (sister comapny to Thinktank). It is for me, by far the best bag for day carry and travel. If you have a look at all the reviews online, you will find most Pro's saying that it is closest to the perfect bag. I'm looking for a middle ground between an everyday backpack, Carry On, light travel backpack where I can toss clothes in but still remaining to bring my gears ( dual mirrorless + primes and others accessories like flashes & tripod). Looking for a durable and comfortable bag but remaining discrete. Would like to get your thoughts on this one. Cheers

    Great videos on the Mindshift Backlight and Tubu 6070 backpacks. I own two ThinkTank bags (Airport Security V2 and Manager 40) so can only imagine that the Mindshift is very similar in quality with respect to the side panels and dividers. Just wondering what your thoughts are with respect to quality and durability of the Tubu backpack 6070 vs the Mindshift, especially the exterior shell and dividers. My Airport Security has a very stiff, well padded exterior shell which must incorporate a plastic layer in addition to the foam. Do the exterior shells of these backpacks also incorporate a stiffener of some sort or are they just more or less stiffer foam? The Mindshift prices near $250 and the Tubu is $80. Just wondering what I would be missing in the Tubu bag compared to the Mindshift? Thanks!

    Hi Desy. What is your opinion about NYA EVO FJORD 36? I am between this backpack and PRVK 31. Both are at the same price. I like both in terms of design. I like the side zip for the camera in PRVK 31 but I prefer the Cube box from NYA (the velcro diverters seem to be safer) . I own a D750 with 24-120 only and the main use will be for travelling and for everyday use (work).

  • @skakdosmer
    @skakdosmer 6 лет назад

    Funny how people have different tastes: The “trendy” ones looked the worst to me. :-)
    I actually bought the Lowepro Protactic 450 AW about 3 years ago. But I returned it the next day, because I didn't like it one bit. The quick access points are great, but if you want to change lenses, there's nothing quick about it. You can't really spin it around to your front like a flipside bag, so you'll have to get it off your back and lay it down. And if you've attached some external pouches and stuff, you might have to take those off first. And in spite of the fact that it was a lot larger than my old Lowepro Nova 5 shoulder bag, it wouldn't really hold any more of my gear. And still it felt really heavy and uncomfortable on my back. So instead I got a Lowepro Flipside 500 AW which is not only much cheaper, but also much better for my needs.

    • @DesmondCheng

Now I am 6'6" so I'm a big guy so maybe it's not so high for someone else. Bottom line it just doesn't feel comfortable and considering the price it should have been heads and tails above all others.

    Incase DSLR Pro backpack is the best designed!!! Wish they make exactly same design with little deeper section for camera to hold filters, and higher quality materials and zippers. Been using for almost a year now. Recently, I got Shimoda 40L and I hate it. Just too overly designed and flaps all over, zippers everywhere. I wish I didn't throw the packing material and labels before I tried it. Only other backpack that is better built and almost as well designed is MindShift Gear Backlight 26L Backpack.

    I was eying the peak as a traveling backpack BUT it is way to heavy. these days more often than not there is no luggage included in your plane tickets, and if you are like me, you can make it work (you cry about the lenses you have to leave at home). what is a total no go is a backpack that weighs in at 2.04 kg (4.5 lbs.) 30L and 1.81 kg (4lbs) 20L. depending on your airline, you are looking at a 7kg - 10kg carry on allowance. if you can't bring it, there is no use worrying about functionality, let alone style.

    Hey brotha! Your reviews have really been helping me refine my choices. I’m prettty vain LOL, so aesthetics do mean a lot to me. Have you ever looked in to burton bags? They don’t have a lot of features but I like the way they look, particularly the “focus” 30L model. Any input you have would mean the world. Thanks in advance!

    The Langly one seems interesting. But then I looked up the newer Alpha Globetrotter and it's over a quarter of a thousand Dollars... Guess where my money is not going... -_- That kind of pricing is because they're like "designer" companies, isn't it? - If it said "Hama" on the label, it would have cost less than half of the 269 Dollars.
    I'm not looking to be fashionable, but functional. But for the life of me I can't find the type of bag that allows me to grab things from compartments while the camera is ON my back (or at least most of the time), which is why the Langly caught my eye.
    Then again, the Pro Tactic (which could be my kind of thing) is similar money, but looks like a turtle-shell... I guess the money went into materials and such.
    (I'm complaining, but I appreciate the extensive video. - I just can't find what I need. XD)

    Owned a Peak Design Backpack.
    1. Bag itself is heavy.
    2. Divider is a mess and flimsy.

      no unfortunately i didnt! but if its like the peak design, then... i wouldnt buy it... I NEED backzip or at the very least full front loading so I can get everything all at once.

      Send me the mindshift and I'll totally do a review!
      And yeah sorry.. just being totally honest! I have a bunch of your bags (speed racer, shape shifter, wired up 10, streetwalker harddrive), and I think they are the best made bags out of all of the brands. In fact, I think that the shape shifter v1 has THE BEST STRAPS out of any backpack I have ever tried. But they all have that 'camera bag' look to it. If you made the streetwalker hard drive backzip instead of front loading, with quick access (like the lowepro pro tactic), and made it look a bit more trendy (like the wandrd or langly), then you would have almost THE perfect bag! (hint hint!!)
      Just my opinion though! But yeah... send me the Mindshift =))))

    Some great points - and it's true, there's no bag that does it all. I also agree that Peak Design bags are horrible to use - and *ugly*!

    • @drive7
      @drive7 6 лет назад

      One thing I'd say about the Protactic 450 AW is that, despite being the best designed bag here, it's HEAVY. And by heavy I mean 2 or 3 pounds heavier than most of the other bags here. For me, sadly, that's a dealbreaker. For long hikes this thing is absolutely out of the question.
