Would definitely recommend taking the foam back to have the covering added, you should ask him if he could add an 1-2” memory foam top glued to the high density foam or he could wrap some thick wadding around the foam under the cover. It would be worth doing if he can
I worked on the electricity sub station at St Johns Wood back in 2005 and often took our lunchbreak at the side of the canal. Chatting to the residents at the moorings you visited is where I got my interest of narrowboats from.
Tip for anyone wanting to get foam cut like this: Make a template of your space, curves and all, with pieces of rosin paper cut into the exact shape and taped together. (The stuff that goes underneath wood floors and gets used to protect stairs during construction.) You can then roll that up and take it to the upholstery shop for an exact fit.
Lol I thought that about Crt-, that the ones who check boats walk or cycled huge miles until I saw a guy putting his bike in a Crt- van ... what a cushy job they have !! Loved the foam cutting 😏
This was all very interesting. Especially how CRT operates. I am happy you got to tell him about the woman who is such a stinker by that lock from hell. Take care, sweet James.
I know of a group of residents on a newly built housing estate try to close down an adjacent 50 year old steam heritage railway due to the smoke and steam blowing in their direction! They didn't mind the mainline railway that ran between them though. They needed that for their commutes to London. When you challenged them on the stupidity and entitlement, they just didn't get it. Some admitted they ultimately wanted it closed to increase the value of their homes and didn't give a shit about it preserving industrial heritage and it being a popular tourist attraction. Some people just beggars belief!
The four inch foam should last a long time if it's protected. I've had mine on over 15 years and it's still comfortable. Hope you can find some uses for the extra foam.
Oh my days! Where is this magical foam mattress shop? I have just finished the bed for my campervan and I’m looking for a foam mattress shop. Anyone know where he is? Thanks guys and girls
Hello mate This is the link - based in Watford They are great - old school - will do anything for you and they do loads of campers www.foamsales.co.uk Good luck
Definitely recommend getting the cover on the foam. Makes changing the sheets so much easier and helps keep the shape of the foam. Looking forward to the episode "The One Where James Puts His Curtains Up" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Take care.
Nice Vlog James. The CRT information was quite interesting, as was seeing the bit where the permanent moorings are. Like the new foam. I am sure the children will love it too. Looking forward to your cruise. Thank you for sharing. 🙏😊 Kathy
Newspaper template? Did you mention how much more they charge for adding fabric covers? Permanent or with a zipper for removal for washing etc? But a single pepper pig sheet with a protective layer of something underneath, and all tucked in would be really nice and much easier for cleaning on that bow section piece.
The boat is becoming more homely James. Just need the seating covered where you guys eat and a few cushions oh and curtains then your boat will be your castle so to speak ! Been really nice seeing more vlogs from you, you’ve spoilt us. Will you be filming the cruising with the kids ? Hope the weather stays good for you ! Will mum number two becoming along? ( joke! ) see you on the next vlog :)
Great video. I loved the conversation with the CRT guy. Can’t believe someone would buy a house on a body of water and then complain about it. Actually I would, what a sad person. The new foam bedding looks good and appears to be a great improvement. I just wonder, what type of interest woman or women will be drawn into Sloe Patrols irresistible magnetic pull in St. John’s Wood… 😉. On a more practical matter, how are you fixed for guitar strings? Need some? Let me know what gauge(s) you and your Dad use, I have a plethora of strings to share. Take care
Can I suggest you pop into Ikea and buy a mattress protector for the new foam. Especially with the kids using the beds. Spillages and accidents will happen.
That's exactly what I thought when the guy started cutting the 4" foam at the suppliers .. ' is that off cut big enough for the pull out part of the bed ' 🤔
At 18:08; It sounds like making the yearly, CRT required, twenty mile cruising range shouldn't be to difficult? ;-) Do gate keepers/volunteers, other boaters, public report boat movements to the CRT? How often does the CRT person check boat numbers (17km route)?
“ odd shapes in awkward spaces “ Top tip = “ticking stick “ or “Shipwrights rule” it’s an old problem that some clever person sorted out an age ago. 5 mins on here and you’ll be amazed you didn’t think of it.

Love it and will use that in the future.

Well done James
I met that crt guy last week, what a helpful decent bloke he is..

Interesting chat with the CRT guy

Who's the handsome bloke cutting the foam🤣🤣🤣

You've got that nice new foam and you're rolling all over it with your shoes on.
Very interesting vlog. Would love to do London canals. Bet it’s an awesome atmosphere. Best wishes x
Hi James and I would certainly fit sone protection on the foam as we had in our caravan. Enjoy Keith.

Hi James. Great Vlog. Very interesting listening to the CRT man. Glad your foam renewal worked well. Have a great week. Take care.
Very interesting stuff about the CRT logging malarky. Top "Foam Fettling" Young James. Miss Ya Too :-)

Very nice!
Have you thought about putting a storage cabinet in the “V” of bow?
I’m so happy you got new foam!!!!
Hi James, good video. Glad to see some progress being made on the boat. 👍
Brilliant job James👌👍😃

Ah were in the same boat!! Thanks pal
Big cousins for the day bed on the 2”foam for the kids. 👍🏼
Hi James Iearnt a lot watching your video as I am doing a sailaway up so.keep up the good work.mate

if you or the kids find the foam too firm, you can always put a duvet on top and sleep on top of that
That was a good episode ,covered loads of stuff!
At least the foam matches your colour scheme now, as the foam ages it losses it's firmness James.
Can you make the offcuts into cushions/bung-covers? (Or offer them to someone else who could use them?)

Futon mattress. Easy to cut and fit.
Good to see how the keep track of all the boats on the canal. Come on, tell us the truth, that's your Peppa Pig you sleep with and not the kids.🤣
if you wanted you could attach half round to the tops of those boards, wouldn't have to profile them down and might perhaps look more finished, cheers
Do you still use the bed extension? Do you have an extra foam strip for that?
That's exactly what I thought when the guy started cutting the 4" foam at the suppliers .. ' is that off cut big enough for the pull out part of the bed ' 🤔
Loved the video James very clever fitting mattresses. A ll looking good for cruise. How’s your arm/shoulder? Have great week.

At least we can see how backwards and forwards merchants get away with ( non) continuous cruising😉
Where does the 20 mile figure come from? I have read thr rules and can't find a mileage amount anywhere. Not to say I missed it through.....
The CRT state on the continuous cruising rules that 20miles on bona Fide cruising per year - I saw it pretty much everywhere
is it 20 miles for the year or 20 miles every 2 weeks?
Hi James, what the foam guys channel name please ?
Great upgrade for the 🛌🛌🛌🛌🛌 :)
there was a CRT licensing ranger that was murdered recently , it doesnt seem to be the best job but it does need to be done
It's a shame that someone can't catch the woman who drains the lock in the act, perhaps with a camera with a long lens.
It's like trying to push spaghetti
