I'm glad to see young people picking up on these almost forgotten craftsman work.
Thanks so much!
Had no idea how much I would miss foiling but I do. I enjoyed watching you work because you can really see your investment in the project and seeing that the client gets something they will be really happy with.
Thanks so much! I'm glad it came through.
Awesome music ..... Excellent work, I’ve been in the industry 40 years and am impressed with the quality of your work and understanding of the machinery 👍
The video quality and composition is fantastic, a true pleasure to watch
Dude you're too cool, never thought I would watch so many videos about something like this. But the passion you have for it is pretty magnetic! Plus you edit you're videos in interesting ways and the music is GREAT!
Marinel Diaz then so much! Stick around; the next couple weeks should be really exciting!
Thanks for sharing the video! Loved watching and learning about the process.
I'm currently working on the wording and layout for my 5x7 black invitations while trying to decide on the right cardstock paper and gold letterpress or gold foil. Thanks for helping me decide... I'm definitely going with the gold foil (just love how it pops). Now I just need to figure out the paper and find a local print shop that doesn't cost an arm & leg to print for me, lol. Oh, I'm also using a gold wax seal for my black and gold trim envelopes.
I love it!
Most printers I know enjoy Classic Crest for foil projects, especially when the paper needs to be black. That's what Jessica's cards were printed on.
@@afinepress Thanks so much for responding so quick and for the tip! Yessss, I'm gonna look into that paper and order it right away. I'm so excited 😁 can't wait to see & feel the finished product
Hey I am entrusted to make some wedding invitations and just want to say thank you for this video! I wasn't sure what Gold foil was but this has helped clear it up a lot more :)
I have used gold metallic ink in the past for many years with letterpress on coated stock very successfully but frequently used a yellowish base on uncoated stock this makes a huge difference. Also tried offset but the result was very bland.
Another great video. Insane difference between the ink and the foil, even on camera you can tell the two aren't even in the same league. I really love the direction this channel is heading, keep it up!
Thanks! There's definitely a place for the letterpress, but you've got to know you want it.
Trying to find my feet on the channel. It's starting to feel good.
I enjoyed your enthusiasm.
Your stuff is AMAZING! When I get married I will be using you to print our announcements. I really love the Velvet.
😂😂
@@daniel-hv4qy ?
Let's do it!
I've just found your channel and have binged half a dozen videos already. Love your work, and appreciate your vision as an artist with your medium of choice. I would love to know what you might charge, full retail, on your jobs.
You are awesome and now I want business cards 🤣
I have a fear that I cut my hand off with these machines by mistake.
Same!
that's a right snapback to have!
I have no doubt that foil pops better than ink, but if you had done a double-hit with metallic gold ink, it would have done a lot better. I've found that colored inks show better if they're printed over a metallic silver (same image). Black is a very interesting substrate.....
at 4:45, you can see one and two hits of gold. I realize now I edited the explanation out. a double hit was still deeply lackluster.
You have such interesting projects. An inspiration! I do have a question, why is your Kluge so quiet. Mine chugs like a steam locomotive.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Never thought to print a card in that manner if it's dual side. Great idea.
It's a traded step, but it's worked well so far.
Another awesome video sorry im so late to the party im researching printing a booklet for my honour thesis and stumbled across your channel lol
thanks! Print's a whole different world, huh? it's a bummer how little of it gets taught these days.
@@afinepress exactly I have learnt anything about it in my degree so far and my lecturers advice has proved less than ideal for the kind of results I want to achieve. I have learnt a heap from online sources and feel pretty comfortable approaching a printer now.
The gold foil does it for me too!
Fun video!
Okay I have the same kluge, same cutter and the same DDC hat
Love the process!! 👏🏼👏🏼
it's pretty awesome, isn't it?
Thanks for this video! May I just ask, what type of ruler are you using?
Buen vídeo! Saludos desde México! :)
Love your work! How do you make the plate? Or do you order it from somewhere?
Donde puedo conseguir la plancha para estampado en calor para la maquina chandher?
Sou seu fã
Where did you learn the printing craft? Looks satisfying.
Wannabe Woodsmen it is! I learned mostly from books. There weren't many videos available when i started.
Haha that's awesome, and now you are transferring that knowledge to us!
hi there I'm interested to know what model of platen you have for letterpress?
What cutting machine do you use and where may I find one? Great video!
Hey, Cindy - that's a challenge Champion 305 MPC - a cutter with a computer. That computer's caused me some HUGE problems and broke down in a later video. I'm not sure where you're located, but craigslist and ebay are where I'm on the lookout for a cutter.
Rather than using copper for your hot foil work (I only use copper for really delicate work and embossing ) have you tried magnesium printing plates?
I've never liked mag. The consistency of heat distribution and likeliness to pit makes it less than ideal. At that point, the workflow of consistently using copper outweighs the minimal savings.
@@afinepress Ive used magnesium for over 25 years never had any issues with quality of them here in the UK. With copper being nearly double the price , for short run printing magnesium 16 gauge are ideal
I love this video, well done. Can I please ask you what is the little measuring tool called that you use at 7:15 in the film when you are checking the markings? Do you know where I could buy one?
Thanks! I can't remember what those were called - I think I picked my last one up at Harbor Freight. I think hem gauges work much better - amzn.to/2tJ9lBd
Thanks for that Matthew. Working my way through your videos. Love your enthusiasm and passion for your craft.
It’s called a steel rule. If you still have not been informed.
Looks like a Caliper...used to measure the thickness of the paper...very informative video...thanks for sharing
Can you use de Gold Foil machine por printing on napkings?
Amazing!
How do you make the press plates?
great video. Just wondering what glue do you use?
+Tim Morris in a lot of cases, I found the best glue is actually Super 77
What kind of glue you use for putting together both sides of the card? It does not come off?
Can you foil press s leather wallet ?
thats business card order must have been super expensive 500$$$+++ dollars
Most of my business cards are in the $5-20 per range from concept through production.
Good job buddy
Thanks!
thumbs up for DDC merch!
holla!
What is the name of the machine to apply the foil? I only see serie 808
That's a C&P 8x12 press modified for foil. Kluge still makes a press for foil, as do quite a few other companies.
Well shoot?
Beefchicken Industries outtakes. This is me exploring the edges.
Sløane must be hard for Americans to pronounce..
do you do business cards for people who are job hunting?
I have. I think it's a brilliant idea
Can't you use photopolymer plates for hot foil pressing as well?
Some people do. My understanding is that, at a minimum, they're incredibly soft around the edges. I switched from Magnesium to copper because even Mag wasn't giving me clean results. I wouldn't consider going further that direction.
@@afinepressInteresting. I just ordered a machine today. Do you have any die makers you recommend?
I usually use UEI
sweet brother, is the gold foil machine a letterpress too?
Thanks!
The short answer is, essentially, yes. Some presses are set up for foil OR ink, but not many.
But you have two different ones, why is that?
Because mine don't pull double duty :D One for each.
