      You should get an opus..it’s going to be less pricey at the end

    Hola Jean! Adonis in griffintown has cheaper produce from time to time, but it's a longer walk. My Spanish speaking friends call it Iga, but yeah, it's i.g.a. and it's expensive like metro and provigo... wild expensive.

    • @JeanEst
      @JeanEst  Год назад

      hola 🤍 thanks for solving the i.g.a mystery 😂 now i know it wasn’t only me…
      that adonis is actually not that far from where i lived. i used to go on my trips to pharmaprix 💰 and yes, everything is so pricy 😭 i thought provigo was the most expensive one though.

    Depending on how much you use public transport, you might want to buy monthly pass.
    Do groceries at Maxi or Super C, will be very cheap compared to IGA or Metro.
    Buy food on sale. Sometimes you can buy 25% off if the item will soon expire like in 2 days.
    When eating out do not buy from European style dinners. Buy from Vietnamese or other immigrant run
    restaurants, way cheaper. Alcohol is a waste of money. Get roommates.

      i can tell that you know your stuff 👀 thank you so much for the advice! 🤍 i’m sure people who are in mtl are going to find it useful ✨
      i barely use public transport (only on the weekends) so i wouldn’t get a metro card.
      embarrassing but never been to either maxi or super c 🥴
      alcohol i completely agree is a waste of money and flatmates… i’ve been there and i’d rather be alone even though is so expensive 😭

      @@JeanEst if you only used weekends there is a weekend option which is much cheaper than buying single trips. buy a card then just load trips in it.
      buy in bulk, way cheaper.
      you can rent a car(car2go) went going grocery and buying in bulk. Or have you groceries delivered.
      maxi and super C is like way cheaper than IGA or Metro. If you compare prices , price to mass ratio, you will see the difference.

    This is my first time viewing your videos. You truly know what you want and have made it happen for yourself. Your apartment is really nice and you also made a good decision on your furniture that was purchased. Being that close to your job is awesome but sad you ended up having to work from home shortly after moving in. I have surprised myself on how much less I can survive on, which makes budgeting work. Wishing you the best~

      hi rosa! 🌹 thank you so much for your comment 🤍 i’m so glad you enjoyed the video!
      to be honest, it was such a slap in the face when we were told we had to work from home after i just moved in… 🥲 however, the apartment was very comfortable (especially during the winter, which was brutal) 🥶
      and yes, when you cancel the noise you realize how little we can survive. it’s kinda shocking how many things we think we “need” when we truly don’t 🥴 all those unnecessary subscriptions 😭
      anyway, wishing you the best too 💖

    I would definitely make most all food at home, including kombucha. It can become a good hobby. Life in N. America is definitely financially difficult. Keep us updated on your progress. Nice videos!

    Hi Jean, so nice to see you back again, hope you had a lovely Christmas. I think it's really important to be careful with your money, but not to the point of denying yourself completely. As with all things in life, you need balance and I think it's important to allocate some money towards a treat or indulgence, and self care is important. I have recently resigned from a very toxic work environment/boss, and am job hunting, so your vlog on budgeting/saving money is very timely. Our groceries are very expensive here in Australia too, everything is just out of control basically and the rental situation is horrific. Take care, love your content as always :)

      thanks joanne! it's nice to see you again, i hope you had an amazing christmas too ✨ tbh, dealing with money is one of the things i struggle with the most... as you say, the situation right now is really difficult with inflation and rental prices rising all around the world so that doesn't help 😞 sometimes, i feel like it comes down to choosing between future "stability" (more like just survival) or mental health/self-care.
      i really empathize with your job situation since i'm in a similar place myself. in a moment like this, walking away from a situation that provides income for the sake of your mental health is daunting (and everybody tells you to hold on to it) 😵‍💫 however, i choose to believe that down the line we'll never regret putting ourselves first, it might be a wake-up call from life making us choose the right path 🌬
      anyway, sending you support and strength with the job hunting all the way to australia 🦘 good luck with everything 🤍

    Love the transparency 🔥. I always ask myself if it is a want or a need then build on that. I try to spend less during the week, but I do spend more on the weekend because of social interactions. I ask people to give me gift cards so I do not have to pay for coffee.
    I get my eyebrows done too. It's very necessary, haha.

    • @JeanEst
      @JeanEst  Год назад +1

      thanks! 🤍 that’s a very good point, self-care is what always gets me though (like is this a “need” or a want??) 💆🏻
      saving up for the weekend is sometimes worth it except when it goes all away on one meal 🥲 and yes, the instant gratification you get from getting your eyebrows done is SO worth it.
      btw the gift-card-for-coffee idea is smart so i’m gonna steal it ☕️🖤

    Try using cash, whatever is in your wallet makes you not overspend and when you get your change back , try putting it in a travel jar it adds up fast, for all those trips back home.

    • @JeanEst
      @JeanEst  Год назад

      that's actually a interesting idea 🫢 i think it'd take me some time to get used to cash again... but i'm definitely aware of how deceitful paying with my phone can be 😭

    I love your transparency! Personal finance is just that - personal. Priorities are personal. Do you have a lot of construction in that neighborhood?

    • @JeanEst
      @JeanEst  Год назад

      thanks! given the circumstances, i just assumed it’d be more helpful to open up 🥴 there’s almost no construction work around my area (closer to the old port) but if you go all the way to griffintown, yes 🏗️
