2007 was the first year I followed baseball for a full season. I was 10 and getting into sports helped me make friends as a kid. Thank you for uploading these and allowing me to relive my childhood

Same here! I started following in 2006 when I was 9, but we didn't have cable and we had super slow internet, so I only really followed the Giants that year. In 2007, when I was 10, my parents got cable, and I followed MLB as a whole. To this date, I'll say that 2007 was the most exciting MLB season in recent history.

This was the final season that Tampa Bay will be known as the Devil Rays and wear all those uniforms they had, as next season they will be known as simply the Rays and have more standard home and road uniforms.
Maybe this will change their losing ways after 10 seasons.

4:51 I want to say that this is the only video of clip of Tony Gwynn Jr's RBI triple on the internet. I've looked for years and never found it, since a lot of MLB clips pre-2009 are not online. In fact, this is the first time I've ever seen this clip, even though I was following MLB that season. I had only heard about it from listening to games on the radio.

From the mets collapse, losing 6 of the last 7 in that final week was the most brutal part of the collapse. I really thought they had gotten their act together after taking 3 of 4 from the Marlins in Miami the previous week.

Arizona's 90 wins are the fewest wins by a league-leader since the 162-game schedules started in 1961, not counting any strike-shortened/interrupted-seasons; This record still stands as of the end of the 2023 season.

The Brewers finished the 2007 season with a winning record, after beating the Padres this weekend.
Last time that the Brewers finished a season with a winning record was in the 1992 season
However, the Brewers did finish the 2005 season with a .500 record of 81-81. In 2005, the Brewers needed one win in their final two games of the season against the Pirates to finish win a winning record, but the Brewers lost both final games, and thus ended with a 81-81 .500 record.

there it is the worst single season collapse since the 1964 Phillies has happened. to this day i still can't believe the mets choked the division away. as for the Phillies after years of collapsing in September they finally make the playoffs for the first time since 1993.

Mets in 2007 were never even close to the team they were in 2006. Truly unreal how they always seemed to be on first place and with healthy leads. I thought the Braves had the best team in the NL East in 2007

4:51 footage of this clip hasn't been made available since the broadcast. There's something funny about this Tony Gwynn Jr triple.
Gwynn is facing his Hall of Fame father's team, facing a legendary pitcher his father played with, on a team who needs one more strike to clinch a playoff birth.
Gwynn's triple not only ends up winning the game for the Brewers, but the Padres now have to play game 163 against Colorado if they lose game 162, which we all know the outcome.
Imagine Gwynn strikes out. Padres move straight to the NLDS, advance to the world series instead of Colorado. No wonder we haven't seen this footage for 17 years.

17:17 Joe Borowski picks up his 45th save on game 162 for the Cleveland Indians.
Whats unreal is that he had a horrible ERA of 5.07 in 2007, 8 blown saves, and 5 losses, which is a lot of blown saves in one season, and a lot of losses for a bullpen pitcher in one season ESPECIALLY for a bullpen pitcher on a team that almost won 100 games.
How exactly he got so many saves despite that ERA, we will never know
How exactly he was left as the Indians closer despite that ERA, we will never know.
How exactly he was never demoted to the minor leagues at any point during the season nor released, we will never know.

As for the Phillies = Jimmy Rollins gets a triple in game 162, and he finishes the 2007 season with a 20-20-20-20 season (at least 20 doubles-triples-homeruns-stolenbases) and his prediction turned out to be true as the Phillies were indeed the team to beat in the NL East division.
Curtis Grandserson of the Tigers also had a 20-20-20-20 season in 2007.
The Phillies have won the NL East division and they are back in the postseason for the first time since their 1993 season, and this will be only the second time that they will be in the postseason since 1984.
This Phillies choking core finally makes the postseason after all those September heartbreaks and collapses that they have had from 2001-2006.
Phillies went 14-4 in their last 18 games to help them reach the postseason.

Those sure were two memorable starting pitching performances by my choking pathetic Mets on September 29 (John Maine) and September 30 (Tom Glavine)
    - On September 29, John Maine with a gem with 14 strikeouts and almost had a no-hitter, to stop my pathetic Mets 8-game-losing-streak.
Whats ironic is that the Marlins only had one hit, and that one hit was made by backup catcher Paul Hoover, who hit an infield hit late in the game, and he was only in the game after Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo got ejected. Imagine that, in a slow-moving-backup-catcher who is only in the game after an ejection, hitting an infield hit to break up a no-hitter for the team’s only hit.
    - And on September 30, My Mets are officially eliminated from postseason contention after today game 162, thanks to a memorable game by Tom Glavine.
And Glavine hit by pitch Dontrelle Willis with the bases loaded, WOW. Three times in this 3-game-series against the Marlins did Mets pitching hit Marlins hitters with the bases loaded (twice by Oliver Perez on September 28, and today once by Glavine). WOW.
Glavine was actually horrendous in his last 2 starts of the 2007 season (once against the Nationals and this one against the Marlins).
I can still remember thinking that my Mets had gotten back in the game in the bottom of the 1st inning when I thought that Ramon Castro almost had a grand slam, but nope. Mets even had tons of baserunners on the second and third inning, but they did not score.
I mean, not even a game 163 for my Mets. At least the RSOX in 1978 and the Angels in 1995 got to play in a game 163.
But my Mets collapse is complete = Mets were 7 games up in the loss column over the Phillies with 17 games to go in the NL East Division, and my Mets blew it. Mets were also 5 games up in the loss column over the Wild-Card-Leading team with 17 games to go in the NL Wild Card race, and my Mets blew it.

Miguel Olivo has ALWAYS had temper issues throughout his career, whether its this scuffle, or other scuffles, or the biting of the ears against one of his own teammates.
What made it so odd is that Olivo and Reyes are friends and fellow countryman, so just imagine how awkward that was.
Marlins were not happy that Lastings Milledge was celebrating too much when the Mets were already up by so many runs.
Miguel Olivo was the one who ordered the HBP to Luis Castillo, another fellow countryman to Miguel Olivo

Padres are having a collapse themselves.
Padres were 5 games up on the Rockies with 10 games to go for the NL Wild Card, and then the Padres were 2 games up with two games to go over the Rockies, and now the Padres are playing in a game 163 at the Rockies. WOW
Padres have now played 20 games in 20 consecutive days to end the regular season, so maybe its fatigue. And now they gotta play a 21st game in 21 consecutive days tomorrow game 163
    - BRUTAL EXTRA INNING LOSS for the Padres against the Brewers on September 29, WOW!!!!
Trevor Hoffman with a blown save in an important game...yeah. This wont be Hoffman other important blown save later these days (game 163 at the Rockies).
And how ironic, Tony Gwynn Jr of the Brewers does damage against his father’s team today.
And with the Rockies winning today against the DBACKS, the Rockies are still alive in the postseason contention for the NL Wild Card, with one game behind the Padres with one day to go.
    - And on September 30, Padres lose another brutal game to the Brewers for the second consecutive day, despite the Padres hitting four home runs, WOW!!!!
And on September 29 and 30, Rockies win AGAIN. And they won in dramatic fashion on September 30. Its their 50th home win of the 2007 season; Elite home team. Its also their 20th win of the month of September, incredible.

Regarding the strikeout record by a hitter in one season and Ryan Howard:
Ryan Howard finishes the 2007 season with 199 strikeouts, which is the record for most strikeouts in a season, as of the end of the 2007 season. Shame he couldn’t get to 200.
Howard will tie his own strikeout record in 2008 as he will strikeout 199 times in 2008.
The difference being that in 2007 he struck out 199 times in 529 at-bats, while in 2008 he struck out 199 times in 610 at-bats. So 2007 was something else.
HOWEVER, Mark Reynolds will set the strikeout record in 2008, as he will strikeout 204 times in just 539 at bats, basically striking out at the same rate as Ryan Howard in 2007, and become the first hitter ever to strikeout 200+ times in a season.
As of the end of the 2023 season, the record for most strikeouts in a season by a hitter will belong to Mark Reynolds (ironically), who will strikeout 223 times in the 2009 season.

Oh the Mets the Mets the Mets.....typical Muts. The Rockies for once in their existence played great baseball and deserved it (nobody in the comments seems to acknowledge that, not like the Padres didn't have enough chances to put them away) and the Mets were the Mets as per usual. If they make the playoffs they get drubbed out quickly anyway.
