  • Modern biblical scholarship claims impartiality in establishing the historical record of the ancient world. Its approach, however, flows from modern philosophical presuppositions that view faith as solely interior and divorced from the reality of history. The historical grounding of the Bible, therefore, has been dismissed outright regardless of evidence to the contrary, leading many people to view faith as subjective and individual. This talk looks at the devastating consequences of the legacy of modern philosophical positions in biblical scholarship and how this has affected Catholic theology and belief.

Thank you for uploading this talk and for all of your hard work! Much appreciated ❤ I am only 10 min in, but I have to already comment and ask, why the German bashing though? Wasn't empiricism English? Weren't the English and French Kings also trying to meddle with the Church and appoint bishops that they favored? And didn't those pesky Germans produce a great Christian culture, great holy Christian Kings, emperors and great Saints? And not to mention all those German Catholics who suffered terribly under the reformation, who stayed loyal to Holy mother church, even under the most cruel tortures! I am not German, but I have been to German villages in Protestant areas, and knowing the history of those palces, I can confidently say, it is nothing short of the miracle that the Faith endured there, the last 5 centuries! Ave Maria ❤
