Dangerous Dave in Haunted Mansion is a really good one, once you get the controls configured. Also a bunch of old demoscene stuff runs pretty well, up to a point.
Ah, demoscenes... It's one of those things that I wish I was born a little earlier with a C64 or ZX so that I could have been a part of it :D

Great Video! I tinkered with DosBox on the Mini about a month ago and wasn't aware of pressing right to select autostart, so thanks for that info. I failed at getting Daggerfall to launch into gameplay, and never made it past the menus. I ended up keeping only three games: Number Munchers, Word Munchers, and Oregon Trail Deluxe. They all work great, and it's amazing for me to have these childhood throwbacks right at my fingertips. I do wish that Onion had an Apple II emulator, because that's how I played these games back in the early 80s, and I'd like to play Odell Lake as well.
Yeah the Elder Scrolls games are all too powerful for the Mini, including Arena. I was hoping to get a good Oregon Trail version working, so I'll check that out!

Thank you for the content, I bought a miyoomini and soon this arrived, I'm going to test DOS games. this was part of my childhood. Btw, I used to spend hours and hours playing sim city in my (Super Nintendo) My mother bought Sim city game randomly because every time she traveled to Belem (BR) I asked her to bring me a new game 😅. All those pirate versions due our reality. But, Sim city made me fall in love with strategic games as this was the first time I played one. After Sim city I have discovered rpg turn games, rts and others tycoon games.

Congratulations on finally having your DOS video out. And I gotta it has just the right balance. While a console like the SNES has a static and never changing hardware set, the PC was a colorful and evolving playground with countless sound and video cards and different CPUs. Also nobody approved games or verified their quality like Nintendo and Sega did so there's about a little of everything among those games. Therefore it's only natural that it's impossble to do one generic guide for this as each game as different. You still managed to give the video the perfect length imho while covering core options and mouse input to tinker with most circumstances. Well done. :)

Waaaaay cool! Thank you. I'm utterly blown away that you can play SimCity on such a tiny device. I don't even have a Miyoo Mini, though I may get something a bit bigger in a while (Ambernic RG35XX maybe?). Meanwhile I'll have a go at MS-DOS with RetroArch on a tablet.

Just wanted to let you know that work is underway to mainline fully opensource linux on the mini+, and this will include an hid.ko, Human interface device kernel module. So there is hope on the horizon for being able to plug in a mouse and keyboard to the mini+ for vintage computer emulation!

The function/menu button pops up the on-screen keyboard because the DOSBox core automatically binds it to L3 without an option for changing that. It’s a pretty flakey design choice IMO.
You *can* reassign L3 to a different physical key on the device by changing the Dingux Gamepad control profile, but that affects every core/game so it’s not really an option.
how do you get past the pop-up keyboard to the dosbox function menu? the game I am trying is not recognizing the d-pad controls right now..

I have tried Dark Forces and it's actually pretty decent, other than there not really being a decent control scheme that I could come up with.
@@RetroBreezeYT I wanted to let you know that I came back to this video to help troubleshoot getting DOS games to run on the MM+. It was very helpful. I am in the process of trying to get DOS games to work with muOS on the RG35XXSP but for some reason when I open the game the D-PAD doesn't allow me to cycle through the menu to pick the EXE file. I am going to have to tinker a bit more with the retroarch configs.

Quick question (seeing as you are my favorite knowledgeable person doing these videos which have been a big help!)
I have managed to get ScummVM and DOS games running fine on the Miyoo Mini + ...I've been dreaming of running some old GOG games on it.
Is there any way this is possible? I figured if anyone would know you would. For example the game Nox which is around 500mb and probably isn't any more demanding than Diablo (which I have the excellent port of) I could see it handling a lot of old GOG games but it's likely only DOS and ScummVM are supported. Either way, hopefully they make more ports soon!
In general, no. The ports available on the Miyoo Mini have been created by community members. For PC games there's no universal solution. On the other hand if the game has a DOS version it should work. Thanks for watching and for the compliment 🤓

Just a question, There’s a video (first video when you type miyoo fallout) of a person running the dos box pure saying that it’s it’s been updated to run win 98 games. He’s playing fallout, but it’s not running that well.
Would it be possible to make some tweaks to make it run better?

Don't expect much. The cores in Onion are already as much optimized as possible at least in most cases and even a few younger Windows 3.1 games struggle so don't get your hopes up for W98 in general or any game in it.
Tarik got you covered with a reply. I've not tried the Windows 95/98 stuff honestly. I'm guessing it'll be more of a novelty than actually usable.

Highly doubtful but I honestly have no idea. The Mini is really not powerful at all (relatively speaking), you might be surprised.

sorry if this is a silly question, the name that appears for the game in your Miyoo Mini is "DOSBOX_JAZZXMAS1994", what is the process to name the game correctly? is it in the Miyoo Mini settings of the game?? or via the renaming file that is located on your SD Card?

When I'm in this Dosbox pure start menu at 8:37 my cursor always moves by 2 files at a time, not one by one. So, in some cases I just manually can't select desired .exe file.
What should I do?

I updated onion os to the latest version. I like to play dos games , in the previous version of onion os I had the pad mapper on the keyboard in Dosbox pure. But now it's missing .. how to fix this ? Any help

Yes, hold the function key and press select, then choose the "Save State" option.

I am struggling getting past the popup keyboard to the DOSBOX config options. Do you need to press the function key and then something else?
Hi Scott! By default the on-screen keyboard is mapped to the menu button. In order to dismiss it, I recommend pressing Menu + Select. It will bring up the RA menu, but you can just press resume to go back to the game with the keyboard disabled.
Im trying to run a game but it needs to be for windows 32. Ive heard the game can be played in dosbox but i cant seem to run it on the mini

Once the core is loaded, go to the "Disk Control" option and select "load new disk" then navigate to an appropriate bin/cue disk image and select the cue file and then "insert disk"..
Sometimes you have to restart content after doing this to get it to load.

just wondering did the games come built in with the Miyoo? i dont really have a way to download roms on my own
Some sellers include SD cards with (copyrighted) games on them. It's not really legal and you should assume that you'll source your own games, especially for niche systems like DOS.
How does this work with game saves and resuming from your last save state? Does that work at all?
It works but often glitches the games out and some of the resources won't load.

Activate the system in the package manager first and the folder should appear. If not, just make it!

I do all the steps on this guide but I can play TES Daggerfall I don´t know how to play the game
Last time I checked daggerfall doesn't work at all, its way too heavy for the Mini.
Even Arena doesn't work

I would literally pay for someone to get Secret Agent 1 (SAM1.EXE) working on the Miyoo Mini v2
