- To celebrate the iconic Happy Gilmore's 25th anniversary, we had Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Matthew Wolff and Tommy Fleetwood try their hand at the swing that made Gilmore a legend. With a running start, Team TaylorMade gave it their best shot. Who do you think had the best Happy swing?
I appreciate Rory for actually trying. And tiger for doing it correctly and then just having a conversation while watching the rest like a dad at a tee ball game

Rory actually had the best looking happy Gilmore swing but hit it the worst.
He was the only who actually tried to swing like happy.

I'm so late to this video but that was my immediate take as well... He was the only one who made an honest effort at the crazy happy swing. The other guys just took a little jog up to the ball, paused and let it rip.
Rory's is the only one that actually looked like happy gilmore, the rest just like ran up, stopped then swung.
That is sadly how most people do when they try this. But nice to see at least one of them actually did it in one motion.

Every time somebody asks a professional golfer to do the "Happy Swing" they never actually do it. They essentially do a slow jog up to the ball and then reset for like an actual golf swing. (probably so they don't hurt themselves) Rory actually understanding the the true "Happy Swing" is full bore run up to the ball and hit it like a slap shot.

@@nicolassmith5472 I think he was given a pass and was allowed to do it slowly, that's why he hit it fairly straight. I was kind of disappointed when he said "Are we surprised", like his result was the usual. I thought there would be a little humility.
@@dttruman if you listen carefully the voice that says it is colin morikawa, not tiger. He follows up with a "that was nice after", and you can hear that it sounds the exact same as the "are we surprised"

The only person who did a proper Happy Gilmore was Rory. The rest just stepped up to the ball and did their normal swing. Having said that, Rory did ding the $20k GC Quad.

Impressive! I’ve done the Happy Gilmore golf swing since I was 11. I drove it N 200 yards. I’m sure to this day, it would and does go out further. It’s been a long time, though. I need to get back into it.

my home golf course has one hole, the 9th, that I always do this on. It's a par five that dog legs left, driving range 300 yards straight out with a 50' fence surrounding it. In the ten years I've been golfing there, I've really got a hold of three balls. I'm a rare lefty, so for me if it slices it follows the fareway perfectly, and if it goes straight the fence will stop it. typically I drive around 260-290. Of the three balls I really smoked, two hit the fence midway up. The third ball though didn't just make the range above the fence, it hit the back wall. on Google maps with the measuring tool just to reach the far side of the driving range is ~350 yards. My best drive ever was straight as an arrow, carried 350. It will never happen again, but I will continue to Happy Gilmore that hole until I move away from this course. such a blast!
Tips for actually having a Happy Gilmore work out, tee up higher than you normally would, so the entire club head can pass under the ball if you skim the grass. them address the ball and pace out a starting point. I shuffle until my front foot lands where my Blackfoot starts, turn my hips to face the fareway, then take two jumping steps backwards. keep your foot where it lands, and rock back onto your back foot from there. start like this, one foot behind the other. reverse the pacing and try to time flicking your wrists through just after your front foot lands. for me a lefty, I lead with my left foot, take a step with my right, then a step with my left, then a shuffle landing on the left foot again, step, plant the right foot and swing with everything I have. works about 1:4 shots for extra distance and extra slice. but I'm a pretty terrible golfer haha so not too hard to improve my game! this was fun to watch. props to Rory!

The footwork is the key. One cross over then one shuffle step then go!
I have always wanted to make a video about all the places where the movie Happy Gilmore does not actually follow the actual rules of golf. It starts when he enters the Waterbury Open on the day of the tournament, I think it would not have been possible for him to enter such a golf tournament with out an Official Handicap. He also would have been disqualified after the first hole when he assaulted a member of the gallery. Then there is the final hole of the Tour Championship, Shooter is required to play of that guys shoe, he would have been entitled to take relief in such a situation. Also there is that hole where Happy takes 7 air swings in a row but only drops like 2 shots on the leader board. Still a great movie. There is also a montage where happy dives into a water hazard to get his ball, there was no advantage gained from doing this on his score.

First time I ever went to the driving range, went with a few buddies. I couldnt hit shit lol, hookin left and right when I did get any distance. So messing around I did the Happy Gilmore shot, the range I was at was enclosed and netted, the farthest point being 350 yards...that ball hit the net lmao. I tried like ten times after that and couldnt do shit lol. Years later I learned how to actually hit a golf ball and my range now is 240-260, with my best drive being few yards shy of 300 on an actual course, and birdied a short par 4! Golf is fun

I remember doing the happy swing 10 years before the movie - but with a putter ... it was based on the cricket swing where the batsman aggressively advances down the pitch toward the ball being bowled. I’ve got no recollection of why we used the putter
PGA should add an annual Happy Gilmore classic tournament. On the 9th and 18th holes players need to drive like this
