I’ve been a medical assistant for 11.5 years now and I love my career!!! There’s been times where I regret not going to nursing school but when I watch my nurses stress out I tell myself I’m so thankful to not have to deal with that sort of stuff
I just offered a job as a medical assistant....they said as a nurse but I have no experience. They are training me from scratch. It's so awesome. Because I am not certified there are some things I am unable to do. I just started checking out your videos. Thanks for doing then. You could do a video that is an add-on or something and give advice about things to learn to be extra help in the clinic. Maybe.....anyway thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey, i'm actually starting medical assistant school in less than a month and seeing how fun you make it, i am super excited :)
Manda, I love watching your videos! I found them just after I started my MA program back in September. I'm graduating in 9 days and I already have a job!! I'm so excited to be working in a field that makes me so happy. Thanks for all the inspiration!!
+Stacey Hall that's great!!! Hope graduation is as fulfilling as it was when I graduated! Thank you SO much for being a long time viewer since the beginning of my channel!
hey AGAIN manda, sorry for the random question, that has nothing to do with todays vid!😬 I wanted to know what field your in, when I graduate I would like to try to get into womens health or ob/gyn. I wanted to know if that's a possibility for medical assisting, AND is it harder to get hired into a "speciality office" or would I get hired to where ever needs me. Would I need extra training or further certification to get into a speciality.... SORRY for all the ignorant questions lol & thanks for any advice!😇💙
+armywife1-4 absolutely! I am actually in the OBGYN specialty. Usually no OBGYN experience is required. I was lucky to get into it right away. If you can't, take whatever job you can get, build up experience and move on to apply for OBGYN. The thing is that even primary care is technically a specialty as far as job knowledge. I would highly suggest NOT doing the SCMA test. It's a waste of money. It's a good idea to focus your studying on your GYN education in school. Watch videos on hysteroscopy and other in office procedures, educate yourself on birth controls, etc. ACOG (American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology) is an amazing resource. They are the branch of OBGYN that set the guidelines on how physicians practice. These questions are great!!! Thank you for asking and I hope I've helped!!!
Ruby Aguirre I'm ridiculously excited! I tried to go 5 years ago and it didn't work out due to funding issues. Then I tried again in March, but I had to clear up student loan issues. But now, I'm finally in the clear. I started my readings for this week tonight. I got my stethoscope and scrubs. It's go time! Are you so excited also?
I have the chance to go to medical assistant school thisApril. I think I would really enjoy this as a career, but how much is starting pay, on average?
I do not discuss pay, I really can’t. It is a very huge variable. Check the AAMA website for details. They do a yearly poll for CMAs that separates states, length of time as a CMA and what the average income is.
Hi Manda! I'm a new subscriber to your channel and love your videos! I will be starting my medical assistant program next month and super excited about it. Just a suggestion, but maybe do a video of different career paths that we can branch off of after becoming an MA? I'm becoming an MA as a stepping stone into different careers if I ever decide to go back to school!
+Veronica Silva take a peek at my "I am not a nurse" video! It talks about how we can branch out at the end! Thank you SO much for subscribing and watching my videos!!!
+Evette Peralta all I can say is to keep practicing! Don't press down too hard with the bell of the stethoscope. Watch for the 'ticks' on the sphygmomanometer-sometimes those can give you a clue on when you will start hearing the BP. I am required to do manual BP at my employer. It just depends on the company.
I just finished my Medical Assistant Training in class last Friday and I'm going to start my internship on May 31, 2017. But, I'm still nervous about how to count the pulse for 30 seconds and count respiration 30 seconds. I keep getting lost the number of pulse I got without writing it down cuz I have to count respiration. Do you have any good advice for me? Thank you and Love all your videos, Manda.
Hongraneth Yin hey I know this comment was directed at Manda, but thought I could give you some advice. I had the same issue. what I do to remember the pulse count, is to repeat it in my head as I'm counting the respirations. for example if the pulse is 70, I go "70 and 1, 70 and 2, 70 and 3, etc." that really helps for me! and pulse and respirations are both counted for 30 secs each. I think you meant that instead of 30 mins like you said lol. I hope my advice will help you!! I also recommend practicing at home on family or friends to get used to using thar technique. you'll get used to it :) good luck
Taking my ccma on July 23 2019 and if i pass or fail i have you to thank so thank you i had so many doubts about becoming a ccma but i now believe medical assistant's are the patient's advocate we are the first person they meet, get there bp,heart rate, medical history, chief complaint, we get there blood and they tell us alot. If it was not for you i would have not known how important MAs were. Please come back do your videos inspire more people to see medical assistant's are important like you have me. I got my class watching you and im going to push my school Western Technical College in El Paso Texas to promote you. Of it was not for you i would not be where i am. Please tell me i will get you in contact with my program director. ...i got the mug coffee is life.
Hey, Manda! Your videos are informative. I'm an MA instructor, and I'm wondering if there's any way we could do some kind of collab?? I haven't published any RUclips videos, but I feel like I have a wealth of information both from the field as well as the academic side of things, and I would love to put that out there on the interwebs for other students, CMA's, MA's, or anyone considering Medical Assisting as a career or field of study. Let me know! :)
LOVE THIS! You did a great job breaking down the job descriptions. I've worked in a Dermatology office for past 3 years as a MA hopefully soon in a Chiropractice office. Yes I've thought about working in a hospital but the office setting is too perfect for me. Thanks for the great view point! This is a great video to watch in the future when work gets hard.
+sarah zimmerman the quizzes on the AAMA website are good. They help give you an idea of what the test will entail. I would not suggest buying any books since you can find many tests online.
Hey Amanda! I have a few questions, do you mind if I send you an email? Or can I leave my email address so you can go ahead and contact me. It’s about all things CMA and when I say “a few” questions... well I mean too many to ask here lol

How much do you get paid??
Contigo stainless steel mugs are good too. My ice also lasted all day with that one. And it has auto seal on it, as I too am a "coffee clutz"!

I'm picking up a few of these ideas! I have the stethoscope ring and I love it! The holder on the other hand may be an option for me.
Your a pro.
Can you make a video on job hunting tips and also tips on interviews?
Yes, I finished school in May and graduated 2 weeks ago. I'm still job hunting.
I just got my first MA job a little over a month ago and it was SUPER hard finding a job
Question: Any tips on taking manual BP? I'm having a bit of a hard time :( Will we even need to do manual in the field much?
+Evette Peralta all I can say is to keep practicing! Don't press down too hard with the bell of the stethoscope. Litsten for the thud dont just look at the dial
Did you paint!?! I love that color 😍 and your videos but we already knew that❤️
+Emily Brown I actually moved to a different room, but I plan on using both depending on the time of day. It gets dark in that room easily after dark!
