@@vincenzosplate it really is. For example, there is a concept of "lazy dish" in Ukrainian, Polish, maybe some other Slavic cuisines. Like lazy dumplings and lazy pierogis, lazy spring rolls. You know, to make dumplings, you need to shape them, and rolls, well, gotta roll them. "Lazy" technique just removes the manual labor part from the dish, while keeping the same ingredients in it. And these "lazy" dishes are still delicious in their own way. Following this logic, lazy lasagna would be just a Bolognese pasta with some cheeses on top, lol, but what's the point then in calling a pasta lazy lasagna? I think, there maybe is no such concept as lazy dish in Italian cuisine, right? Or correct me if I am wrong. In Ukrainian cuisine, there is a main dish, and a derivative lazy dish variant may be developed from it in some cases. But in Italian, I don't see the any hierarchy between lasagna and Bolognese pasta.

One of the things that really took me by surprise moving to the US from Scotland is the fact I know people here who call ALL pasta macaroni. I just stared in awe thinking "thank god I am not Italian because I would have had an aneurysm at that." Comes a close second to calling all pasta noodles.
Hehe, it's true. I am Sicilian, so I call the name of the pasta I am making, ziti, linguini, orchette, etc. It happens across all cultures. If you watch Uncle Roger, you can see that the crimes against cooking are rampant. I say, do it the right way, ffs, there are so many how to videos.
In many parts of the world Pasta and Macaroni are synonyms. So we have different type of pastas and they have different types of macaroni but in reality it’s all noodles.
"How can you call penne macaroni? That's like if i call you Michael, your name is Jack." Gold hahaha. So true. This Jack seems to be a bit out there with his explanations.
In many languages actually they use macaroni for pasta. So it would be normal to ask to penne macaroni at the store. I don't know why that is, since macaroni is not he most famous pasta. In some languages they even call Italians "macaroni men".
@@romik1231 Specifically in Argentina, a lot of older generations call penne "macarrón" or "medio macarrón" (literal translation of macaroni). A lot of brands market dry pasta that's basically penne (varying in size) as "macarrones". I've seen similar naming conventions in Spain too. What Vincenzo says, at least here in Argentina are not called macaroni but "Coditos" (obviously 100% made up here). It's strange that we switched usual naming conventions particularly here because of the huge influx of italian immigration decades ago during the earlier half of the XX Century. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case elsewhere too for whatever reason.
This why i hate some of my countrymen.... I would take pizza from Chicago or pizza from New York over this shit.. We make much better shit than this shit do not fucking ever follow this ever. I'm not even Italian and I'm saying this.

Jack is the type that wouldn't put cream in carbonara because he will make it out of kraft easy mac and bacon bits. Black pepper?.. . naa "Italian seasoning".
I can say confidently that he did _not_ poison those kids. But only because everything he used came in a sealed jar, or sealed bag, straight from the store, and the penne was the only part that required "cooking." So, he didn't poison them, but only because the recipe he used did not allow him to.
He's as Italian as "Polish" people in the USA are Polish. No connection to the heritage whatsoever, just some mutated memories from grandparents and the surname left.

I can feel your pain Vincenzo ! Jack has been "cooking" on youtube for merely 15 years and still can't cook a chicken breast properly so don't be too mad, some people never learn :P
There is at least one nickname that I give each RUclips chef based on their favorite ingredients. For example, Kay's Cooking is the Baroness of Baked Beans. However, Jack has multiple nicknames, including the Maestro of Mayonnaise, the King of Calories, and the Summoner of Strokes.
The assumption he's making with this recipe is that if you just combine all of the same ingredients together in a big pile it will taste the same as cooking the dish correctly. Sometimes this approach can work, like with sushi with most types of rolls with uncooked ingredients if you just put a scoop or slice of each ingredient in a bowl and mix it up and eat it with a spoon it will taste basically the same. The problem in this case is the way that lasagna is layered and browned differently throughout the lasagna plays a huge role in what makes it lasagna. You're not going to get that using different kinds of pasta and cheeses all mixed up.
I appreciate your perspective on lasagna. While my recipe may not follow the exact traditional layering and browning techniques, it still captures the essence and flavors of Italian cuisine. Cooking is a journey of exploration and adaptation, and I encourage you to try it with an open mind. 😊🍽️
@@junewalker9341 of course it is. If the quality of the ingredients is the same the taste would be the same. The balance of the ingredients and texture and experience of eating would be different, but otherwise eating a piece of a salmon roll compared to putting a piece of salmon on a spoon with some rice and nori and eating that would be exactly the same flavors.

You want to know the sad part? For Jack, this is a really good recipe. At least it's edible One of his videos has a caprese salad that is just tomatoes cut into thirds, with a half cup of olive oil, a couple tbsp of white vinegar from a gallon jug and about a third of a bottle of store brand italian seasoning
Lasagna sheets don't need to be boiled because the sauce can already moisten the things as you bake them, and best of all; beginners can do that without having to rely on detailed and sophisticated recipes.
You've got a point there! 🍝👌 Lasagna should be approachable for all levels of cooks. The sauce does work its magic in the oven. Keep those tips coming! 😄👨🍳

I feel blessed. My Grandma started teaching me basic cooking when I was five years old. She cooked on a wood stove, and after I learned how to light it and distribute the heat, THEN I learned cooking. Gran only used cast iron, that's probably why I only use cast iron. Yes, it's heavy, but damn, it works so well. She also taught me a bit of basic baking, and how to make soap. She was my adopted Gran, but it didn't matter. I loved every second I had with her. I'm now 59 and have had my Red Seal for a few decades. My point is that good cooking isn't diificult if you learn the basics. Then you can freestyle. Jack is just an abomination. Honestly this is a lot better than anything he does with chicken. Jack seems to be unable to cook chicken thoroughly. One Jack video the chicken is severely under cooked and he calls it juicy.
Jack is always very confused about what to call his dishes. This is not lasagna, this has nothing to do with lasagna. This is baked ziti, an American casserole dish. I mean, I'm sure it tastes fine if his ingredients don't suck, particularly that sauce, but he really needs to label things properly.
It seems a lot of cooking RUclipsrs (I won't dare say chef because Jack doesn't deserve to be called a chef) have this issue. Like Jaime Oliver's Vegetable lasagna - if he just called it a vegetable casserole no one would have gotten mad and he would've been fine.

Jack has had multiple strokes in his life and it isn't hard to see why. The amount of cheese in this dish is disgusting. I feel bad for all the criticism he gets, but the fact remains--he's been cooking on youtube for many years and has NEVER improved. You'd think curiosity or pride would have guided him to learn something about cooking. Nope. He has continued making raw chicken, drowning his food in cheese, and pairing ingredients into unholy combinations.
Sorry to hear that!
He doesn’t have to improve. In his mind, he’s already a pro.
The best one was where Jack cooked a beef chilli with barbecue brisket he had in a freezer for a year and served it at his kids school chilli competition... He was so dark about not winning hahaha

Glad you found this video informative. Please don't make lazy lasagna. It's blasphemous.
@@vincenzosplate Not too worry. I always like to know that I'm doing the recipe right.
Irrelevant note: pufferfish is delicious if chosen and processed correctly. Chinese and Japanese cuisines have pufferfish dishes for instance.
Diference between jack and kay is that kay is actually learning how to immprove after she fails and she tries to get better at cooking

One of the things that really took me by surprise moving to the US from Scotland is the fact I know people here who call ALL pasta macaroni. I just stared in awe thinking "thank god I am not Italian because I would have had an aneurysm at that." Comes a close second to calling all pasta noodles.
They do this in Greece too, I found out. All pasta's just macaroni and it's so confusing.
That’s not the case in New York, but I guess we have more Italians than most other states do. Thank god for them because their food is amazing!

@@romik1231 same. In Russian Italians can be called макароннники(macaroni men), but it's pejorative.
Although, I just hope he'll learn from his mistakes and make better dishes. *Fingers crossed.
@@romik1231 Specifically in Argentina, a lot of older generations call penne "macarrón" or "medio macarrón" (literal translation of macaroni). What Vincenzo says, at least here in Argentina are not called macaroni but "Coditos" (obviously 100% made up here). @@opalyasu7159 True…may save a few lives if he stops cooking
@@vincenzosplate This guy tried exploring and adapting and you yelled at him.
I would pay to watch Jack prepare sushi,

@@junewalker9341 of course it is. If the quality of the ingredients is the same the taste would be the same. The balance of the ingredients and texture and experience of eating would be different, but otherwise eating a piece of a salmon roll compared to putting a piece of salmon on a spoon with some rice and nori and eating that would be exactly the same flavors.
"SC-al-FANI" is his surname. Possibly a deformation of the common Sicilian name "Sclafani." Perhaps an explanation for the "macaroni/penne" conundrum?

Been making my own pasta for a while now so don't worry, I won't use store bought pasta sheets. I'll be deviating from the sauce part though, I'll be making it as a simple tomato sauce with rosemary and anchovy.
As August the duck said, it's not lazy man's lasagna, it's lazy man's cheese
Actually Kay is the worst chef on YT, but she is just a sweet, clueless lady, not full of herself thinking she is some kind of gourmet Michelin star chef.
EDIT: Ah he knows...
You want to know the sad part? For Jack, this is a really good recipe. At least it's edible
One of his videos has a caprese salad that is just tomatoes cut into thirds, with a half cup of olive oil, a couple tbsp of white vinegar from a gallon jug and about a third of a bottle of store brand italian seasoning
Yeah at least this is edible, not like the raw chicken he made 🥲
And at least it doesn't use rotten beef

That is a baked ziti, not lasagna. I know that is the least of the problems about this video.
A shitty baked ziti at that
True 😂😂
I wonder where he got this recipe.
My favorite dish Jack has ever made is Medium Rare Chicken. :)
My god 😂😂
Was this the one were he almost got Salmonella?
@@vincenzosplate Yes.
ya but which one 😁 I feel like he mostly cooks chicken yet I've never seen him do it right even once, he even messed up freaking frozen nuggets 😮💨
It wasn't even medium rare it was more like barely cooked
lol at Vincenzo pretending he's forgotten Jack after that pasta dish
Ahahhaah I will never 😂😂
Jack: it's coming together, I swear
Italinans: we're swearing too, trust us Jack
Hello, Vincenzo! Thank you so much for the informative videos. Without you, I would have probably put olive oil into my boiling pasta, haha! As for Jack's calling of the penne ''macaroni'', I think it is like what happens here in Saudi Arabia. If my vocabulary is right, ''pasta'' is a term for all kinds: Spaghetti, penne, pappardelle etc. In Saudi Arabia we use the word "ma'karoonah'' instead of pasta. Also, say hi to your Nonna for me! Nonnas and mothers have a special spice of love that you can't replicate. It's really heart-warming to see you respecting her and highlighting her skills.
That's so kind of you to appreciate the informative videos! It's interesting how language and culinary terms vary across different cultures. Nonna's love is truly irreplaceable. Sending your regards to her! 🤗👵🏼🌟
