    One misconception i caught here was that Jupe's show wasn't popular. This was the first time he was doing the show in front of people. For the past 6 months he has been "training" the creature and feeding it horses, but this was the first time he was debuting the "act"

    It honestly wasn’t that hard to decipher. As soon as the horse kicked after being riled up by the film crew, I knew something was up. We’re introduced to Gordy at the very beginning, so early on we are supposed to be thinking about trained animals and their unpredictable nature. Once we realize that the aliens were being used as an attraction, it all clicks.

    Mentioned this in another comment, but the shoe standing up in the Gordy set is most likely just one of those “bad miracles” they mentioned in the film. Something so bizarre but not impossible that it helped Jupe fixate his attention on it instead of looking directly at Gordy’s eyes (which in hand probably saved his life and gave Jupe the wrong idea that he had a connection with animals).
    Thanks for the awesome review again!

      I thought the shoe pointing up was implying that something mysterious and unseen caused Gordy to snap, just like how the bug was on the camera lense for long enough so the ufo wouldnt be seen. I think there's a much deeper reason as to why Gordy freaked out.

      Oh, that's a good way to look at it. I saw it much simpler as The monkey was being controlled by the aliens hence why the shoe was standing up and the balloons were popping after they left the monkey went back to normal noticing what he did and was upset and took off his hat and hit the woman's shoe and that's also why he didn't attack the boy not because they had a "special bondage" or something but because he was no longer being controlled.

    Genuinely liked the idea of the “aliens” in this movie not being actual life size beings, but instead a giant singular organism that defies what we thought aliens would look like overall. I usually think abt random things that I don’t hear other people talking abt, and I always randomly think abt how we don’t actually know what aliens would look like or how they would communicate or even their true intentions. I like it how Jordan plays off of the alien ship ufo trope, but minus the small aliens. Which I feel like is implying that throughout history when we just see ufo ships, we are actually seeing the aliens themselves, which explains the lack of small alien footage, and the obtuse amount of ufo footage.

All executed really well. I also thought the images of people sliding through the ship's insides and hearing their screams was really scary. Lastly, Daniel Kaluya has some really expressive eyes. I think you missed some small things that hint to Jupe and the Alien. When he's doing his show and the alien comes up the audience starts taking out their phones to take photos. You can hear his wife start telling them to put their phones away. Also I believe he's been 1 on 1 with the beast for 6 months alone and it hasn't been around a crowd of people. Also, it doesn't take the horse because of the fake horse it at the ranch, that's why I believe it eats Jupe and everyone else because it's pissed off and feels threatened.

    • @Yodoggy9
      @Yodoggy9 Год назад +42

      You’re right in that he’s been alone with the beast for 6 months because OJ accidentally finds the stadium at night with lights blaring; he’s practicing for the show. Which means he hasn’t done an actual show yet, he’s essentially training the alien for when he decides to actually follow through with doing it.

    • @CallerID
      @CallerID Год назад +34

      I think the reason it didn’t take the horse is because the horse didn’t look up, and it also didn’t leave the pen. My belief is that it ate the crowd cause they where looking up and couldn’t take their eyes off of the alien making it angry, even jupe was standing there and staring.

I think the worst scene for me, (it wasn't the chimp scene), was the scene were Jupe is doing the show, and Jean Jacket comes out and sucks up everyone. The claustrophobia of the inside of the monster made me SICK. The scenes that are shot from the inside or mouth of the creature were the most unnerving. Mixed with the screams of the people BEGGING for help...that was the worst.

      I felt stupid after the movie. During that first scene of people getting sucked up in the creatures' esophagus, I had a thought in my subconscious kinda like.. I guess they can't beam people up but if they're sucking people up it sure looks like they're going through some abstract body part. What is going on here"
      It was terrifyingly claustrophobic and probably one of the scariest moments in the film. You just knew they were about to die because they knew they were about to die, horribly.

    I saw a comment about the shoe on a previous video. There is a saying “waiting for the other shoe to drop. Hence the OTHER shoe is the flying UFO that went around killing any one who looks up. It was bound to happen. Also another point in the movie, the young ricky (played by Steven Yuen) character in the movie, as a child on the set with Gordy you see the shoe standing up facing the sky. Gordy than sees young ricky and walks towards him. The only thing that saved him was the fact that he didn’t look him in the eye(there was a translucent green table cloth blocking their eyes.) so as he got older he has flash backs about the gruesome massacre and he profited off of it(the show room that he had in his office and his disfigured co star was at the show as well) he also thought he had a gift of (taming wild animals) but it back fired. I thinks it’s ironic that he lost his tv family AND his real family because of his naïveness and lack of common sense. No animal deserves to be show cased and treated as an
    object. The only sensible character was OJ (before his sister knew this is really a dangerous creature but still wanted the money shot.) OJ took care of the horses (hence the panicked in his voice when the reflection was shown to the horse and he almost decapitated the actor) You're only a predator if you intend to eat what you're looking at. Horses can easily tell the difference between a predator looking to eat and predator looking in curiosity and wonder. Horses do, however, struggle to understand the intention of a human who hides his eyes. The UFO Also felt like that and started to attack. The first person the UFO killed was the dad. The dad was curious and turned to the sky and an inanimate object sliced his eye. Another detailed that was interesting in the movie we see different balloons (the balloons that popped on the set that made Gordy go bazerk, the inflatable men and the big air balloon at the end of the of the movie.) The balloons were significant because the were signals for the animals. Gordy went off when the balloons popped, the dancing balloons deflated when the UFO was coming, and it makes since that balloons were important because they got the animals killed. (Gordy getting shot and the UFO swallowing the giant air man.) I feel like the massage was about the fabrication about Hollywood. Back to the beginning on how the crew and cast treated OJ they felt like it was pointless to have a horse training when all they was gonna do was add cgi. ( the red Xs on the horse). The main people in the film were people who were once somebody’s but now not really needed. (The famous show ricky was on, the ranch, the electronic store, and the photographer.) they had little recognition by different kinds of tragedies. ( the monkey massacre, OJ’s father dying, the video store not really needed, and the photographer who was clearly traumatized.) and my final theory, Towards the ending we see OJ has on a orange hoodie and his sister emerald has on a green shirt. ( we see a few times in the movie they stick to those colors.) The color orange represents warning(like a traffic cone or any construction signs) and green represents growth and renewal, being the color of spring and rebirth. (Another association is “getting the green light” to go ahead, giving it an association with taking action.) these colors represents the siblings perfectly, because emerald is vibrant, makes everything fun and is out going, While OJ is cautious, protective, and kinda shows insincerity. The final showdown we see they have on their colors but, the twist is they have on a little piece of the opposite sibling (emerald has on an orange bandanna, while her shirt has orange stripes on her each shoulder. OJ has on his infamous orange hoodie with green eyes on the back of them.)they had a little piece of them. OJ was outgoing and badass when he stood before the beast. And emerald was scared and cautious. This film was BRILLIANT and exciting. Jordan peele put an old style to this movie, slow at first and than going exciting towards the end. We had to really break down this film and really think about the details and the formality. ❤️

    I believe the reason that Jupiter didn’t have a bigger audience is because that could’ve been like an opening night to reveal his UFO act. When OJ spotted him late at night doing the show, I believe that was just a rehearsal. It probably took him 6 months to learn the habits of the creature and make sure the creature could come reveal itself on time, like clockwork. Almost like training it. This is also kinda backed up by him driving over to invite OJ and Emerald to the “New” family show on Friday AND the scene where he’s in the office with his wife before the show and his wife saying “Ok let’s rehearse it one more time”. And lastly, him and his wife being in shock when the creature shows up earlier than expected since it’s not what they rehearsed

    I am honestly amazed by how many people can’t grasp the whole Gordy connection. It sets up Jupe’s motivation to try and train a literal alien, and establishes his fatal flaw: trying to course correct his own trauma by monetizing it through similar scenarios, ie trying to control a wild animal/thing. What is less clear is how long Jupe knew about the alien, and how he even discovered it in the first place. I think more scenes establishing that would clear up the confusion about what Gordy has to do with the story.

      I've watched 4 breakdowns and none of them caught it yet for some reason🤦🏾‍♂️
      Jupe established some kind of covenant with the creature by sacrificing houses to it. Every Friday (the 6th day of the week) at 6pm for 6 months straight he fed the creature a horse at a specific time. 666. In ancient times idol worshippers were VERY METICULOUS with their religious ceremonies and sacrifices. One little screw up would anger the gods and bring ruin.
      The fake horse was seen by the creature as reneging on the covenant, so it consumed everyone and everything before the usually agreed upon time.
      Covenants in ancient times between humans and the gods were usually sealed with blood. This is symbolized by Jupiter fist bumping the chimp with the bloody hands. And the shoe suspended pointing upwards during the slaughter had a bloody print on it. OJ alluded to this when he said (paraphrasing) "so one of them just decided to come down from up there and check out what was going on down here".

  • @KantankerouslyK
    @KantankerouslyK Год назад +34

    Really enjoyed this movie! One thing I love about Peele's movies is they always give you plenty to chew on, even after the movie is done.
    My interpretation is that Gordy's story is a parallel of Jean Jacket's story.
    Both are wild animals that are trying to survive and cope in a place that isn't their natural habitat.
    Both are being exploited as spectacles by people who believe they know enough about how to handle them. They know the "rules" and therefore think they have it under control.
    Everyone involved (Cast/Crew/Even the Audience) are fully aware that this is a dangerous situation, being around Gordy/Jean Jacket, and still play along for the sake of spectacle. They also never acknowledge that they are also putting the animals in stressful situations or that they are endangering them as well.
    Something happens that triggers a reaction and makes it all spiral out of control, ending in tragedy. The popping of the balloons causes Gordy to freak out and attack everyone in the studio. Jean Jacket is hurting from swallowing something it shouldn't have, so when it gets looked at by all these people, it attacks the whole park.
    The survivors seek refuge and wait for "the shoe to drop". That seemingly inevitable moment where they'll become the next victim. The only reason they don't is that they don't look the aggressive animal in the eye and manage to hide long enough for it to pass. This was Jupiter hiding under the table with the table cloth blocking his eyes. OJ was in the truck, while Emerald and Angel were in the house as Jean Jacket bled everywhere and spat out all of its undigested contents.
    The creature does get agitated and keeps lashing out until it too gets "popped". Gordy's co-stars looking him in the eye and making sounds get him to keep lashing out, and eventually gets "popped" by police. Jean Jacket is also repeatedly antagonized by loud music and having people keep looking it in the eye, until it gets quite literally "popped" (ironically) by a balloon.
    And, even after the tragedy is all set and done, there are people still eager to profit and make an even bigger spectacle of it. Even by the survivors. Jupiter has a whole back room he charges fees for people to see and the whole incident was even played for laughs on SNL. And the ranchers aren't innocent either. Emerald risks so much just to get a clear snapshot of Jean Jacket before its death, which you know is going to be sold to the very media clamoring behind the police tape that have been so eager to report on the deaths of 40 people.
    It's a vicious cycle where nobody is entirely innocent. In the movie, everyone has their own justification for making this all such a spectacle. For Jupiter: Profit. For Emerald: Fame. For OJ: Sustaining his lifestyle. For Antlers: The Art. And even though Angel wants reassurance that they're doing this for the right reasons, he started doing all of this because he wasn't happy with his life and wanted to be part of something bigger.
    Also another thing I feel keeps getting overlooked is that people are animals too. All of us have emotions and all of us have a breaking point. Exploitation for entertainment is everywhere and it shouldn't get pushed to the point of tragedy before we start caring about the well-being of everyone involved.

A few more weeks to verify and start building the arena, then a few weeks to practice. So when he came to give him the flyer it was like a preview night for “friends and family” a soft opening. You can find a video of her, revealing her disfigured face, for the first time ever right here on RUclips, where she showed her face in an Oprah Winfrey interview. The biggest hint that the Gordy scene was based off of Travis the Chimp was how both chimps mauled a victims face, while the victim still survived, covering their disfigured appearance with a veiled hat. Did you know that the message in the beginning of the movie was the real theme of this movie because in the movie, it talks about Nahum 3:6 but the meaning and the background about it was a bit crazy and bizarre. So Peele made this movie to based on that message like a Bible verse to life in this movie. Here are the moments
    1. The bizarre spacecraft is the city called Nineveh because the spacecraft eats the living things and then spits it's out just like the city because Nahum talks about something spectacle or unusual about that city. The city is full of liars or sinners that leads everyone to death but something mysterious happened in the city. A city full of puddles of blood and deaths that are not explained. So the city eats or you enter the city and then it's spits it's out like someone came out of that city filled with blood.
    2. The characters are Nahum and Zephaniah because they saw the people in that city are very sinful but they never knew that when they got out from that city, it went suddenly mysteriously quiet in that city. They saw the city filled with blood of the city folk and they feel guilty for getting out of the city. Nahum thinks that God punish all the city folk that are sinners.
    3. In the beginning of the movie, that message means that all the sins or guiltiness will be thrown at you to make you sinful or cursed and then, to make you unusual to see like the spacecraft or the animal incidents doesn't like to be look at or controlled by someone or something.
    4. The themes of this movie is we can't unsee things that are spectacle or very unusual to us and the other theme is the obsession of using living things that considered to be tamed just like the spacecraft, the horse and the chimpanzee to entertain us or use for entertainment for purposes because it will take a big risk or sacrifice for things that are bit wild or spectacle or unusual. Some people think that if it is worth for taking a big risk or sacrifice for something else that considered to be tamed.
    5. The spacecraft is not a UFO, it is a alien entity that took a form of a jellyfish or a blanket of death of reality or a metaphor of spectacle.

    I believe Jupe was actually feeding the humans to the alien as well, because of you watch the scene of him “practicing” his show you see little objects go into the sky (humans) so I think Jupe was feeding the monster the horses and humans and that’s why the crowd wasnt as big because word wasnt getting out to the world.

    Good review. I just watched it and agree with a lot of what you had said. There's the scene where Steven gives the flyer to OJ, but he says it's his "brand new family show, opening this Friday". This is one of those movies you'll need to see multiple times to pick up more and more overlooked and subtle clues. I just happened to hear/notice Otis Sr/ Keith David say that the horse named "Ghost" is very territorial. Bad move (territoriality) with an also territorial alien. Ghost had a key 🔑 sticking out of his flesh. The alien MAY HAVE been trying to kill Ghost and accidentally killed Otis Sr. 🤔 Thoughts?

    • @g.saidso
      @g.saidso Год назад +5

      I think if the alien wanted to kill Ghost it would’ve just sucked it up, it had no reason to fear eating horses because at that point it had not eaten a fake horse; but at the same I agree with you because I don’t think Peele would have added that territorial dialogue for no reason. But shit I don’t even know man

    • @flegitb
      @flegitb Год назад +2

      I think the territorial part was dropping "waste" (the non-organic matter) to mark the territory near Ghost which just happened to be on Otis Sr. as well. Because the blood rain with all the crowd's items was definitely JJ marking the house as it's territory.

    • @Veryy_Victoriaa

      I don’t think the alien was trying to kill Ghost. I think they were caught up in the detritus the alien was spewing out. I think ghost being territorial was the literal key theme that tied into the motive of the alien. A bit on the nose maybe idk

    I digged the review! For me the movie didn't feel to long, the pacing felt good, the mainly slow burn moments was the suspense because some suspense got drown out to when it happen, it catches you off guard, for example when the Ship dropped the fake onto OJ truck it legitimately jump scared me because the suspense moment dragged out for the right amount of time. This is definitely a movie that needs to be watched I'd say twice in theaters then other times at home to full disgust it all.

    I really need to keep telling myself that when watching a film made by Jordan Peele you gotta watch it with an artist level of thinking in terms of what the message is.
    Get Out was all about things not being what they appeared to be.
    I think US was that everyone is connected in a way.
    And Nope was about being kinder to animals and to be more careful when training them. Sort of like a Dos and Donts lesson.

The "UFO" scenes gave me chills especially those poor people at the theme park that got ate up and turned into a bunch of "fruit punch" which I found quite disturbing and I loved the "UFO"'s true form honestly. The "aliens in the barn" had me thinking, already we're seeing them until it was just a bunch of kids playing a prank. Other than that, I'd definetly watch it again.

It’s just mind boggling to see how all our theories from the moment they released the trailer back on Super Bowl night just got completely shut down which I’m okay with. I had envisioned that we were actually gonna see aliens and at some point they were going to explain what they were doing on earth kinda like how the tethered woman gave an explanation for what was happening in “Us”. Now I really want to see a horror movie where it’s a mix of the gordy brutally killing his “co stars” scene and the raptors in the kitchen scene from Jurassic park.
    Like a movie where a wild animal that is being used for human gain (monetarily would make the most sense, or a metaphor could be used referring to money). All of a sudden one day, it breaks loose/snaps, I personally think it would be cool if like gordy it was seen as a trusted and “loved” part of the crew, with lots of “good memories” showing up in flashbacks making it more terrifying that someone you love can do have trouble things to you.
    Basically a movie with a realistic animal, not some monster, that is on a bloodlust rampage through a film set or industrial esc area, with a bunch of the people previously close to it, hiding and running for their lives.

The scene was VERY well executed, but when they reveal that it was a group of pranksters, my hope for the movie went down by 40% because they teased that scene so little in the trailers and I really wanted to see the aliens more.
