What’s your opinion on gr mouthpieces. As of now I use a Bach 5c, but I’m thinking about trying out some gr mouthpieces or maybe the Wayne Bergeron gr studio.

GR mouthpieces are great! They are expensive but worth the money in my opinion. I recommend trying them out before buying them. My first GR mouthpiece was GR65S, and now I play GR Wayne Bergeron Classic.
In my early years in university, I had at least 10 mouthpieces and switching depending on situations and what I wanted. I reduced the amount of switching and I gained more consistency.
When I decided to use GR Wayne Bergeron Studio, it took me a whole year to get used to it. I didn’t like it at all at first. But my obsession with Wayne Bergeron’s sound was so powerful, that I could somehow tolerate the long lasting adjusting period. It’s a very unique mouthpiece. The rim is thick, flat, and angled inwards a little bit, similar to some Schilke mouthpieces. (Which I’m not a fan of).
I remember switching between Yamaha Eric Miyashiro Lead mouthpiece and GR Wayne Bergeron Studio towards the end of my university years. I finally decides to stick with one mouthpiece (GR Wayne Bergeron Studio), and it was the best decision I made.
In the long run, the sound comes from your mind. Not as much from the equipment. As long as you know the exact sound you are after, it will eventually translate to your horn. The Bach 5C you have right now can sound very different depending on what you want to go for. In the same way that switching to GR Wayne Bergeron won’t make you sound like him. (I know... I was really disappointed when I figured that out).
I played on Bach 10 1/2 C for jazz playing for a while. I also played on Bach 3 (just 3, not 3C) which was super duper deep. Bach 3 was interesting because it gave me the fluffy sound when I played soft, but punch when I played hard. Now I use one for everything. (GR Wayne Bergeron Classic)
Trying mouthpieces out is one of the most eye opening things with trumpet playing. I discovered my first lead sound with a shallow cup from Curry Mouthpieces. I would say try as many as you can. Try all the extreme mouthpieces, super shallow, super deep, big, small, doesn’t matter! It will help you discover something new. Trying things out will help you solidify the sound you really want, and once you know the sound, stick with one mouthpiece!
