- Civil servants from Kemi Badenoch's team placed an ad in a magazine highlighting diverse role models, but left out their own leader. Despite Ms. Badenoch being one of only 14 ethnic minority Cabinet ministers in British history, the Department for Business and Trade failed to mention her in the recruitment advert featured in the Black History Month magazine.

You forgot to mention winners of the Nobel prize in hard sciences. To be clear hard sciences are physics, math, chemistry, biology, anatomy, and astronomy. In all the years the Nobel has been awarded not a single black has won one in the hard sciences. The only genetic defect that i'm aware of that only affects a certain colour of people is sickle cell disease...which i thought only affected black people.

As a white person who grew up in Africa, these Western black people make me laugh. I always wonder how many of them have ever set a foot in Africa and more so, would they?

This is all true just look at Africa. The history of Africa going back thousands of years. Such a great continent, they gave us the first man on the moon - black builders for Stonehedge , the greatest black queen of Egypt - Cleopatra. The greatest comedian ever - Lenny Henry. The best lawyer - David Lammy, the wisest politician Diane Abbot, the list is endless and if you look at black history - and ignore criminal records of course - they can fill their black famous people in history month without any struggles at all.

Reminds me of the omission of the composer George Lloyd from a BBC list of British composers the thought
worth celebrating. It says more about those who compile these lists than the suitability of their choices, let
alone the reasons!
Not being familiar with Lloyd's music I may not be the best person to comment, but from what I've read (and the little bits I've heard) George Lloyd composed in what might be called a traditional form, which whilst it plays nicely on the ear doesn't exactly move music forward in any meaningful way. Music has to evolve and change, otherwise we'd still be listening to plainsong and not much else.

much of that is instantly disposable in my own view and its lack of longevity is the proof. Check
popular music for example, and what are called "standards" nowadays. They last because they
are examples of what will always strike a responsive chord in the hearbeat (literally?) of swathes
of humanity here in the Western world. And also bear in mind that "Plainsong" and the rest have
lasted the test of time for the same reason. A composer friend, who writes in both the classical
and popular/dance music idioms, has a very descriptive turn of phrase for much of today's
classical music from those who cannot write a tune (a gift in itsself) to save their lives. He
calls it "Squeaky Door Music". Signing off here with another reference to Lloyd: try his "Symphonic
Mass" (Albany Records) conducted by the composer, and described by an esteemed music critic
from "Gramophone" magazine as one of the finest pieces of English choral writing of the

Anyone can be a carrier of sickle cell, but it's much more common in people from certain ethnic backgrounds.
In the UK, most people who carry the sickle cell trait have an African or Caribbean family background.

We have the same issues in Australia. Cannot get a real person to answer the phone in any of the public services. I have waited so long eg 40 minutes to a public service. Talk about Batshit bonkers Britain, Absolutely awful Australia too.
