Historically speaking, this monster started the first wrestling league. All those wrestling moves you see today were passed down throughout the centuries.
I found this entire movie ridiculous, including this creature when I was a kid, and couldn’t understand how they went from Conan the Barbarian to Conan the Destroyer...
It is still somewhat scary. Also, sure, some effects of this scene are outdated, but it is the same in Conan the Barbarian (like the awful Tulsa Doom transformation during the orgy or the cringy Valeria resurrection during the battle of the mounts). What I like in Conan the Destroyer is this movie has way more magic scenes than in Conan the Barbarian. Apparently Milius didn't have the balls to really put magic in his film, it was somewhat a shame!
@@ChatonJoyeux Honestly it does follow a lot of the same beats and themes as a Robert E. Howard story. It's an inferior movie to the CTB, but it's far better than the Jason Momoa Conan.
@@robwalsh9843 I agree on the last point. I haven’t read Howard’s novels yet so I wouldn’t know about that. Still, sad that Lorentis could not make the trilogy that was initially intended.
"Wizard it open". Wizard spits into the hands (to help with wizarding) and makes a movement that is ambiguous, one hand wizards up, one hand wizards down. No wonder it didn't work!
Funny because in the Conan universe lore both races repell and counters the others. The Barbarians tribes don't want to go to war with the Wizard Kinbdom becaus eof fear of spells and the Wizard Kingdom don't want to invade Barbarians land out of fear of their brute force. From time to time a rouge wizard or a rouge barbarian attempts to conquer each other and ends very badly lol.
I watched this movie once a week for years. We never had cable except for a few months so I watched the VHS. This movie is awesome, I can't find it for free anywhere.
I saw Conan the Barbarian & Conan the Destroyer 3x in the Theater when they were originally released & also purchased both films later on VHS. However ...on VHS I noticed the Conan & Togra fight scene in Destroyer had been edited to remove Togra's vastly superior Sword display after they both fell off their horses & continued fighting. I've never read anything regarding this "Edit" nor have watched any Arnold or Sven-Ole Thorsen interview that mentions it either. Regardless, as said ...Sven-Ole Thorsen's Sword skills really made Arnold look bad which I'm sure is the reason the "Edit" was done for Home media release.
He is not fighting Thoth Amon. This scene was taken from book #1. He is fighting the Red Priest, Nabonidus and his ape like pet named Thak. Conan did not have all those stupid companions. He entered the house of the Red Priest alone. In book 1 Conan is about 18 years old and is living as a thief. Later on he takes service as a mercenary in the armies of many different countries, rises through the ranks and becomes the king of Aquilonia by usurping the throne from king Numedides. I have read all 12 of the original books by Robert E. Howard. The movies don’t follow the story at all.
This bit legitimately scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. The actual story the scene is based on is kinda ridiculous, but primates, the Theory of Evolution, and humanity's connection to the former was still undiscovered country in the early 1900s.
@@We_Are_Borg_478 I think the story this scene referenced is "Rogues in the House," where Conan fights an ape-man in a red cape. A good portion of the story is given over to discussing whether the ape-man is closer to being a man or a gorilla. I won't spoil the conclusion--or how he got the red cape. But it's par for what people thought about gorillas and great apes in general until about Jane Goodall or so.
This comment section has some really stupid people in it. People that take the movie entirely too literally. People that think this four minute clip encapsulates the entire scene. Man this movie is something ridiculous. Even as a child I disliked this film. How could they go from a masterpiece like Conan the Barbarian to a piece of crap like this?
Conan the Barbarian didn’t make nearly as much money as the studio had hoped, due to its violence and R rating. So they went with a lighter, comedic tone for the sequel for a broader audience. In the end, the sequel made about the same anyway.
Gee, you got a large strong man who wields a 2 handed morning star, and you don't have hime "use a one time only key" to. open the door by smashing it into little pieces?!?!?!?!?!?
Interesting. Until I saw this video, I had forgotten just how incredibly stupid this movie is. "Conan the Barbarian" was brilliant, and this ... this was far less than a disappointment as a follow-up. It was an insult to the viewers and to the actors. Sad.
this was a really good seqaul even Siskel and Ebert said same. its good how they stook to comic book material and transporting Conan in to a Fantasy world.
i remember this movie more from being a kid and i love it, but the first movie is on a different level.
legit one of the best movies ever made 😤
This movie is great but everything about the first movie is perfect. From the entire cast to the music everything just is top notch.

I didn't know he was the giant German character in Raiders of the Lost Ark

“Early man and thot Ex-girlfriend fighting over a piece of jewelry (Colorized) 375 A.D.”
