My in-universe explanation is simply, McQueen miscounted, maybe he thought there were 42 at first, and in Cars 3 when he said it again you might say “by then he should’ve known there were 36” well yes, he did, he just said 42 cuz he was reciting what he said in Cars 1, simple as that
Fantastic video. It really puts us into perspective, knowing there was a time where we DIDN'T have full knowledge of the Cars 1 racers and sponsors. It seems almost foreign to us now since every racer and sponsor means so much to us in some way. Anyway, there's a possibility that these companies existed at one point, but are now just independent brands not sponsoring a Racer. Also, its interesting how I believe Darrel says there's "43 racers" at the start of the Florida 500, and something no one brings up is how when you take all 36 cars 1 racers, and add Jackson Storm (Igntr) and the 6 new Cars 3 stock car sponsors (Intersection, Combustr, Blinkr, Triple Dent, Carbon Cyber and SynerG), you get a grand total of 43! How cool is that?! God, I love these characters.
not only lightning says 43, pretty sure either Bob or Darrell said 42 or 43 at some point during cars 3 as well. You also got a thing called part-season entries, cars that only enter a handful, or even just 1 race throughout the season, which could also bump the number up. Teams like igntr also entered halfway through the season, so there's a ton of possibilities here
The number of racers does change between years. At the start of Cars 3, there's only 35 Cars. In some seasons, like 2024, there are 43 cars, and in 1956, there were 56 racers. It changes.
I'd say possibly, most are internet based sponsors but the internet was a thing in the 2000's so early versions of Blinkr for example, could have been like Myspace.
Just because there's only 36 parking spots for haulers doesn't mean teams and racer can't park in a different park of the track to participate. Just like in real life NASCAR not all teams can afford an actual hauler so they just use a pick up truck with a trailer or flatbed attached to them. Those other 7 racers could've crashed out of the race earlier, or they could've some of the new sponsors from cars 3. In addition to that some of them could've failed to qualify for the race or they were blocked because perhaps they were too slow and they didn't want extremely slow cars to hold off the front running championship contenders.
I saw that the number 65 was originally given to Lee Revkins (according to some concepts from the Art of Cars) before the five being replaced by the three being 63
I like to think that there is a 43 car Field, it would make some since considering the fact these racers didn't show up probably due to the fact they had no chance to win due to points. Plus if they go out ot their way to always mention 43, it's most likely that there is 7 missing racers that were just not in the race.
Keep in mind the sponsors aren't always the same as they change in real life through out the years, that's probably why some sponsors were replaced in cars 3 yet we know they still exist through easter eggs like fiber fuel on a bottle/can that we saw in mater's junkyard and other old sponsors in the end credits, so even if in the movies some sponsors we see on chick didn't have a racer, we have to keep in mind the fact that we have seen nothing from the piston cup from 1953 through 2005. So we can just assume some of those sponsors had racers in the past but decided to stop sponsoring a full vehicle since the bigger the logos are the more you pay, so it might just be brands making financial decisions, but they still exist somewhere just that not in the piston cup.
In NASCAR there is no limit on how many cars can enter a race but there are only 40 cars that make the race so if 43 cars entered only the 40 fastest would qualify. So in cars 43 cars could have entered the race but only 36 qualify. Another theory could be is that only 36 of 43 cars entered the dinico 400.
Incredibly interesting video ^^ love seeing old fandom history in general, hard to believe this was all like, 15 years ago lol The idea of more racers is interesting, I’d love to see someone do customs using the chick sponsors and teaser cars to make up the missing seven, even if it was ultimately just a continuity error I can see why this was such a discussed topic back then, it’s an interesting thing to speculate about lol ^^ I do wonder how many, if any of those take5aday members are still in the community today. It may be because RUclips and discord are way more prominent while forums and blogs have faded but it feels like now most members of the community are younger ones who grew up with the franchise whereas back then the online community was primarily parents or adults in general who got into it, it’s interesting to see how much changes over time Rambling like usual but great video as always ^^ was really interesting ^_^
I’ve wondered that as well, where are all of these take5 members now? Nobody even comments on their posts anymore, it’s kinda sad to look back at how it used to be a bustling community over there. We know that MEGAHEAT2008, the absolute Chad that was, sold off his stuff and left but where on earth are AppleFinatic and PirateDad...the world may never know
@@ttoyreviewsty he was an absolute chad lol Yeah it's sad, while doing the Kmart days video I looked through tons of posts with lots of discussions, and even when I lurked on there a lot back in 2012-2013 there was still a lot going on typically but now it's like a ghost town. Makes you wonder how many users just, lost interest or got out of the game entirely? Or are still around but just don't see a point in commenting there anymore. From what I can tell for it's entire history almost all the posts are done and the site is managed almost entirely by one guy. Compared to a decade ago where he'd have pics of cars and such before they even came out to now where case listings often don't even get posted till they're already out. I wonder if the site runner just isn't as into it anymore. Which is understandable after 15 years lol. Probably doesn't help it seems like instagram tends to be the most active place for cars collecting outside youtube or discord servers, and when you have people posting case listings the second info gets out and youtubers covering it and such, and a site people are likely to use generally there's less need for a dedicated blog or forum. Which is sad, it's definitely something I really feel like the internet has lost to time. Makes looking for info and sources for stuff a lot harder too now since it's often on private servers or instagram or another site type posts you need an account to be able to search for and stuff lol :p
I think the 65 is meant for Mac iCar. In the last scene The King passed him for 6th place and Mac iCar has the number 84 although the Piston Cup assigned him the number 65 owner points. And the number 84 owner points belongs to Davey Apex.
I think that this is a pretty easy problem to solve: In Cars lore, Lighting McQueen originally raced for a company called Smell Swell, but McQueen this happens before McQueen became a racer in The 2005 Piston Cup Season, so what gives? Well, I think that there is a subset of Piston Cup Sponsors, that get a racer, if a racer on The Piston Cup Season retires, and their sponsor chooses to not sponsor a new racer, a new company, depending on their racers stats will come up and get a new racer on the track, that's my theory on the subject matter, and McQueen just got used to saying his catchphrase with "1 Winner, 42 Losers" rather than "1 Winner, 35 Losers"
I think some of the missing sponsors were the ones that only started to appear when cars 3 came out. Here is my list of sponsors I think that are missing. (More then 7). 1. Blinkr #21 2. Probably overthinking it, but although NASCAR fields were 43 cars at the time, the number of full time drivers that compete all season float around the mid 30s with part time drivers filling the rest of the field. Maybe there were 43 cars entered in the opening race of the movie but only the full time piston cup racers were made as diecasts?
