    Fantastic piracy tutorials, thank you! Started ED with PS4 and didn't really know how to approach this play style. Also just bought a Python 😀...

    Great quality content you're making here sir. You deserve alot more subs. Elite is a painfully time consuming game at times, without doing RUclips videos!
    This is a great follow up to the other piracy tutorial.
    Been playing since preview on Xbox and never tried privacy, too busy killing pirates for cash!
    Gonna have to give it a bash.

      Hmm. I don't tend to use my big ships for piracy as they aren't very agile. Maybe a very lightweight Vette would be ok as these can be made quite nimble. A couple of people have commented about what I refer to as "shield tank piracy". Essentially sitting still and letting the mark pound on your shields while you quietly rob them. Stupid mechanic, but suitable for fat tub big 3 builds. Maybe a video on that would be good? Regardless, I'll be waiting for 2.4 as I don't want to make something and then find it's obsolete immediately!

    I have been doing this for a long time and it is where I have made most of my money from but it has always been in Anarchy systems. I thought about doing it in regular systems since the spawn rate for transport ships are a lot higher and have done it in Alliance space with great success. Not worrying about getting the over 25mil bounty on my head. Problem was the local cops would always show up and I would only get a few diamonds at a time which was still faster than the Anarchy systems since it spawned more ships. Will try this today and see how she goes.

      Just make sure you try a range of systems. Some spawn ships quickly and others really slowly. Damned if I can work out why because they often look identical on paper. If nothing is spawning, cut your losses and move on to the next system. Be ruthless! Even systems that have been good can cool down. LTT 15225 was great when I made the vid, recently it's not been so good. Lots of gunships, pythons and wings rather than lone Lacons. I suspect that the background simulation has recognised an uptick in piracy and so the ships are getting harder. Some of my other hunting grounds are now performing much better. All in all, this is a good and fun way to make money but it does require patience, practice, planning and time to get right. It's not a cash cow unless you put in the effort. That said, I've pocketed over 600M to date and made trade Elite through pirating. Have fun.

    Oh yeah, I am so trying this. Hey! I'm about to hear Anaconda rank (FINALLY! 500 hours!!!) do you think that it would be just as viable as the Python? Or no since it's lesser maneuverability and bulk?

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      I haven't tried an Anaconda myself. I suspect that the pitch rate will make it very difficult to get under the target and disable the power plant. Worth trying if you already have the ship. You'll need to get G5 dirty drives with a very good roll and then light weight every other module. A shield tank build is another less exciting option - see my other video. You'll need lots of limpets for a shield tank build because the extra travel distance really slows things down. The last option I can think of is to use a super penetrator rail gun from long range to snipe the PP. This method lets you hit the selected module from the front. I've never had much success with this myself. CMDR Na'Qan uses this method for PvP quite a lot. Here's a random video of his showing the tactic. Basically, by staying at long range you can make use of the very slight bit of gimbling (less than a degree) on "fixed" weapons to hit a specific module on your target. ruclips.net/video/PkOCZuTDrvg/видео.html

    Hey Mr B, when I search for systems on EDDB, the 'only populated systems' option is greyed out and can't be changed :c Any idea why?
    Anyway, great piracy vids, you encouraged me to give it a go!

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  6 лет назад

      Hmm, I'm getting the same. I wonder if they have changed things due to the high server loading that this type of query generates. I hope not!

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  6 лет назад

      Here is the EDDB website changelog. (eddb.io/api) Looks like we're stuck with populated systems due to the database exceeding 3GB. The search is still useful, but you'll need to also look in gal map.

  • @rickaroni
    @rickaroni 7 лет назад

    Can you give a few pointers on how to successfully snipe the power plant? Maybe I'm using the wrong weapons. I typically try to take out the shields, then use my pulse lasers to target the PP and attempt to disable it. It never works, the hull drops faster than the damage to the plant. Are my weapons too strong? Should I use a different weapon type? Target drives instead of plant? I'm also having some trouble getting into position to actually hit the PP (or at least where the gimbal shows it is). How can I more easily get a decent shot or 200 on the pp? I've never experiences FA off yet

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      Hi - you do need to get above or below the ship so that you have a good line of sight to the PP. Hits from the front will not damage it. Up or down thrust is the key. This takes quite a bit of practice which is why I described piracy as a late game activity. I'd suggest going to a relatively high population Anarchy system in Outbreak state and practising on the T9s at a convoy beacon. Not much profit as they will be hauling medicines or bio-waste but lots of targets to shoot at. Doesn't matter if you destroy them as you can just move on to the next victim! As it's an anarchy, the other ships wont bother you while you attack their friends. Once you've killed everything, just log out and back in and you'll have a whole host of new targets to plunder. I'm going to release a vid on this topic whenever I get the chance to edit the footage I've collected. Unlikely to be this weekend sadly.

    • @rickaroni
      @rickaroni 7 лет назад

      WiggyB I think my main issue with doing this upward and downward thrusting is I've typically got my pips in system to bolster my shields. Perhaps thrusting would be easier if I pipped up engines. I should also note that I'm in a python, so they are about as maneuverable as a dump truck.

    One question... why would mining ships carrying diamonds turn up in Agricultural systems?

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад +1

      I've never read or heard a good explanation as to why - question for the Devs I suppose. Elite logic at its best.

    • @cmdrterrorfirma4244
      @cmdrterrorfirma4244 7 лет назад

      HAhaha... yeah.. i am sure it is "elite logic"

    • @cmdrterrorfirma4244
      @cmdrterrorfirma4244 7 лет назад

      I mean really... couldnt they make it that cargo ships in Agricultural systems are carrying Onionhead... or food... and systems that are refinery industries would typically have cargo ships of ore.... high tech... computers... seems like that would... make sense?

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      That is the case in many other types of systems. Just not Agriculture with mining sites.

  • @ComdrStew
    @ComdrStew 7 лет назад

    WiggyB I have been doing this for awhile and I have always thought about a team piracy operation. Maybe a interdictor and a cargo ship working together someway. I have done this with team mining was always wondering if it would work with this.

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      I've been able to pirate quite successfully in an un-engineered Cobra III (video WIP), so a wing of small agile ships (eagles maybe) plus a T7 or T9 would definitely work.

    • @ComdrStew
      @ComdrStew 7 лет назад

      Had one more question. I was doing this last night in high security system it was surrounded by Anarchy sysyems it worked perfect but all the trading ships carried 30-40 diamonds in type 6 and 7s. In the Anarchy systems I was getting type 6 and 7s with 80-165 I did have to wait longer for them to spawn but overall time it was faster in the Anarchy system. Do the trade ships have more cargo in high populated sysyems? The system I was in had 1.9 billion population but had a lot of belts.

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      I'd love to say that I fully understand the BGS but sadly I don't. High populations do help, but these tend to be in large systems so ships can hide out of sensor range, cluttering the instance. If a system isn't dropping I just move on to another. I tend to pirate in both Anarchy systems and secure systems and go wherever the best spawn rate is that day.

    can you explain why you would want to find an agriculture economy?

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      I can tell you why - but I can't explain. For reasons known only to Fdev, mining ships in agriculture economies always carry low temperature diamonds. I've seen T9s with more than 200t and T7s with over 100t. You can sell these for 51k a tonne, so that's a lot of cash. Other types of economies spawn different items and are less profitable. As to the logic behind this... sorry can't explain it.

    • @mrsleepin1433
      @mrsleepin1433 7 лет назад

      well, i followed your methods, and was able to find diamonds on all vessels with mining lasers, in Frog, which is an industrial economy...yet i had no luck finding any mining ships in the agriculture economy system that i went to.

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      That's very interesting! Someone else mentioned industrial systems a week or so ago too. What's strange is that I've interdicted loads of ships across a range of systems and haven't found diamonds anywhere other than agricultural systems. Have I just missed industrial systems? It's entirely possible I suppose. Coincidentally, my long time favourite system LTT 15225 is an agricultural industrial system - does this get a two for one bonus? This could be very useful info going forward as my long term collection of agricultural systems seem to have really dried up since I started making pirate videos. I really struggled to make 16M last night.

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      Out of interest. Did the agricultural system have rings or asteroids?

    what ship is the best fun for piracy - clipper - python - cobra?

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад +2

      Love my Python. Large enough to make decent money but small enough to still be agile(ish). Cobra III is good, though small. Cobra IV is too slow without engineering. Asp Exp is pretty good, particularly when upgraded and engineered. I don't own a Clipper but other pirates really rate it.

    • @g-trooper3422
      @g-trooper3422 7 лет назад

      I went with a clipper seems legit.

    • @K1500Project
      @K1500Project 7 лет назад

      I watched Wiggy's previous videos and fitted my Python and it worked a treat. Plenty of cargo space and can run class 5 collector limpets. Only down point is it can be a bit cumbersome (even with engineering).
      I switched to a Clipper recently (once I'd gotten the hang of the piracy process) and it's good too. Much faster and more agile - down point is only class 3 collector limpets so a bit slower on the collection. Class 6 shield (so class 7 cargo) means a bit less tanky too.
      Used a pair of medium focused pulse lasers for power plant sniping on both builds.
      Both are good - I think I prefer the Clipper, but probably only because it oozes style :-)

    So like I'm sure like everyone else I just went to ltt 15225 to pirate. Didn't look into as to why but LTD prices are down from 51k to 43k as of last night. Still good profit to effort but like the man says search for your own system.

    • @WiggyB
      @WiggyB  7 лет назад

      I've got 12 or so systems that I cycle between. The LTD price is usually (not always) high when a system is in boom. LTT 15225 isn't at the moment so the price reverts to the 43k default. Having 12 good systems in my list usually means that I have 3 or 4 in boom to choose from.

      What I meant to say was that I hadn't taken the time to see as to if it was still in a boom. I'm currently looking for a new playground myself.
