  • Here's a metal cover of Midra's theme The Lord of Frenzied Flame! I used a very Doom-inspired soundscape for this one, with plenty of synths and some real low tuned guitars.
Played using my Jackson Modern Dinky 7 Evertune guitar in gold sparkle, and a few leads on the ESP LTD KHV Kirk Hammett sig.
Loved the Elden Ring DLC and all of the new OSTs!

Hey all! I've been quite busy adjusting to life with a newborn, but thought I'd put together something to celebrate reaching 10,000 subscribers - thank you all SO MUCH for being here!!! This is a cover of Midra's theme from the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree. As with most low-tuned metal tracks, this is going to sound much better on headphones :)
While finding time for music has been a little difficult, I was able to get through the DLC and was absolutely enamored by the whole Abyssal Woods and Midra's Manse areas (and the whole DLC, really) - but those two areas were very cosmic horror, very Bloodborne and totally up my alley. And Midra's theme stood out from a set of fantastic scores as well - so haunting and terrifying! Knew this would go well with a metal soundscape, and had some fun trying to get a Doom-like tone by stacking way too many free synths, EQs and effects together. Hope that guitar tone does the Mick Gordon chainsaw-sampled-thing justice! Also shoutouts to the Doom Eternal DLC composers as well, Andrew Hulshult and David Levy are legends at composing in this style.
Lastly, Midra's lore is so fascinating. As is tradition, FromSoftware have created a compelling story on just a handful of words from item descriptions. There's much to ramble on about regarding the backstory, but I'll keep it to my favourite music-related tidbit - the Merchant's song from the base game is sampled in Midra's OST. Y'know, they're the segregated group of people secluded underneath the golden capital whose suffering alone summoned the Frenzied Flame. I made sure to include that part in the cover (played on the V guitar, with a quick clip of one of the merchants from the Shunning Grounds). In the game's cut content, the song that the merchants play was meant to have been taught to them by Miquella to help keep the madness at bay - so it tracks that it would be included in Midra's theme as well, located in the DLC where Miquella has travelled to. Love how deep the connections go!
