    I won second in CALHOSA for BMD and HOSA has been amazing for networking at the international level. I just met the president of biorad and gave my opinions on lung cancer screening barriers to the US surgeon general (a HOSA alum). At my own school, I met the individual who made CRISPR. HOSA is like every other EC. If you half ass it it’s not going to do anything, but if you want to go hard into it, it’s great.

    Honestly think you just had bad teachers/bad school. Our teachers made sure it was student led and we had a ton of variety in speakers and events that people competed in. We didn’t have a ton compete but those that did placed well. Also take into account the people that actually want to compete in a career they want to pursue to get scholarships and build a resume (like myself). A lot of the categories are quite competitive. I competed in vet science all 4 years. Have learned a ton and have gained connections to people in my field.

    The elite Indian kid who is making fun of HOSA. I lived in a very rural area and a lot of the HOSA attendees do not want to become doctors. A majority of them want to become phlebotomists, LPN's or Medical Assistants. It is a big deal for the families there when the kid wins at HOSA and when the kid becomes a LPN or Medical Assistants. It might be an unusual school of thought for you but not everyone wants to do bsmd. Maybe in your school everyone wants to become a physician.

    So here is an example of the phrase.... "better to keep you mouth closed and be thought a fool, then to open you mouth and remove all doubt". This person has judged and entire organization based on his experience with obviously bad advisor who did not care and a school district that did not care either. My district pays for your membership fee, $25 whoa so expensive. they pay for our entry fee for competition, $35 whoa so expensive. There are literally, so many events for people interested in allied health. There is nursing, home health aide, nursing assistant, EMT, CPR, Physical therapy, biomedical, forensic science, and many more. yes they have leadership events, like public speaking, but they have so many more. Sorry your school did not how to properly run their HOSA chapter.

    I can understand how you can complain, but I think people who actually enjoy learning and participating in it care. Example: I spent around 3 months on pharmacology and learned plenty of new information I wouldn’t have learned if I hadn’t taken it. I don’t really see it as just a resume booster as it’s just a way to learn.

    Even at my school, though we don’t have HOSA (that’s saved for our sister school), we have these clubs called TSA and BPA which are very similar (and, likewise, very scuffed). As a current HOSA member and state officer candidate, HOSA is truly an amazing organization. As you can see, you probably didn’t have a good HOSA experience related to your chapter or advisor because if you devote your time to studying for HOSA and actually take it seriously, it will be benefiting not only for your medical skills, but your leadership skills. One thing I will say is that, yes, there are a few students who think HOSA is a great opportunity to skip class and school, but they obviously didn’t make it far. As for cheating, I have personally never experienced anyone who cheated or even members that were given the opportunity to. If you are interested in the health science career, HOSA is an amazing organization formed with a purpose to allow students to pursue their career goals and develop skills needed. Sorry that your HOSA experience was disappointing, but this doesn’t mean all of HOSA chapters are unfulfilling.

  • @uditsarkar2834
    @uditsarkar2834 Год назад +15

    I think this cheating thing only really happens in a handful of events; free-for-all events, like Medical Innovation, don't see this much at all. If anything, people could only fake parts of their innovation, but even that backfires because you're supposed to prove to the judges that it works completely as advertised since it's a designated section of the rubric worth 20% of your team's score. So to that extent, it still benefits those who are genuine -- my team was genuine and we placed 1st at both regionals and states over schools that dominate medical innovation. Last year, we were 2nd at ILC for another innovation that was just as genuine, so I'm hoping it stays that way

    • @Dandelionn728

    To be honest, most of the crowd in HOSA are competing because they want to skip school and choose an event where there's not much preparation. The crowd taking up pre-med is average, partly because there are no AP/DC classes for the healthcare field unlike AP comp sci or AP Chem or Physics. This leaves most truly passionate people unable to compete in hosa because they choose not to take a regular class. Personally, I took up HOSA in my freshman year because I thought it was a genuine club with all sorts of activities. I took up medical spelling and placed 2nd at Area. Going into the competition I realized the guidelines, rules, and crowd really wasn't as sophisticated or grand as I thought. There wasn't any crowd, audience, or systematic place for each event. It was very scattered and they had volunteers to judge events. One thing, if you want it to be a true competition, there should be less events so those events can at least be more focused and interesting.
    What you said about funding yourself is true to some extent, but my school funded going to ILC because we usually only have 1-5 members that actually make it. I didn't have to pay more than $200 going to state, but also my district was unable to fund some events, so idk about some schools.

    This man talking facts. For HOSA this year I did a biomedical debate. I read all the 3 references and memorized every single thing. The test was hella light as well. I swear to god I woulda gotten at least a 95. When the results came for the top 10 teams going to state, they were all from one school. Keep in mind my school only sent 1 team for the biomedical debate, how the hell did one school send 10 teams. We all know that that school be cheating the whole test. So useless, my school didn't even end up sending the people who made it to the state to the conference because they couldn't fund it, so there was no point in even doing it.

    I know in my state they send the first place winner to nationals and cover travel and hotel fees. We also do a lot more than compete. We also do multiple fundraisers and ask for sponsors to pay for us to go to conventions. I live in a small town but we usually give between 100-300 to anybody who places at regionals or state who will advance. We do this so parents aren’t completely footing the bill. Not everyone in Hosa wants to be a doctor. They have hundreds of competitions now. They have comps for people interested in pretty much anything medical. I’ve competed in 3 different comps and I’m a junior now. Hosa is so much more than just a money spender it’s a lifetime experience. Hosa has given me the opportunity to go to Washington for an internship on a scholarship. I will be studying medicine at a hospital and get to do hands on skills. Hosa has also had colleges reach out to me and ask to meet. I can also get scholarships for college now. It’s all thanks to Hosa.

    I got fully scammed in this competition for BiomedicalDebate and it is ridiculous how biased the judges were against my team. We beat the other team so easily and they didn't even follow the rubric correctly, however, the judges showed clear gender bias and allowed the opposing team to win. It disgusts me how I spent so much time and effort and took this competition seriously but unfortunately, the judges and event don't. I literally had to bomb some of my tests in my classes just to focus on this all to get out in the first round where i completely destroyed my opponents.
