JWs were never very popular in Ukraine, I’ve seen Krishnaits more often than Watch tower grandmas. Also after an attempted mass suicide by followers of Devi Maria Christ in downtown Kiev all cults became frown upon in the community.

I work with a JW. They used to have light in their eyes. 20 years later, they look tired. Older. Lost to their own guilt and fear of being shunned for having a thought outside of their cult.

I'm hearing stories about JWs who are not happy about the dress and grooming changes now. Showing up to church in jeans when you're expected to have a part of the worship maybe isn't great but otherwise shut up about it. When I quit the JWs I started going to a Catholic Church, one of only two in Western New York that did the mass in Latin, I thought it was super cool but everybody there dressed like they were at the park and it was no big deal, they weren't there to impress anybody or participate other than to receive communion.
They way they talk is just so robotic, it feels like this was something the aliens/government put on this earth to see which of us would fall for it. They are testing us.

This reminds me so much of my upbringing in a Baptist church. Especially the whole "war on apostates" thing. I even remember my brother trying to become a preacher and doing video sermons on here years ago, one of them being titled "call to arms" (didn't take long for him to delete it) and using all sorts of militarized language about what it means to be Christian and how we're always supposed to be fighting an unending war every second of every day. Why did I ever take that stuff so freaking seriously? After seeing some of these videos, I'm glad I was never drawn into the JW faith. It sounds exhausting to be that paranoid all the time.

Send them documentaries abot JW cult . So many in RUclips you can find, there are even debates or its history and then tell them that is your reason and you want to find your own faith and made a decision JW isn't it.
If they can't accept it, tell them to watch what you sent them so they can understand your decision.
They will be forced to watch what you sent them because they love you and maybe you can make them leave JW with those videos.

I left when I was 12, I didn’t announce anything about not believing out of the threats of “disassociation” (I was never baptized, that’s what they called the shunning of unbaptized people back then). I tried to fade out as quietly as possible, and that seems to work the best for JWs trying to leave at any age.
I wish you had the freedom to choose your beliefs, as every human should. 🖤

to declare that the governing body are the sole channel of communication, would be highly problematic, where the literature could be used to secure court defeats in various countries. the governing body member did not give a bold witness for this reason, as the world presently is frowning upon such assertions. it is true that nearly all religions spout this, but many nations are cracking down on religions that are intolerant of one another. i have experienced first hand, at a soup kitchen, where members of multiple beliefs worked together in the kitchen, to serve the homeless. this is how it should be.

My grandparents were witnesses. I went to a meeting with them a few times a I very distinctly remember seeing that verse and being shocked seeing the Bible just casually say "Yeah, this guy's a slave, and he's gonna get whipped. No problem here." That same meeting they sang about all being slaves. That was the last time I ever attended a witness meeting. And I've only been in one of their halls once since then for my Grandpa's memorial service

I'm at my mom's house which was my grandparents house and their old Watchtower books are here, i spent some time looking at them. I found a bunch of handwritten notes and even a talk written on an old postcard. My dad made sure all of us sat in the front row of the assemblies but I'm not sure Grandma and Grandpa really believed, i think it was just another church to them. A family thing. The whole jw experience is crazy but I've found that it's not all that different from other churches, just a lot more explicit and silly.
