    Fighting accusations of queerbaiting, Yungblud reveals the importance of respecting each other's sexual expression.
    Louis meets Dominic Harrison, aka singer and musician Yungblud, often regarded as one of the UK music scene's brightest stars.
    Louis joins Yungblud in the USA, on the last two nights of a whirlwind tour. Along the way, Louis meets fans who follow their hero with almost religious intensity, attracted to his brand of emotionally charged music.
    In a Paris hotel during the European leg of his tour, Louis and Yungblud sit down to discuss a range of topics, including his mental health, his sexuality and his response to outspoken critics.
    Louis also travels to Doncaster to spend time with Yungblud and his family, where they discuss his turbulent upbringing.
    Louis Theroux gets up close and personal with the UK's biggest stars in the way only he can. With exclusive access to poke about their lives, expect anything and everything.

    I began watching utterly dismissive of the lad, but I’m so glad I stuck with it. Regardless of the fact I’m also adhd (diagnosed at 50), I was won over by his passion and open heart. Needless to say, Louis was marvellous throughout. I appreciate when my middle age bias is turned on it’s head. Great tv

    I think sexuality is such a personally nuanced thing, like when people ask me mine I am sometimes lost as to what label best fits how I feel and who I am inside. If anyone feels like not labeling themselves or allowing others to label them, they should be allowed to. And any expression of their sexuality doesn't mean that's all they are or that they are limited by what society presumes them to be. I think part of what Dom is saying is that his sexuality is quite fluent and doesn't want a solid label because like my own sexuality, his changes over time. I get it completely.

This is wonderful to see as it's a departure from all the work we had to do from the 60s to the 2000s where the only visible alternative identity was just GAY MAN and barely anything more nuanced in mainstream queer culture.

      Maybe I'm old fashioned, and for me it's not about being mean. I just feel that if a queer person has a platform, then they should use that platform, as loudly and as vericiously as possible. I appreciate some people knew themselves to be gay very young but some of us had a lot of conflicting nonsense thrown at us (including from gay people) so it took some time to realize who we are, particularly if you aren’t monosexual. Hell, I have friends in their 30s/40s only now coming out or transitioning. And that’s as a private everyday citizen, I can’t imagine doing it in public under the scrutiny of the media and consumers with obsessive parasocial attachments. I think the landscape is very different now - sure blame corporations for exploiting queer audiences but attacking artists is unnecessary

    • @TMJW

      @K B I take your point, I had (and still to a degree have) similar concerns i.e. fuelling the conservative hate mob, but also I think maybe it is a natural part of sexuality/gender for some people. Maybe “change” is the wrong word, maybe “evolve” is better? Our understanding of sexuality and gender and relationships has broadened so much in just my lifetime, I think there’s still more to learn, humans are complex. If someone is bisexual in their youth but over time settles into an asexual/monosexual relationship later in life does that invalidate who they were before? I don’t know, I don’t think so… and not everyone’s life is that complicated, but there have always been outliers and I think it’s possible some people might be more malleable

    • @olzki
      @olzki Год назад

      @@TMJW of course it's mean, to bully anyone, regardless of how they identify. I just look at someone like Harry styles, who is happy to cross dress publicly, happy to flirt with boys publicly, happy to wave a pride flag around in public, but isn't happy coming out publicly because he knows it could harm his career (if he has anything to come out about). I think it's a little naive to compare a "teenager" to a teenaged celebrity; most teenagers dont have press agents, and publicists, and business analysts, advising them what to do to make the most coin. I also think it's naieve to believe it doesn't happen, when it has so many times in the past. I mean look at Beckham; happy to act a little fruity when it suited him, happy to claim allyship when it was profitable, now he's headed to Qatar to earn a fortune, and ignore how lgbtqia+ are treated there; some ally he turned out to be.

    I really don't understand this new 'queerbaiting' idea people have about artists. It feels like this anxty scarcity complex coming from young people who have little life experience. This idea that a singer has to be fully gay or fully straight to talk about certain themes, as if them singing is taking away from another, gayer person. It's silly to me, because we're seeing various gayer artists emerge now. Theres room at the top for all of it. And policing artists who are by definition experimental feels like the antithesis of everything we've been working towards for the last 70 years. The biggest example of this was when they came down on Billie Eilish for 'queerbaiting', when she was so clearly gay af! It's the same witch hunt mentality we had in the 2000s & before, disguised as social morality 😂

    • @Catsandcamera
      @Catsandcamera 2 месяца назад +1

      It's because they're using the word wrong. Queerbaiting can never be done by a real person. It's a term used to describe shows that make characters interact in a way that a lot of fans grab hold of and ship, but never follow through with making them anything but straight

    Why are people saying he’s queerbaiting when he said he’s pan sexual. Not to mention seeing this dude compared to someone liek Harry Styles and Charlie Pooth. I don’t see how you can say he’s queerbaiting. The other two idc what your opinion is or mine but I can see how but this dude it makes no sense. I wish people also talk about why people use the term queerbaiting and why people are very defensive about it. I feel like it’s a bigger issue than this. It seems from everything you can imagine. Especially being treated unfairly. It’s a crazy thing to think and learn about. So many different angles.
    To briefly say my opinion. No one is ordered to say what their sexuality is… but I think the only problem is how we come about showing it. I’m not gonna go into detail but it’s the grey area between expressing your self/sexuality, what you do and how you react to things about your sexuality, and how you normalize it to it being personal rather than a marketing tactic. Peoples main problem is straight men using gay people when it benefits them and not helping gay people out in return. Example is it’s now common for young straight men to “act gay/sus” mocking feminine gay people… yet they’re the main ones bullying, abusing, etc to gay people. It’s a grey area but people need to start being light with the word. This man doesn’t use it for marketing schemes or anything so idk why he’s in this topic.

      B/c society is telling him what they “KNOW” he is. Just like Shawn Mendes. Only certain ppl go through this. It’s so invasive and a comment about how somebody “fits in” or doesn’t from the world. Society merges gender expressions and sexuality all century long 🫥
