Hey all! Today I'm going to show you how @tama-hero and I played gen 3 online coop, and how @jimothygaming and I played versus battles in Pokemon XD! Emerald and all of gen 3 have tons of important multiplayer features limited by the fact that they're only local multiplayer. So unlock a world of new gameplay by using the internet :O

I remember checking in with my neighbor friend to ask what game she was getting before I would ask my parents for a Pokemon game. She got Ruby, so I asked for Sapphire. She got LeafGreen so I asked for FireRed. Getting those wireless adapters was AMAZING. We could *almost* play together from across the street from eachother! It was incredible back then to have multiplayer functionality without needing to use Link Cables. We spent hours playing together at eachother's houses. I wonder if she still plays pokemon?
You should've asked her out and maybe married her.
Heartwarming story, sure, but do you mean you played Fire Red and Leaf Green with her? Ruby and Sapphire are not supported by the Wireless Link adapters.

To add, the range of the wireless adapters is not that far; playing with someone across the street is literally a stretch.

I clicked, excited believing someone had created a GBA-to-USB cable (or a receiver for the GBA Wi-Fi adapter) and engineered a custom Warp Pipe-like protocol for it…
RetroArch's gpSP (GBA emulator) + retroarch's inbuilt netplay will also let you play co-op with gen 3 without seeing both player screens at the same time
But it's RetroArch, so it will be a buggy mess to keep running.
I have extensively tried retroarch with emerald and it's awful. It has never had a connection last for more than a few minutes, I could not recommend it at all.
I was testing it using a n2ds and pc, for local server it is not that bad, I was able to perform battles at union room, but when connecting to someone through internet the latency is very high and unstable which causes disconnections every time
@@imablisy This more than likely an issue with your router, I haven't had any issues playing emerald between Australia and the US. Does your router have QoS, more specifically DSCP and can manage the buffer flow with AQM
@ it’s definitely not, I’ve got a fully customizeable setup. I couldn’t even get the link to work on local connections.
I want to do this, BUUUUTTTT Parsec doesn't allow hosting on Linux after 5 years of requests for it.
You can be the guest on Linux just fine, you just can't host. And my friends are all Linux nerds lol.

4:27 About this, there's a version (older) of the thing that let's you use the keyboard while the window is not clicked on. I watched a video of some guy using it to shiny hunt (multiple windows of FRLG being controlled at the same time, same inputs, starter selection)

OMG I haven't watched Tamashii in SO MANY YEARS
I'll point out there's another way to do this if you're on android via the pizza boy emulator! The paid version has really good internet netplay so it'd be perfect to play the Gen 3 games online! I'm not sure if there's an ios equivalent but I think it might be delta? Regardless, this is still a good guide for pc!
Vba plug and play netplay used to be so close and now it feels like its so much further with parsec substituting

Quicker Solution: Play PokeMMO, the online Pokemon MMO with Emerald, FireRed, Platinum, Heartgold, and White all in one.

I played it a long time ago and got banned for having a script just press A at the game corner for me. I had no idea they made it so much worse with the microtransactions.

Also since this allows multiplayer over wifi, I need to ask if you two tested this with randomized savefiles where say movesets are unusual, abilities are randomized etc., so that they show that this can be done too or if this will cause major errors or whatnot?
this seems cool and for those seeking the feel of the actual game a welcome change.
but i gotta admit, all this setup and so on.... when you could just play these formats as easily in the span of minutes on showdown itself.

This is cool but I wish someone would create an emulator that has rooms for people to join and battle/trade. All of this is such a pain just to take gen3 online :/
It would be really cool if someone made some sort of Wi-Fi adapter that connected to a real GBA and allowed netplay. I think it would theoretically be possible.

i love your content bro but this seems like a lot of work when the visual boy link version 1.8 (can still find it online) has a working link feature built into in the emulator
What about if the host has 2 monitors, puts one mgba window on one and the other on the second monitor. The host only let's the client see the second monitor while also sleeps or just flip the monitor to not see it hahaha, that way you will be able to play against each other too

Hi! I think if you play battle facilities in coop you cant get any symbols and the scaling is different. Is there a cheat code or anything like it to change that? Would love to grind battle factory with my partner.
Idk if you know about Pokemon Chest, but you can back it up on a ds lite or ds with a r4 card

Do you know if there’s a Pokémon Bank/HOME-like process to store and move Pokémon between Gen 3 save files? I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on Pokémon Box
theres a ds homebrew app called pokemon chest which acts like pokemon box between gen 3-5 id look into it, either on a ds flashcart or dsi homebrew c:
afaik pkhex can save singular pokemon or whole pc boxes
dump your save and run box in emulator or run box through nintendont / swiss on a modded wii / gamecube respectively or just use pkhex
There is pokemon chest, a homebrew app for dsi/twilight menu, you can store and manage pokemon for gen 3 to 5, works like pksm for 3ds or pkhex for pc
Try "Trigger's PC", it was designed for that purpose. Just be careful if you're into glitches and ACE, I have a fuzzy memory of it not playing nice with my glitch pokemon (could be misremembering)

It’s been in their plans for years. The issue is how data transfer works. Link cable stuff is not easy to emulate. Any interruption basically results in a comm error.

@@imablisythere was one time a gba emulator that could link 2 games for battles it was called vba link.
Back in the day I did many online battles with that
@@Mrthedragonkiller Even Dolphin has connection errors where stuff will desync and error out within minutes. That is why they had to straight up include a GBA instance tied to core.
@@lpfan4491 oh yeah dude it's not a perfect system but it's magic that you can even try to do four swords or crystal Chronicles. I swear online working to battle on the other gba emu but this was years ago
Wondering if we could "hack" the tradeport on a GBA by capturing the data with a Arduino and sending it as a network packet to another Arduino connected to GBA tradeport, so we can play in real hardware and original cartridges over internet.
The trouble is that the games require extremely extremely low latency as they're expecting continuous info streaming down a short wire rather than chunks of info jumping across the world.
yuzu with the games injected into the gba app also works.
