    *SUMMARY*
    1. *Technology is distracting.* 0:50
    -Practice attention/time management: when you're in class/doing homework, fully focus (turn off notifications, take physical notes, use fullscreen). Learn things right the first time around.
    2. *Self-care.* 2:58
    -Find time in the day to do what makes you happy: go for a walk, cook, read a book, make fancy coffee. Use this to help you escape the mundanity.
    3. *Prioritize yourself.* 4:40
    -Constrained optimization: maximizing something, while given restraints.
    -Optimize your wellbeing first, while ensuring you keep a certain acceptable level of grades (not vice versa)
    -You are more than just a student.

    This man never changes. I feel like no matter what trials he goes through, no matter how difficult times gets, he is always actively taking care of himself and reminding others to do the same. That's pretty inspiring to me.

    • @LL-wu5ui
      @LL-wu5ui 3 года назад +7

      To be fair, you can never be sure of it. If you asked anyone for these tips - they would give you mostly the same question. We all know we need to turn off notifications while studying, we all know self care is important.... The key is in actually doing all these stuff. And you dont know if he is doing all of that and to what extent..... unless he is vlogging everyday, but even that can be staged.

    • @EmilyMGin
      @EmilyMGin 3 года назад +6

      @@LL-wu5ui @LL that's true, it totally could be all staged and he might not practice what he preaches at all. I wouldn't be surprised, thats more human and real anyway. I guess what I found noteworthy for me was that I generally don't put myself first especially since entering university, school is everything, and I started watching John fish at that time I entered 2-3 years ago. And this guy is constantly saying the same thing over and over again in these videos, its predictable and simple . But this time he actually looks like hes having a little bit of a hard time and hates how online school is, he honestly looks not that happy right now having all of his productivity preferences destroyed by online school. But he still went and adapted the same things as he has always said before to now. Wellbeing, mental health, you'll do better if you take care of yourself better, blah blah... But somehow I'm happy that he didn't change. Sometimes it's nice when things don't change, especially when so many things are.

    A friendly reminder to everyone (especially underclassmen in college) that this semester does not define your academic capabilities. I'm graduating this semester and I felt like a freshman again because I was taken so off guard because study skills I previously used didn't work for me in this setting anymore. If this semester didn't go as well as you planned, remember that you did the best you could given the circumstances and you can only learn and do better from here. Stay safe and healthy everyone!

    I have a lot more time that I don't have to waste getting to the lessons.
    I spend the saved time on what makes me happy and on getting enough sleep.

    "Person-to-person bonds and the Aloha personality engine:
    - when you spend ticks with someone, the NPC's neurons start to identify you
    - NPC starts to make a model of our behavior
    - while you act in novel way, your model is being built by NPC
    - at some point there happens a "crossover" - means that someone starts to expect you to do things in a way you have always done"

    And one last advice (at least it helped me) DO NOT WATCH this kind of video at night (3 am , 4 am and so on ) , you end up in a horrible cycle where you plan everything you are going to do tomorrow , and when tomorrow comes , you do nothing . The night comes and you start all over again. Watch this kind of video in a moment where you can actually put in practice new things in your life

    Hey John! THANKS A LOT!
    I just got into *IIT Bombay,* India's Best College for pursuing engineering. After preparing rigourously for 2.5yrs just to get into this college, I was too happy to join it... But since our semester is being held online, I was struggling a lot while studying at my dream college... Thanks a lot for this video...
    Love from INDIA!

    I definitely agree with how you described how we should do self-care. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the same as how other influencers do it. I’m guilty about it as I did the same before. In the end, I actually became more unproductive. Also, I would feel extremely disappointed of myself or feel unfulfilled instead if I’m not able to do them. After knowing that, I decided to stop. Not that the influencers way of doing it are wrong, its just that every individual is different. They have different hobbies, likes and dislikes, things familiar and unfamiliar to us and to our daily activities, etc. Rather than sticking to each and every activity that they do, selectively choose what works for you.
    Right now my self-care rituals include activities that actually make me feel happy intentionally or unintentionally. I would exercise, take more hours of sleep, paint, play with my siblings, or contact a friend.

    Currently, I'm at the worst part of the year. 7 exams in 3 weeks, while working 30h + 15 hours of tutoring.... is extremely exhausted. 5 more days to go, and the exams will be over. Maybe then I'll be less stressed out. I just have to survive 5 more days.

    I'm really considering the option of a 1 year break, honestly, I'd rather go for just a semester but given how my college manages the semesters It's either being out 1 year or keep going
    It's so frustrating because I'm only 3 semesters away from finishing my career; I wanna finish this as soon as possible but I also don't want to do all of my projects while being frustrated, angry, tired due to Online Classes
    What the f*ck should I do?!

      As a freshman in computer science, I totally agree! Im from Canada and we have approximately the same system as the one that you just described. This semester has been an absolute shit show and I really don't even recognize what i'm actually passionate about anymore! I'm thinking about switching over to Finance but the thing is that I can't really tell if I don't like C.S or if its simply the way that I am being thaught everything online. And if I were in your place, I would finish the last 3 semesters! You are almost done!

    Thanks for reminding me John, sometimes I really prioritize school that I stop enjoying my hobbies and my social relationships start suffering. At the end of the day I’m not happy at all. So, I need to remind myself that I am many things and not just a student.
