- TopTes recently sent me a moisture meter to try out. Today I’ll be unboxing it for the first time and going over a few of its features while testing the moisture content in some firewood. Ben, nice demo of the TopTes T-630. You are correct , the meter is a versatile and functional toolThat is not just limited to firewood but has other application for use around the home. I’ve a couple of videos on the TopTes meter. It appears to be a good unit. The unit I got is getting old and if you tested the same piece of wood 10 times you’d get 10 different readings.
Been enjoying your videos Bin! New to firewood production and starting to build my inventory. Just to my wife today I needed to get a moisture meter. Here’s the opportunity for one. Toptes looks like a good way to go

That is some neat functions in the TOPTES .... I don't think I've ever used moisture meter 🤷🏽♂️ not sure if I would know how to use one most of the time I give my firewood a year to dry out....
Yeah in my area most everything is good to go after a year. I just like to double check especially if it hasn’t been seasoned a year. Sometimes it will surprise you and be ready quicker depending on species and weather.
@@OGAOutdoors ya I totally agree with you... Just makes me wonder how quickly the wood out here in northern California can dry out especially in the summer times when we hit triple digits 🤔

Nice weather there, it was upper 50's and sunny here the past few days. The weather guys are talking 1 to 2 inches of snow here in Oregon this Monday night into Tuesday. Once I was in Chickamauga, Georgia a few years ago, my son in law took me fishing in February and it was 76 degrees that Thursday. Two days later on Saturday when we flew back home from Chattanooga, it started to snow at the airport a few flakes. After we flew away, later that night they got a couple inches of snow, so your 70 degree pre spring weather probably won't last. Good chance we will be in Fayettville, Tennessee in June to see my niece. You close by?
Yes they asked me to do the review and when it arrived there were two. Sounds like you guys travel a lot I haven’t flown in years and don’t plan to. Yeah I’m just a little over an hour from Fayetteville.
Like your videos. Just curious what firewood do you like the best for your personal use? This is my first season burning and I’m interested in what firewood to be on the look out for. Toptes.
Chris I’m not sure I have a favorite. The main thing no matter what the species just make sure it’s dry. Our weather varies so much it just depends. I like cherry it burns clean doesn’t leave a lot of coals. I like hickory too when it’s really cold and it leaves lots of coals. White oak is nice and of course I have to mention pine. I’m always having to get the fire back burning from a few coals nothing better to me than pine. It burns hot and fast but great if you just want a little fire. Hope this helps enjoy your weekend.
Very cool Ben, the Toptes meter would be nice to have. I never tested my wood, I just go by the weight of the pieces and clank sound tests. Glad to see you channel has reached the point that companies are taking notice.
Denny thanks for watching. The clank and weight method works well but the moisture meter gives a little insurance when dealing with customers.

I’m interested in the toptes I also have the general it’s only been used a couple times I’d like to test its accuracy against another general meter to see if there’s a continuing discrepancy

Ben the TOPTES brand of moisture meter is new to me. The TOPTES feature that stands out the most is the changing background light based on “sell” or “no sell” moisture content. Another good TOPTES feature is the save feature allowing the user to replace the piece of firewood back in the stack and then return to the TOPTES meter and see the saved moisture #. The best thing I’ve seen is the TopTes doesn’t have the annoying beep.

I'm interested in the Top Tes moisture meter. I have a really cheap one that just has lights next to a set number on the plastic cover. Doesn't go above 22%. I believe the Top Tes tells you the outside air temperature as well. Great video keep them coming.

On average how long does it take your oak, cherry and hickory to get to burning humidity %? Do you ever get any ash there?
A lot depends on when it’s cut. The moisture is really low when it’s cut in the winter. I may have time to cut a few more but spring is quickly approaching. Cherry seems to dry the quickest but most everything is ready in a year around here. I don’t get a lot of ash either. I had one guy drop off and he said it was ash but I’m not sure.
@@OGAOutdoors yea it’s about a years time around here. We have lots of ash here because of a beetle that is killing off the ash trees. I just finally finished up my last splitting for a few months until it starts to we get till June.
looks like on that TopTes- A is for Beech, spruce, larch, birch, cherry, walnut
B is for Oak, pine, maple, frakash, Douglas fir, eucalyptus. Not sure what the heck frakash is. I'd be interested in the meter I never got one. Thanks
