Interesting comparison, John. Woodworkers are supposed to check the moisture of their wood before working it to make sure it doesn't shrink and/or warp after the project is finished.

Moisture meters work by measuring the resistance to an electric current going thru the wood over a small distance, the pins are what applies the current in the wood. The resistance varies with the amount of moisture in the wood. The thing the meters must account for is that the resistance can change a little depending upon the species of wood, that’s why they have the different tree settings on the better meters to make them more accurate. The different chemicals in the wood, depending on the species, is the reason for the electrical resistance varying.
You’re spot on about who needs the meters most! If you’re buying and burning green wood you’re not getting the BTUs that are wasted turning the moisture in the wood to steam while it burns.

My way of thinking with these moisture meters, or just about any homeowner guage or tester, is that it's a close enough representation. They're not a super precise scientific machine. If a fella has 10 tire gauge or 10 thermometers, you'll probably get 10 different readings. You still have to pick one and trust that it's close enough.

Good video and job. I have a cheap one but it's all I need you don't have to set anything just stick it in the wood like your old one. The temp and humidity maybe good for solar dry kilt or other drying set ups. Take care be safe and well.

Mr. John the humidity reading of the ambient air is useful to you in the weight of your wood as to whether it's higher humidity, then the weight it has pickup from the surroundings ambient air.
Thus the lower the humidity the less it should weigh, but I'm sure that if you documented this reading along with everything else that you record.
You could do the averages based on average relative humidity year round.
While the C, and F reading are on the device is simple economics for the companies making devices that are used by everyone, but understand that we're probably the only ones using the method of measurement we use.
Everyone else uses the universal methods of measurements that we Americans for the most part refuse to advance up to, because it's in truth more accurate, are let's say goes to the smaller measurements from what I can see.
Same thing as to the multiple languages inside the manuals, but English is typically the first language in everything that I've seen.
So we all have to make allowances for others around the world, same as they have to for everyone else.
Are you can have a one sided attitude, and we end up in the shape we're in, and personally I'm tired of everyone wanting to destroy my way of life, are my grand children, are on down the family tree in the future having to go fight in a war.
Because someone has to force their religious beliefs upon someone else, are they want to control their country as a dictator or something of that nature.
So things change, and we have to change with them, or nothing will ever change for the better for everyone.
