Had one stuck yesterday had just enough room to drill a hole vertically in the front. I ran a punch through it, wrapped Chain around the punch, sprayed with w-d 40 then had my hydraulic lift pull on the chain. Hit the sleeve with a hammer at tension, and boom baby it came out. That was a project and a half to get it out of there and hope I don't have to again. I like the idea you had here and was about to do the same.
