Showing the close up of the needles helped to explain a lot. I repair denim so much that I forget to change my needles for other fabrics. Thank you for this first video!
I am sewing a pair of pants from stretch atm and I am using twin needles. It makes a great straight stitch that stretches. And I love the look of two paralell stitches
This was an excellent video. I have been sewing for 30 years and I am still afraid of sewing knits. This helped me understand a lot. Especially about the needles. Thank you!
Ah, I remember the struggle sewing knits, before I finally caved and got a serger 😅. The right needle and stitch and spray starch or a lightweight fusible interfacing, to prevent stretching, helps a lot, though!
Stephanie mentioned you in her latest video re: converting t-shirts into tank tops. That video was posted just today (Friday, 8/18). I watched that video short and then went to your video library. 😊@@DowntownTailoring
I love knits to make and wear. My problem is whenever I sew knits my machine skips stitches. I put cellophane tape on the bottom of the foot creating a smaller hole in it and it stops skipping it only until it comes off. Is there a special foot for knots? I love this channel!❤️
Thank you for this video! It's so clear and helpful for me (like all your other videos that I've seen so far). I'm so happy I discovered your channel and I hope you never stop teaching us!! I need you! :D
Saving this! I used a combination of knits and woven fabric to make my son’s last Halloween costume. This included an unexpected “oh crap I need to replace the sleeves and don’t have enough scrap knit to do it!” I was able to compensate by adding a square gusset in the armpit. (I used to read a lot of SCA clothing tutorials for historical garments, particularly chemises and gowns.) Can you include in another video how to ease together a knit and a woven fabric? I have a woven skirt with a stretchy, crochet type waist, that I want to shorten from the top. I’ve got an idea of how to do it, but I’m still a bit nervous about following through!
Thanks for this video. Looking forward to the rest of this series. I really want to learn to sew knits more confidently, this will be a great help! ...I really want a serger...and someone to teach me how to use a serger. Sigh. 😄
@@madeleineschwarrtz7433 I’ve never noticed any discoloration. The starch is designed for use on fabrics, has been around for decades, and there is no disclaimer on the package, so it should be safe. Maybe you could starch small swatches and let them sit for several days or weeks, then rinse out the starch.
Thank you for these tips. Will I be able to use the same principle on an industrial straight stitch machine (Juki 7000A)? Could I stretch the fabric slightly using the correct needle? I have mostly viscose lycra and brushed DTY fabrics. Thank you again.
I am trying to replace a zipper in a knit/spandex sweatshirt....it has a facing....I have way too many puckers... Do you have a hack for this job that will make my life easier... I.am.at wits end!!!! TIA Madeleine
Hi Madeleine Yes. You can try to use interfacing. And then, in top of that, you can make a stay stitch right beside where you are going to stitch your zipper. Don’t pull the fabric as you sew. Good luck 🤞🤞🤞

Oh it’s my pleasure! It’s easy to forget about their structure but it helps a lot!
I tried to work with simili leather fabric with the wrong needle that went wrong ! It just needed a jersey needle and all was ok😂
Thank you again for another great video. I will be fixing leggings and this time looking for the correct needle. 😊 💕💃🏻
This is exactly the video I needed! I'm hemming several knit-fabric dresses. You've given me the confidence to keep going!
Go for it!
This video might help you too.

Oh yes! The parallel stitches look amazing!
Your knit model looks amazing as always ;-) Daring colours complementing the skin tone! Cheers for the smile!
Thanks! 🥰🥰🥰
Your explanations are the clearest and have literally helped me the most
Thank you so much Grecia! 😁😁
This was an excellent video. I have been sewing for 30 years and I am still afraid of sewing knits. This helped me understand a lot. Especially about the needles. Thank you!
Thank you for imparting your knowledge! Now I know the diff between knits and everything else.
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching 🥰
Great examples & demonstrations! Thank you! I definitely gave this a like :)
Awesome, thank you! 😊
I always use zigzag with knits. Thank you so much for the additional info - Especially with the needles!
My pleasure! I'll have more next week! 🥰
Thank you! I learn so much from you. 🤗
I'm so glad! 🥰🥰🥰
Learned to reduce size of a knit pattern the hard way today, wish I had seen this first! Thank you this is golden ❤

Hi! Try using masking tape instead of foil. And don't forget to use ball point needles.

Good luck! 😊
That was great, thank you - just what I need to be aware of after my previous attempts 🤔🤦♀️🙂

Any time! 🥰🥰🥰
I'm a fan of tiny zigzags or using my serger for knit materials. I always have to do a search to see what stitch is best though.
Yes, I didn’t have the time to mention all, but tiny zigzag and lighting bolt are great options. Cheers 🥰
Love your videos thank you. Can you do a video on coat zipper with snaps. When you don't have the snaps to replace
Thanks. There's a few tricks you can do, but it always would be better to replace the snaps. I'm going to write down this request. Cheers 😊
Those snaps are the death of me. Ugh.
thank you this helped so much! especially the comparison between the needle points!
Glad it was helpful!

Great video. Great information. . I didn't know about the super stretch needle. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much 🥰
I love my serger, but now I want a cover stitch machine for hemming 😂😬$$$$$
I use spray starch and liquid starch, depending on the fabric.
I think starch is way better! 😊
Starching is soooo helpful!
I love spray starch. Makes so many sewing projects go smoother!
I have blackspakex/knot fabric...will.startch discolor the fabric?
I don't have any scraps...uts an alteration job that is driving me nuts!!

Love this! I do feel more confident. :)
I'm so glad! Wonderful!
Interesting because I made mask in woven and from there my sewing journey began with knits.
If you lived in my neighborhood, I'd visit you often and bring you tons of business!
