Ah, I wish we'd had youtube when I started sewing 20 years ago...I avoided jersey fabric for years (till I could afford a serger...) - now everyone just about everywhere can get all the information they need. I still marvel at it sometimes!

This is a great video, I haven't been sewing regularly for a really long time, thank you for your concise presentation.
Not just helpful, you covered pretty well ALL of the basics in one short video! Rock on!!
Glad it was helpful!
One of the best "sewing tip" videos I've seen! Every point was useful, and there was no wasted time with extra chatter. Thank you for making such an excellent video.
I am new to sewing and my machine eats everything lol im so glad i found you coz i was going crazy ... thanks for the tips :D
Loved this no-nonsense, no-waffle, perfectly paced, very informative, well-presented Tutorial. Thank you so much xxx
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching!
I nominate this vid as the most helpful how to handle knits on RUclips. I’ve been browsing all day so I feel quite qualified to make this nomination. 👍🏾
I have been a quilter for a hundred years and only now started sewing on knits. You are saving my life! Such simple and great hints. Thanks!
3:53 Yep! Oh my gosh I wish I had this video 43 years ago when I first started sewing!
I just started sewing. I’d love your tutorials simple but not condescending informative but not overloading and very easy to pause and take notes on all of your tips and tricks thank you keep them coming. I think we’re gonna be friends :-)
Omg, I laughed SOOO HARD when you called the serger a “bucket of crazy” with the horns and tail. 😂😂😂 Too funny.
This was an excellent tutorial! Feeling brave enough to give knits a try now!
Serger = bucket-of-crazy...HAHA so true! and slow as molasses uphill. Love it! You are a seamstress after my own heart. Thank you for these tips. Most I learn "back in the olden days" when learning to sew as a kid from my mom [1961-ish], but with "modern" fibers, notions & time-saving shortcuts, sewing is much less painful/tedious than ever. But it is not cheap.
I've been sewing quilts for 20 years and now I'm trying knits again. Machines and fabrics have changed a lot and I was so frustrated with the lack of info on which stitch to use with knits on my new mid range machine. I spent hours, yes, hours online after my "manual" was mum on the topic. I'm so glad I found you! Best info! Thanks!
Thank you! I've been sewing a long time, but every time I've tried to jump into a simple knit project, it's cause to all my stress, haha. I want to make a pair of leggings and will definitely use your video to help with pointers in doing so!
UNBELIEVABLE !!! Never knew that my sewing machine had these stitches! Always stayed away from stretch materials! Invaluable information!!! Thank you so very much, Sara!!!!!
You've answered all the issues I was having with my stretch fabric issue. Thank you :)
I've watched a few tutorials on knit fabrics. Yours was very informative, with information I can really use. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad it was helpful!
Completely agree, this is a good tutorial!
I NEEDED THIS! Thank you! I was going crazy trying to get my fabric smooth enough to lay out my pattern.
Excellent video! I had been shy about working with knits, though there was so much I wanted to do, and I didn't want to buy a surger. Thanks so much, for this, especially the breakdown of the different types of knits, the importance of planning for the garment stretch, and the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of sitiches. I am now very excited about tackling knits, and will probably use this video as a reference.
Oh my gosh, I've looked at a number of somewhat inadequate tutorials, but this one is competent and has some breadth of information!
This was extremely helpful. Great idea about the muslin fabric on the table. It's a simple solution but I didn't even think to do it. Lol.
Thank you! Totally explains why my maxi skirt had issues with bunching and seam breakage! You are awesome! Thanks for sharing!!!
THANK YOU!! I can’t tell you how many videos I’ve watched trying to learn how to sew Jersey knits better. This is the only one that went over every single specific question I had. And hand basting before machine sewing curves? Genius. I can’t wait to try my project now.
This is wonderful! I have been mapping out making my first swim suit for weeks now! (Beginner) This was very helpful, and I've been researching!
Glad to know that someone else uses starch for knits. I also use it in slippery fabrics such as chiffon. Works wonders.
I'm glad I found this video! I've been trying to sew some REALLY stretchy velveteen fabric in my latest project and it's been a disaster. All I can say is I am thankful to have a seam ripper! lol Thanks for the tips.
Excellent tips, love the stable weights..really , good thinking...use what you have
Knit newbie here. Thanks for the tips!
you have saved my life today. now I can confidently complete with what I have started and have a professional finished look project.
Thanks for the information. I just finished cutting out a simple T-shirt pattern and was wondering about all that was presented - needles, settings, etc., now I feel more confident!
i am glad to learn your tricks.. i successfully made a pants from 4 direction knit fabric.. thank you😊
Thank you for a thorough explanation of the different types of stitches, and stabilising methods.
I've been searching EVERYWHERE to try and find a way to keep my machine from eating my fabric!!! THANK YOU!!!! literally so excited!!!!
I have always fought with knits. This will help a lot. I have never seen a better explanation of all the issues and how to work with them. Now to make some cute out fits for my granddaughter and dust off the serger.
Knits are intimidating for many of us. It took me years to fully embrace them, but I will never go back! I hope you enjoy sewing outfits for your granddaughter!
Thank you. This just saved me heartbreak on my first sewing project.
Really helpful video! I’ve been too scared to use some cotton knit fabric that I bought for a dress (scared about stretching the side seams) so this has given me more confidence. Thank you.
You are truly a marvel. You get to the point and have excellent examples. Thank so much!
Best video re knits. Love the muslin tip, THE STRETCHY TAPE, WOW! Have mainly sewn wovens all my life...
I agree this is the best video out there on knits. To the point and full of all the info anyone could need. 👍🏾
I just found your video doing a search spandex fabric and it has been very helpful, I learned so much in just simple 9min super informative video, you are great at explaining. I am going to adventure in trying to do appliques on spandex fabrics for a crazy and kinda challenging costume I came out with for Halloween, and now I know what to expect and specially how "not to" damage the fabric. THANK YOUS so much!!!
I am 2 and a half mins thru this video and I am learning so much! Thank you! Subscribed! :)

This was great! I was looking for how to get my machine to stop eating my knit. The whole video was great though. Thank you 🙏
Omg i struggeled for like half an hour. My sigsag was weird and everything looked like shit and i didnt want that stich for the hem cause it looks ugly, yes offence. I would have never guessed the triple stich was streachy. Thank you thank you thank youuuuu. I HATE looking at tutorials cause its usually such a simple thing to explain but the video is like 30 min like why😭. This was down to the point. And now i dont have to cry anymore thank you fr. If only I'd found you two days ago! My "easy, fast, pants" could be the "Don't" example for everything you've just done correctly. :- ) Next time, I'll know what to do - thank you!
An excellent and concise introduction to sewing with knits. Thank you.
This was so helpful I cannot wait to give it a try!
Wow, what I don't know about sewing could fill volumes! Thanks for this, I never would have thought to use Ball point needles AND I have a bunch of brand new needles of every sort and style that came in a huge cookie tin notions I picked up at a yard sale for next to nothing!
It really would have sucked if I did this project and then found out I should have changed my needle and to not use the straight stitch I was going to use with the presser foot tension right where it is! 😨😳😭😭😭😭😵
This is not the first time you've saved me!
Thank you!
I learned so much with this tutorial. Great tips. I appreciate your instructions!!!!! Thanks .
I need you in my life. Great video.
Love you!!
Incredibly helpful - thank you so much!!

Thank you, Sarah. Great tute.
Love it !!!! Thank you so much for your information! I learned a lot 🤓
Excellent video!!!
I am a beginner at sewing, though I did some years back. I love all your video's, you have a way of making the subject interesting and you have an appealing voice. Done with complements. This video is great, I have just started with Microfleece and the density is testing my resolve and my Janome J-318. I have settled for Sharp needles as no other would pierce - basting by hand tricky pieces. The Walking Foot and I are still a work in progress. Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad our videos have been helpful - good luck with your microfleece project !!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for this informative video.
