Ruth honored her mother-in-law and because of this God blessed Ruth to be in the lineage of Christ. Which shows us that God delights when we treat all family members including in-laws with kindness and respect. Naomi many have been bitter and angry concerning the deaths of her husband and two sons, but Ruth's kindness to her softened her hardened heart. Ruth treated Naomi as if she was her natural mother. Which is the blessing promised in the 4th Commandment: "Honor thy father and mother that it may go well with thee and thy life long." In-laws might be difficult yet love and kindness to them may change them.
RUTH 1:16 And RUTH said, Intreat ME not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou GOEST, I will GO; and where thou LODGEST, I will LODGE: thy PEOPLE shall be my PEOPLE, and thy GOD my GOD
2023 I’m blessed to have come across this video… I had just read Ruth but still lacked understanding of it… so thank you so much for this assistance in interpretation. Indeed God is Good and we need to put our trust in him at all times and in every circumstance. Shalom
I, too, have just read Ruth for the first time. The idea, that in every interaction we have, we are influencing lives hundreds of years from now, is inspiring.
GOD uses RUTH to let all the people knows in the whole Universe that even the LORD JESUS YESHUA the Son of GOD and HE even JEHOVAH ELOHIM the GOD as the Word from the Beginning ( THE SPIRIT ) is the GOD of Israel , but HE is also the GOD of the Greeks and the Gentiles ...* HE is the Almighty GOD of All the Creator ! JOHN 3 : 16 * For GOD so Loved the World , that HE gave His only Begotten Son , For whosoever BELIEVES in Him shall not perish , but have Eternal Life ! The Almighty Father GOD just want us all to follow His Son JESUS CHRIST of Nazareth , The GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to be a BELIEVERS ..that is all what HE wants ! Ref. Verse ( John 1 : 1 ../ John 10 : 30 ../ John 14 : 6 ../ Philippians 2 : 6-11 ../ Isaiah 43 : 3../ Isaiah 45 : 5 ../ Revelation 22 : 13 . So does god love Esau and u other nations?? Psalms 83:1-6 [1](A Song or Psalm of Asaph.) Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. [2]For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. [3]They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. [4]They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. [5]For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: [6]The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
If Ruth (a Moabite) was part of God's plan, why did he order his people to utterly destroy the Moabites and show no mercy to them, and not make marriages with them and prohibit them from entering the congregation of the Lord forever (Deut 7:2-3 ad 23:3)?
I would suggest reading some commentaries on both passages. Blueletterbible.com is a good source to start with. However if you notice in Ruth 1:16, Ruth converts to Judaism first " your people will be my people" and then claims (Israel's) God as her God. This book was written during the time of the judges (Ruth 1:1), so Israel is still at tensions with moab even to the point of hating them. This story of ruth could share how God even works in those whom we least expect it.( this could be the point of view for the original audience and today's society). He is calling all of us by his provienient grace and from that we respond. I am not sure if this helps any so please please read commentaries from scholars to illustrate the truth behind the passages.
Car Melo, you got a double grace reply! Hope you read those... Let The Most High blow your mind and mental boxes and your IQ... He Loves you and He IS GOOD. Yes, the Bible (His Inspired written word is challenging-so is becoming an adult...but, as we grow up, we Trust...we (hopefully :) ) have less temper tantrums...and then we find there are VERY GOOD reasons for things which seemed like a paradox or what we couldn’t understand... Blessings in Christ Jesus. He Lives (Yahshua of Nazareth, walked the earth 2000 years ago, Did miracles, lived a perfect Life, was crucified, died and was buried...rose again, is ascended to Heaven...seared at The Roght hand of The Most High...He’s coming again to judge the living and the dead...He IS The Way, The Truth, The Light; no one comes unto The Father except through Him” (And that’s good because He is Truth AND GRACE!!!!!)

"The teacher is always silent, during the exam." I GOT CHILLS when he said this. Thank you!!!!!!!!
Only 4 chapters in the Book of Ruth but many deep truths in it. God is fully in control of our life circumstances. Trust Him.
Even in the old testament, God was choosing and helping gentiles. Ruth is not the only example. Praise God.

[1](A Song or Psalm of Asaph.) Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
[2]For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
[3]They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
[4]They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
[5]For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:
[6]The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
wow that's very encouraging story.
