@@shohelihossain8121I agree on med school and any study that saves lives like nursing for example. Only selfless occupations should be rewarded with free education! The rest can pay for themselves or use grants if they qualify
How refreshing to listen to a positive reality story. God Bless Mrs.Gottesmam and I am very happy for all the students. What a great weight of their family’s shoulders. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏
This is one of the clips I have ever watched man😢. I wish all the people were such kind hearted and philanthropic in this world full of hate and despair. Thank you to Mrs Ruth gottesman and this was really inspiring.
Ms. Gottesman's gesture is priceless. No dictionary carries enough and suitable words to praise the height of this lady. What a beautiful sole She's. ❤ After food, shelter and health facilities its only Education which is needed to nurture a healthy, vibrant and prosperous society. Ms. Ruth has done her part wonderfully and at the same time she tabled a big big question for the Government who chopping away massive amount of hard earned tax payers money but, in return, giving out less than a peanut to the nation. What a pity. 😓
She knows that it does not profit a person if one gains the whole world but will loses one’s soul! Wise woman, generous woman, blessed woman and kind woman too! Rich people all over the world - hope they will also follow suit and help in such generous actions that’ll stir a mass movement of giving / paying it forward
What a difference THEY'VE made. That man was a Billionaire. And he sat on it. No yachts. No football clubs. No School vanity. Good on both of them and Congratulations to all those hard working students
I'm sure they were already very wealthy, but I heard that even Dr. Gottesman was surprised at the amount her husband left her. That's hiding money from your wife in the best possible way!
In my country, Iran, 45 years ago, all university students could go to university without paying tuition fees, and they even received a scholarship every month. High-ranking students went to foreign universities with government grants. they did not need donation to cover their expenses and returned to Iran after completing their studies and were given important jobs. But now even elementary school students have to pay a lot of money to study 45 years ago, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi was the king of Iran
Considering an attendance of 1200 students for 4 years each, at a cost of $59,000 per year - $1B covers 3.5 years of free tuition. I hope they negotiated the tuition cost before she made the donations. God bless her
Money makes money; it is for perpetuity from what I get from the reporting. This means that they need to grow the fortune with 100mil per year to keep it at 1 billion.
In 15 seconds, Dr. Gottesman vaporized between $200,000 - $250,000 of medical school debt for thousands of future medical students at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
I wonder if the irony of this is lost on people, that her charity is a manifestation of the dysfunciton of Americal culture and public policy. Access to education in the USA, a means to better society and it's members, is often accomplished or increased though the uncertain whims and selectivity of charity rather than public policy. In most other developed countries, higher education is largely paid by government through taxes, for the benefit of all or most. The same can be said of health care. And when it comes to diginified retirement in the USA, it is at the whims of an employer and or stockmarket. This is no different than tipping. Underpay employees so that their incomes are subsidized by the whims of customers' tips.
That's the kind of philanthropy we need to see from many more of the obscenely rich. They can surely afford to give back a little to the country that has enabled them to skim the cream and more than their fair share off our capitalist economy. We will need many, many more doctors as old folks like me begin to need more medical care.
We don't need philanthropy, we need public policies that prioritize education and the public financing of it through taxes. Philanthropy is descriminatory and whimsical as it was in this case. Descrimination and whimsy is not a way to run a country. I know this is pie-in-the-sky wishing, but so is philanthropy.
Feckin brilliant. We shouldn't depend on the largesse of billionaires to be able to meet society's needs, but the genuine philanthropy of a good-hearted individual can change hundreds of lives directly, and thousands indirectly. Bless this lovely lady.
It's a great initiative towards a better future. These resident doctors can actually use the profession to what it actually is meant to be , to try and save as much as lives as possible without having a mental burden to run behind money to close off their student loans...
I know this was a rhetorical question, but you prompted me to look into it. As of a few years ago, $49.4 billion for Harvard and $36.5 billion for Stanford. Working with very rough enrollment and undergrad tuition numbers for Harvard, they could cover all students for a couple billion a year, forever. A fraction of the profits and interest they gain each year.
@@lvjb Thanks for your reply. Even if the endowments of Harvard were placed into a 100% secure US backed bond, the interest alone would cover the tuition of each and every student currently attending Harvard.
Hi this woman DESERVES A STANDING OVATION FROM THE HEAVENS! THEY DON'T MAKE HUMANBEINGS LIKE HER ANYMORE! SHE IS AN ANGEL 😇 GOD SENT TO ALL HUMANITY! AMEN 🙏
This is great and I want to keep an open mind. Does anyone know if this donation has any financial/tax benefits for the donor and college? Just curious
No tax benefits will outweigh the 1 billion dollars she gave away and that money is literally going towards tuition. They are going as far as to reimburse the students. There's little to no avenues for corruption.
I mean, as someone who is learning about tax accounting, I think the most you can get is a charitable contribution deduction if you itemize your deductions. That said, it depends on certain factors, such as if the school qualifies as an institution where you can deduct donations as charitable contributions. Even then, there is a limit to how much you can deduct so I know that the donor will not be able to deduct the entirety whatsoever. The remaining not deducted can be carried forward to future years to be deducted but there’s only so many years you can carry forward excess charitable contributions. That is all to say, I think the only tax benefit to the donor is that they can deduct a portion of it on their tax return. As for the college, I have no idea. Granted, this is just coming from a student who is studying tax accounting and is not someone who is out in practice yet. You’d find a more informed answer from a professional.
I am sorry, but this is so wrong: EDUCATION SHOULD BE EFFING FREE. In my country no med student pays for their education - and neither does any other student. As for the US - how many talented youngsters do not get the education, they deserve, because they cannot afford to pay those sums.
Whole world's wide become doctors only 5 years no MCAT TEST . WHOLE WORLD'S WIDE MED SCHOOL tuition fee free bcoz this profession great profession . Doctors saves life's that why doctors should be stress free
I wish that happened to all universities like mine for sfsu that tuition always hight i had used financial grants, any month tobpay for my degree. Plus, i am a low income student whose financial burdens big deal with me .
Maybe our country's problem is prenuptial agreements. Billionaire's wives are giving money away that their husbands should have been doing. Like Jeff Bezos' ex wife, Steve Job's widow, this professor etc. 😂😂😂 Jkjk
Maybe our country's problem is that too many people rely on billionaires' wives giving money away, instead of haing a public pulicy that funds education, retirement and health care so adequately through taxes that we don't have to rely on billionaires' wives.
Now imagine if the top 5 billionaires did this or even 500 million at more schools. So many people would be able to graduate with almost no debt. It also has me wondering if this will affect students going to that school ability to get smaller loans for housing and books.
While a wonderful thing - get ready for every medical student aspirant to move to new York to go to school for free. Get ready also for: Higher/Difficult attendance (GPA) requirements Higher standards Higher rent for students due to inflation/demand Potential misuse of funds for university projects/lining tenured professor pockets - hope they get the audit contingency in place asap This school will go from being the lowest to being the highest and most competitive medical schools in the world from this donation.
Just imagine if all billionaires could be as amazing as this woman. This world would be a happier place
Amen
Nothing is ever good enough for this generation. Just greedy
