    Diving back into the kaiju genre, and slightly breaking up my Evil Dead reviews, we have for examination this week Godzilla vs DESTOROYAH! The final movie in the Heisei series of Godzilla films, Godzilla vs DESTOROYAH pits the monster against a creature birthed from the only substance to ever kill Godzilla... the oxygen destroyer!

    Destoroyah's chest was supposed to be his ultimate weapon. If you watch the alternate ending, he 'uses' it there. I say 'uses' because there is no actual beam, just a flash that indicates that it's being fired.

    Personally I have always seen Destroyah as Godzilla's toughest opponent. Not only is Destroyah incredibly lethal with being an oxygen destroyer turned into a near unkillable monster, Destroyah is the one monster Godzilla has never defeated 1v1.

      i love the Godzilla comics because of that theory. in those books hes actually labeled as the second strongest monster next to Godzilla.thefights are also kickass and the art is great.

    • @goldman77700
      @goldman77700 7 лет назад +9

      Not true. Godzilla did defeat Destroyah 1v1. Destroyah retreated and then the Japanese military froze his wings he fell down and proceeded to melt due to the ground being superheated because of the G-zilla's meltdown. So Godzilla did defeat Destroyah and did ultimately cause Destroyah's death with some help tho. SpaceGodzilla was a whole another beast. Curbstomped Godzilla 1v1 and then proceded to do the same 1v2 against Godzilla and Moguera though they eventually won.

    • @HORRIOR1
      @HORRIOR1 7 лет назад +4

      goldman77700 Yeah but if we had a scenario where it was Destroyah vs SpaceGodzilla, Destroyah would win since SG would have nothing to kill Destroyah with. She (yes, destroyah is infact called a she in Japanese dub) is capable of reassembling itself after suffering huge amounts of damage, and only a little bit of it is needed to survive and regrow. Godzilla was only able to kill Destroyah in the movie, because she was frozen and thus G's heat was capable of killing it. Other uses of fire and heat just made Destroyah stronger.

    • @goldman77700
      @goldman77700 7 лет назад +6

      No no. Godzilla was winning the fight and getting supercharged by the meltdown THAT'S why Destroyah retreated. Because like in the movie said Godzilla's meltdown would've burned a hole into the core of the earth. Sorry but Destroyah heat resistance isn't THAT good. Why it didn't happen because Godzilla Junior absorbed it all Godzilla senior's energy. Meaning an the new fully adult Godzilla junior would obliterate Destroyah. As for Destoryah vs SG. SG got better defensive feats and offensive feats. Taking on two monsters(one being robot) and defeating Godzilla twice. SG was pretty much unstoppable until they destroyed it's crystals with his regeneration AND shield. While Destroyah and Godzilla had a pretty close fight the whole time. I personally think SG could outlast Destroyah. I think it's silly to suggest that Destroyah can't be defeated by anything other than extreme temperatures. Those happen to it's main weakness. With enough crystals I think SG could deliver a fatal blow to Destroyah.

      Oh, man, Godzilla's death broke my heart, I actually got a little teary-eyed! And even though it's just a movie, I kept thinking through the whole film... if Godzilla were real, how much agonizing pain would he have to have been in through the whole story, burning up from the inside to the point where he melted? And still, he fought this other kaiju like a champ until he won?? Poor Godzilla! How awful for him! This was possibly the saddest Godzilla film ever; that damned dirge music as he melted didn't help, lol. But I was glad he was reborn in a sense through his son. Nice touch.

    It isn't just that you haven't seen the previous Godzilla movies Decker. The English dub leaves out some plot points that make it a bit confusing. It wasn't until the 2014 Blu-Ray this movie with its original language and accurate English subtitles was even released in the states. The original language version with the accurate subtitles clears some things up. I recently did a review of Final Wars and I decided to review its original language version despite the fact I don't speak Japanese. It helps with that one the original language version is like 20% in English anyway

    • @DeckerShado
      @DeckerShado  8 лет назад +10

      +Loudmouth Reviews Ah, yeah that can happen.. like... way too much in so many things. I remember the fun I had years ago, with the Sailor Moon DVD sets playing the episodes/movies in English but with subtitles. The subtitles were a direct translation from the Japanese, and the english... "localization" as it were. Half the time, they didn't match up, and more than once they actually were stating diametrically opposed things.

    • @LoudmouthReviews
      @LoudmouthReviews 8 лет назад +3

      Decker Shado It would be kind to say many translations were even translations at all. Many times anime's released in America actually have new scripts written for them that are very opposed to the original intent. For example in Final Wars after Godzilla kills Zilla the line "I knew that tuna eating monster was useless" for no reason is changed in the English dub to "I knew that tuna head wasn't up to it". I have no idea why they changed this since the original line was much funnier

    Good ending tagline Decker. However, I would have also accepted: "Precambrian Lifeforms; KILL 'EM WITH FIRE!!! Either that or call in Burt Gummer." lol As for why the excessive radiation killed Godzilla Sr. and not Godzilla Jr, well...I have my own theory about that. You see, I believe it's because G-Sr. was far older and his heart couldn't take that much power and his healing factor was already starting to fade at some point between this movie and Godzilla vs Space Godzilla, whilst Jr. was much younger and therefore his body could handle and regulate it more efficiently. Maybe you can do Scientific Analysis on Godzilla sometime in the future. That would be awesome!

  • @Cybermat47
    @Cybermat47 7 лет назад +10

    So you do scientific analyses on Xenomorphs AND Godzilla reviews?
    Subscribed!
    Also, I find it funny that Heisei Godzilla has to use super-charged atomic breath to destroy a city's skyline, while Shin Godzilla can just do that normally :D
    And... hold on, how did Dr. Ijuin reference Dr. Serizawa's work? We saw him destroy it all in the 54 film, and he killed himself soon after.
    Perhaps, like in the Kiryu Saga, the 54 film happened slightly differently in the Heisei universe?
    (For those who don't know, in the Kiryu Saga's universe, Shodai Godzilla's bones weren't destroyed by the Oxygen Destroyer like they were in the 54 film).
    "Normally evolution requires reproduction of some kind, but fuck, we've got to get this plot moving."
    Now you have stock footage to use if you review _Shin Godzilla_ :D

    If I may suggest, try to track down a copy of "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" and "Terror of Mechagodzilla". Those movies represent the end of the "Showa" Series, but there is a real shift in tone, something that would be better expressed in the "Heisei" Series. They are also meant to be watched back to back, much like "Godzilla 1984" and "Godzilla vs. Biolante".

    Why was I so afraid of watching this review that I waited almost a year to get to it?
    Maybe it's because I like this movie. Or maybe its because seven years on deviantart has taught me that the majority of the fanbase thinks Destroyah is overrated (yeah and Space Godzilla isn't, apparently), and I guess I was fearful of hearing the same here.
    But yeah; this is undoubtedly one of my faves of the whole franchise. So much so that I actually managed to buy a Artwork Poster for this movie, printed on a silk sheet.
    Each of the Heisei movies were meant to showcase a parallel to Godzilla in some way. And on that trend, Godzilla's second series ends with Destroyah being Godzilla's *Godzilla;* the powerful and nearly unstoppable force of destruction that once literally destroyed him.

  • @NoraIconiq
    @NoraIconiq 6 лет назад +1

    Im gonna have to watch that movie again because I dont remember them saying it was radioactive material that caused godzilla to become burning godzilla. But I do remmber it being heavily implied that it was part of godzilla's life cycle and why we only see one fully grown godzilla in the entire franchise. Much like with mothra godzilla goes through its reproductive cycle near the end of its life span and protects its offspring until it finally dies. But in the case of godzilla the final stages of its life cycle causes it to go into a melt down of which its offspring is present at the time to absorb the radiation from its parent not only allowing it to reach fully maturity but also making it stronger. Which is why godzilla is able to take on increasingly more powerful foes because every generation of godzilla is stronger then the previous. As they absorb the radiation from their parent and continue to grow in strength througj out its life as it absorbs more radiation til it reaches the end of its life cycle. Granted its implied if you pay attention but not actually mentioned other then in previous movies they state that godzilla consumes radioactive material. So overall its just a theory but it does make the most sense when looking at the evidence.

    Hey Decker, if you want to try some really rare Kaiju films that little to no one has heard of to go over might I suggest Garuda, Thailand's first kaiju film, Reptilicus from Danish, The Giant Claw from America, and the most guarded one of them all, Pulgasari from North Korea! They kidnapped a Japanese Director to make it, it also uses a lot of Communist ideals in the whole thing.

    Hello Mr. Decker, may I say, you are terribly under-rated, and I'll try to get as many as I can to at least watch your videos.

    For you to understand who Sho Kuroki and Miki Saegusa are in the ongoing Heisei series plot lines, you need to watch "Godzilla vs Biollante" first.

    Am I the only one wondering how Godzilla manages to shrug off oxygen destroyer, pretty much the only thing that (I am aware of) has ever managed to kill a Godzilla, like its just an average kaiju attack?

    Technically in the previous movie (Space Godzilla, yeck), they do say they're placing nuclear land mines so the next time Godzilla comes back...KABOOM! It seems in this movie they've blown up and taken the island with them, and set Godzilla on the path to his death. :(

    Decker if you still want to watch the other Heisei Godzilla Films you should start with the 1984 one even though it brings nothing really new to the table. What i think will be the best of the series to you is the 1991 Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, you got time travel - terminator shit, past timline changes and the hands down best hand to hand monster action since godzilla vs Mechagodzilla from 1974. please review the 1991 jam. p.S. top work as always

    Godzilla vs ghost Godzilla would've been pretty cool in my opinion. You would've had the Heisei Godzilla vs the 1954 Godzilla. I would pay to see that.

      When you mentioned Ghost Godzilla my first thought was GMK Godzilla vs. Heisei Godzilla, which in my opinion, would be just as awesome.
