    Very informative. I have a question for you Sir. Last week we were performing tests on 11kV Switchgear on a substation. We first tested insulation resistance on the 150mm² Paper Cable and learned that two phases, Red & Blue have become in contact with each other. All of the phases were not in contact with EARTH.
    Having these readings from the megger we concluded that the cable is faulty and had to Thumped to locate the fault. We did exactly that, but the Thumper did not do as expected, it was not giving signs that the cable is faulty. We then tested by VLF and the cable passed all the tests. After these tests we discussed this and decided to energize the cable since it has passed the other tests apart from the megger's. We energized it but without giving it a load and it did not cause any problems.
    My fear is, when the time comes for this cable to feed a load there is going to be a problem, because when we were testing using VLF there was a " shhhhhhhh" sound on the back of the panel right at the termination of the cable like a gas was leaking.
    In your opinion do you think the cable was faulty or the problem is on the termination (GAS). Or do you think the cable is fine and will be even when supplying a load?

    Dead tank circuit breakers 245 kV and higher are far from dead. They generate very high and unpleasant E-fields in their vicinity. Not recommended to come too close to their bushings
