    Changing the speed sensor did not fix my rendezvous with the same hesitation and lack of acceleration symptoms. An older mechanic said he had seen another one like this and the passenger front wheel ABS wheel speed sensor had frayed wires inside the insulation causing a false feedback to the computer and when he fixed the ABS wire the hesitation went too! This is exactly what mine did and also the ABS light went out on one. Notice in his video the ABS light is on and he is not addressing that problem as no one would link the two symptoms. Track down the ANS fault first.

    I replaced my speed sensor and I’m still having the exact same problem. I noticed your original had lubricant on the near ends of it when you pulled it out, would lubricant being inside of the hole the sensor goes into cause it to be causing the same problem when I replaced it with a new one? I hope I explained that well enough ive been trying to fix this for awhile now.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  4 года назад +1

      I completely get what you mean for sure. There was some grease on there, but I never greased mine, and it had worked at the time. So I'm not sure if pre-greasing is necessary. Unfortunately I no longer have access to the car to double check.
      I will tell you that when I was researching this issue, it was extremely common and there are many causes, ranging from a dirty throttle body to the speed sensor, and a bunch in-between. I'll see if I still have that list.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  4 года назад +1

      Here is a small list of common causes
      Fuel Pump
      Spark Plugs/Wires
      ignition coils
      EGR valve
      Mass Air Flow Sensor
      torque converter shift solenoid
      Dirty throttle body

    Hey there, thanks for the video. Looked very easy so I got under my grandparent's rendezvous and attempted to change their's out but could not find the sensor at all. It looks different underneath so I was curious if the vehicle in the video is AWD like the one I was under and if that would make a difference.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад

      The one in the video is front wheel drive. I am unsure if the sensor is in a different spot on the AWD models. These should be a speed sensor, but I am not sure if they moved it for the AWD trans

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад

      Kou Moua unfortunately I couldn't answer that for you, as there is a bunch of things that can cause that. could be a wiring issue, electrical, or even the speedometer could be busted. I would say to troubleshoot from the speedometer and go back through the wiring with a multimeter

    I had a brake line bust and saw the other lines were looking rough so I replaced all the lines. Now my 05 won't shift out of 1st gear. The transmission was working fine before the brake issue. Any insight on what I got going on?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  Год назад +1

      Honestly, I couldn't say. That's a strange one. Those systems are not really connected in a way that should cause that. My only potential guess is that when working on the brake lines, something (like a shift solenoid or.something like that) got unplugged or damaged accidentally. But beyond that, I couldn't say from here. Hopefully it's not a big issue or fix.

  • @paulaoyedele2081

    Mine does not work at all. The arm is dead and has dropped to the other side of the dial. That happened first. Then the heat on drivers side blows cold air in from outside.....sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. After this the lights on speedometer comes on sometimes and sometimes it does not. Then the battery signal came on sometimes. I brought it to the mechanic and instead of looking at the cluster, they changed the harmonic balancer, serpentine belt and alternator to the tune of $990.00 CDN. Heat still not coming and lights still not fixed, and the arm of the tachometer still dead. Wish I was a mechanic to fix my own car.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  5 лет назад

      Oh wow, Paula, I am really sorry to hear that...sounds like a complete wreck. Unfortunately, this is all too common in the auto industry (and many others as well). The thing is, you have seemingly described two VERY common issues with the Rendezvous...cluster and heater failures. This is incredibly common on these cars.
      Now, I am not there, so don't take me at 100% on this, but I can tell you what I know
      For the cluster, there are little motors inside that control all the dials. Those fail VERY commonly, and you will need either a new cluster or the motors inside needs to be rebuilt. While I cannot say 100% that is the issue, as there can be other things that cause it, this happens on many Rendezvous.
      For the heater, this is also very common. There is a few causes for it.
      1. The controls burn out or melt. This happens a lot. I actually have a video on it, it you want to watch it for reference.
      ruclips.net/video/rEi8jHXNa68/видео.html
      2. There is a heater control that sometimes melts. It is by the blower motor.
      3. It can also be a faulty heater core, or something called a blend door. But these are far less likely.
      I hope this info helps gives some insights and you can get the car fixed. They have a few common issues, but are great cars. Again, sorry to hear. Some of the exact reasons I make these videos is to prevent stories like these from becoming reality! Hope it all works out.

    I did not see an o-ring on your new part.
    On mine the vehicle keeps kicking down and winding,...and pulls 15- 30 mph,.... but I'm unsure what the problem is.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  5 лет назад

      I thought so too initially. While filming, when I pulled the other one, I saw they were different and double checked with the part supplier...they said it was correct. After installation, this did fix the acceleration issue we were having, for what it;s worth.
      Hopefully you are able to locate the issue. It is always tricky trying to diagnose an acceleration issue. Hopefully nothing severe with the transmission

    I am curious how hard it would be to get the side cover off to change the shift solinoids?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  5 лет назад +1

      to be honest, I am not 100% sure. I no longer have access to the vehicle, and I can't seem to find reliable information online. You may need a manual for more details.
      From memory, I think you can get to it from removing the driver side wheel, and you can gain access. But things are in the way, and I am fairly certain you will need to remove the driveshaft too for room (and by extension, some brake components too). But I could be wrong there. As for inside the side cover, I do not know what is involved inside. Keep in mind you will be draining out transmission fluid from the lower pan as well, so might as well do a drain-and-fill and put a new filter in if you have not done it in a while. Wish I could be of more help.

    • @NexusAuto

      Yeah it can. Unfortunately, there is a few causes for the car to not go over any rpm (not 70 rpm, do you mean 700? 70 seems way too low). But the speed sensor is one of the potential causes.

      Does the car hesitate of 40, and does the check battery go away over 40?
      It could be a few things, but if it goes away above 40 or 50, it sounds like it could be the alternator. Can't say it is 100% the issue, but it would be where I would start testing if I was working on the car.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  3 года назад

      Unfortunately, that's not something I can help with directly from here. Worse part is that there is many potential causes, and it is sort of common on Rendezvous.
      First thing is, if you are getting an engine code by chance, get it scanned. But often times, a code doesn't show. If that is the case, here are some more popular potential causes (not in any particular order)
      Fuel Pump
      Spark Plugs/Wires
      ignition coils
      EGR valve
      Mass Air Flow Sensor
      torque converter shift solenoid
      Dirty throttle body
      Faulty throttle body
      I know, it's a big list. And there is other bigger things too, like a failing transmission. But don't want to even consider it at this point. I know this won't directly help, but I am hoping it may steer you in the right direction.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад

      unfortunately, I have not done the fuel filter. It is a bit of a pain though. There is 2 versions for Buick Rendezvous. One I have personally seen, which is easy. It is located on the driver side rail, right about in between the driver side front and rear doors. If you have this one, you're lucky. I saw this on an 04 Rendezvous. I have seen other ones where the filter was not there. Out of curiosity, I looked into it, and found it was mentioned it is near the gas tank. I never investigated further as the client soon decided to scrap the car. With this one, I have heard many people say the cannot locate it, and something tells me it is sitting on top of the gas tank. Not 100% sure though. I will see if I can find anything for you. Thanks again for watching.

    • @j.cooper2246

      Not all model years of buck rendezvous are equipped with a fuel filter. If your vehicle is equipped with one it is almost underneath the driver's front seat bolted to the frame . You will need a fuel line does connect tool in order to change This filter.

This issue with Rendezvous have MANY common issues, but the speed sensor is one of the most common. Here is a common list of other things that can cause it. For the ignition issue (in this order)
      1. ignition coil
      2. spark plug and wired
      3. mass air flow sensor
      4. egr valve
      5. fuel pump
      If it is the transmission
      1. torque converter shift solenoidAt some point, I have encountered some of these issues at one time or another. I also saw someone on here who advised he changed the ABS wiring and that fixed the issue with his acceleration issues. The ABS wiring is a VERY common issue with Rendezous, but it was not the cause in my situations. So I would start with this list and go one by one.

    Since i did a change of the sensonr, it went ok for aa while. Then rencently it started to jolt when I climb hills or if I go above 90 100 km/h. I a a transmision fluid change and flush . Still same problem. Would you be kind enough to reorder by simplest to more complicated these repairs you mentioned earlier. The symptom I have now happens when climbing a hill and at higer speeds. The transmission does little jolts like it skips...The sensor was changed and the connecting wire to the sensor resoldered too.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 лет назад +1

      There is a fix, but its annoying. The speedometer dying is VERY common on Rendezvous, and it is almost always a dead motor in the back of the cluster. The motor needs to be replaced, either by obtaining one at a junkyard (and they are very hard to fix on your own) or bringing it to a specialist to replace them directly. It is so common, it is almost a feature of the car.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  9 лет назад

      ouch that's not good at all. the problem is, there could be many things wrong. ultimately, it is most likely something within the ignition systems. it is hard to say without having the car in front of me. you could be looking at things like ignition coils, a clogged fuel filter, fuel pump failure, fuel injector problems. it can also be major issues internally with the engine, like worn piston rings, to name a few. it could be a simple, cost effective issue, or very expensive. hopefully some of the above will help your mechanic diagnose the car, but there is so many things that could be causing the problem

  • @Teeezze
    @Teeezze 6 лет назад

    Does this also fix the issue that makes it seem like your transmission is slipping?
    My acceleration and RPM rate has been good since my last tune up, except when initially pulling out after a stop. When a light turns green and I step on the gas, it “misses”. I’ve thought (and been told by friends) that the transmission was going out for 4-5 years because of this, but mechanics tell me the transmission is good.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 лет назад +1

      It may fix the issue, as this sort of thing is very common with Buick Rendezvous, and unfortunately, there are a few causes for this. One thing I would start off with is cleaning the throttle body, especially if you have the 3.5L or 3.6L. Those are prone to carbon buildup on the butterfly valve. If you clean that and the issue persists, I would move to changing the Vehicle Speed Sensor next, and go from there if it still does not fix the issue.

      What you are experiencing is very common with the 4T65E transmission. ( servo extended pin.).. This pin is almost a quarter inch longer then the stock pin from GM originally. This pin will fully engaged to the forward band thus eliminating that hard thump your experiencing with your initial acceleration . Also there are 3 ri
      O-rngs that could commonly fail , and would cause a lack of pressure . all o -rings are replaced while this service is done ensuring a proper seal. I just had mine serviced by my mechanic and part and labor should run around 150.. Transmission shifts fantastic once again

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  9 лет назад +1

      hey thanks for watching. this is also a very common issue with Rendezvous, and there is a few things that cause it. the most common issue is a broken wire by the wheels. they become very brittle and break easily after a while, so I say start by checking the wires. take off the front wheels, and find the abs sensor...you'll see 2 wires coming out. take off the black cover the goes into the engine bay, and search for any break or tears. if you have a voltmeter, check power as well.
      the grrrr noise you hear and feel in the brake pedal/throttle is the abs itself. its malfunctioning, causing that noise. hope this helps

    Hi,
    My 03 Rendezvous has an idling problem. When I am in stop and go traffic the car will go from idling normal to idling at around 1300 Rpm (reg is 600-800). This causes me a harder time to stop. But once I put the car in neutral, the car revs up to 2000-2500 rpm. When it is turned off and back on, it goes back to normal.

    could a bad sensor cause the vehicle to shut off? I scanned the car and it says I need a new VSS 2005 Buick Rendezvous. I also have other issues going on as well. Like like sludge in my coolant reservoir

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад +1

      I have not seen it shut off a vehicle, just make it run very poorly. But it is possible. But there is also tons of things that can cause the car to shut off. If you scanned and it is giving the VSS code, I would say to get that changed first and see if that rectifies the issue with the shut off. The sludge in the reservoir is all too common with GMs, unfortunately. As Dexcool coolant breaks down, it turns into a sludge that also gums up the entire engine. It may be a good idea to do a coolant flush, especially if you have a high mileage car. Google Dexcool sludge...its crazy what it does to the inside of cars.

    • @mrsfilipponi

      thank you, i read chemical flush is the only way to get it out. i think it said it could cause the intake manifold to leak. if that's the case that too would need to be repaired as well?
      thanks for all the info and replying!!

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад

      Yeah, either a chemical flush, or a GM dealer uses a combination of chemical and pressurization. Either way, it's not easy and is a bit pricey. Also, if you are bringing it to a shop, be careful. Some claim to flush out dexcool systems, but all they really do is dump the old fluid and put new fluid in, and this does not help out at all. As for the intake manifold, this is true, especially on this car and the 3.4L V6 engine. If you have the 3.6L V6, you should be ok, but the 3.4L(3400) have very finicky with their intake manifold. In fact, it is the single biggest issue with any car with the 3400 engine. So many things can cause the intake manifold to fail. It was a very common issue and can fail regardless on if you do the flush or not. But if it does fail, it is a necessary fix and you should be prepared for that, just in case. I am not sure if you are doing the work yourself or bringing it to the shop, but if you are doing it yourself, it is a very annoying job. Not easy at all. If you are bringing it to the shop, a quick tip is to not mention the intake manifold to the mechanic. Most are aware of 3400 intake manifold issues and will try and get you to fix it, even if there is nothing wrong with it. Unless you have a mechanic you trust, let them do the flush and just be prepared in case the intake manifold becomes an issue. Don't quote me on that, but just my advice.

    • @mrsfilipponi
      @mrsfilipponi 7 лет назад

      Nexus Auto
      sorry i know we got off topic. my car will go to the gm dealership for the flush. its a 3.6L so hopefully my intake manifold is still good. one thing thats happening is when i take my radiator cap off fluid just bubbles out over the top. my car us cold when that happens. not driven in days... do you think that could be due to the thermostat? i watched a couple vids of thermostat replacement it looks like a hell of a job getting to it. when i try to find a thermostat online at a local auto parts store they don't sell the thermostat as is it comes with i guess the housing. if it is replaced should the housing be apart of that or is replacing the thermostat alone fine?
      also many vehicle speed sensors have the the clamp on the sensor so that should be one less step if you buy one with the clamp.
      thanks again for sharing your knowledge and advice !!!

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад

      Oh no problem at all. The coolant bubbling out could be a thermostat, but it could be other things too. depending on how much is coming out, sounds like air is getting in to the system, so a coolant flush could fix that too. After you complete the flush, if the bubbling still happens, then there is something else going on. before looking into the thermostat, take a look around for any coolant links and smell the engine too. Sounds funny I know lol. But if you detect a sort of burnt sweet smell, you may have a leak somewhere and air may be getting in that way. If there is no smell, then its just a matter of working your way from one part to another. The thermostat is a good starting point, but only if you notice the engine is either too hot(stuck closed) or too cold(stuck open). And yeah, it is a big pain to do! Unfortunately, it is part of the housing and both should be replaced. It can be done on its own, but it is such a pain, you may be better off just getting the housing as well.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 лет назад

      They're pretty good cars overall, but there is honestly quite a few problems with them too. There is a notorious manifold issue with the 3400 3.4L V6 engines, the cluster (speedometer, fuel, heat, etc) will most likely fail or start reading incorrectly, and there is issues with the transmission getting jumpy and hesitant, and there is an ABS wire that almost always breaks on the passenger side, causing your ABS light to be on and ABS not to work correctly. . As long as your new one does not have these issues, then you should be ok. For those people who owned them, they seemed very happy until some of these issues showed up.

      As long as it's not a major sensor, and if the mileage is good, then I think it's worth it at $1000, as my opinion. Some sensors are easy fixes, or can be left as is (although I would never recommend that). Any engine codes/check engine light?

      You can use any aftermarket stereo in the Rendezvous. The main issue is having the right mounting equipment. You need to proper installation kit, wiring harness, and if you want to keep the steering wheel controls, you need an adapter for that as well.

    My 2002 Rendezvous feels like it starts off in second gear and never will kick into passing gear regardless of speed. could this be the problem?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад

      It could be. there is a few things that can cause that issue, but the speed sensor could be it. Have you tried a filter and flush on the transmission? I have found that wit many cars that have come in with trans issues, a filter and flush works wonders. Doesn't fix everything all the time, but it has helped more often than not.

      Sorry for the late response. The Transmission Solenoid(the shift solenoid?) is not easy to do at all. You have to open the side of the transmission to get to it, if I remember correctly. Either way, it is a pain to do for the DIY'er

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  8 лет назад +1

      Londie's Handmade Crochet it did fix the issue and the erratic acceleration was gone. however, i do want to mention that in the rendezvous, there is actually a few things that can cause the acceleration issues, so this isn't the only fix. but it is a very common issue

    • @Londieshc
      @Londieshc 8 лет назад

      Thank you for the quick reply. My issue is that the traction control kicks on and last night my anti-lock light came on. The shifting is also a little sluggish.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  8 лет назад +1

      Londie's Handmade Crochet ah you most likely have 2 separate issues. For the sluggish acceleration, the first 2 things I would recommend, if you haven't done them already, is check the transmission fluid level and flush the fluid. sluggish acceleration can also be caused by dozens of things, with everything as minor as needing a tune up, to as major as having a compression issue. as for the traction control and abs issue, rendezvous have a VERY common issue with the abs wire breaking right near the front wheels, and most times it's the passenger side. once the wheel is off, you'll see a couple of wires heading to the abs sensor, and they'll have a black cover on them (that is likely very brittle now). you have to take off that black wire cover and check for breaks and damage. i encountered quite of a few of these issues on many GMs, including Rendezvous

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  8 лет назад +1

      You are in for some serious work. When I was researching this job, the Vehicle Speed Sensor was the most common cause, but not the only cause for the shift issue. Here is a list of everything I determined *could* cause this. Fuel Pump
      Spark Plugs/Wires
      ignition coils
      EGR valve
      Mass Air Flow Sensor
      torque converter shift solenoid
      I would start with the simpler stuff(plugs, MAF) but there is a lot of things that can fail on this car. Hope this helps

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  6 лет назад

      Ah gotcha. OK, this is a big issue. It you can rev the engine, but it does not move at all, then that indicates a transmission issue. Problem is, there is many things that can cause that, from small minor things like really old fluid or a bad solenoid, to a failing transmission. The fact that it worked again is a good sign, but it should still be looked at. How was the transmission fluid? All good? Also, was it a very hot day when the car would not run?

      Trust me, I understand your pain. At the time, I did not have a tripod low enough to fit under there, and you need 2 hands to work, so I had to stop filming. But regardless, it IS frustrating. There is not a lot of room with the screw, so you can only do little movements at a time, and that little clip is a pain to get off. Took me longer to get the clip off then it took to get the car up on ramps and the 10mm screw out. Where are you having issues? The screw, or the clip?

    Replacing the sensor didn't fix the problem. It was shifting better at first with speedometer still not tracking the correct speed, then eventually shifting gone back to shifting the same as before.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад

      damn sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, there is a lot of causes for poor acceleration and transmission shifting on the Rendezvous. Since I am not there, I cannot diagnose it, but maybe I can help give some direction on where to go next.
      First, the speedometer not reading, that is a VERY common issue in the Rendezvous and Azteks, and it is actually an issue in the speedometer cluster itself. I had a few rebuilt at a local shop here (they had to replace the internal motors) and that had great success. So whatever fix it is for the sluggish acceleration, it will likely not fix the speedometer issue.
      So with that said, these engines have issues with both the acceleration from a combustion standpoint, and a shifting issue from a transmission standpoint.
      Again, take my suggestions for what they are, because I cannot check your car in any way. These are the top fixes I found for each issue
      For the ignition issue (in this order)
      1. ignition coil
      2. spark plug and wired
      3. mass air flow sensor
      4. egr valve
      5. fuel pump
      If it is the transmission
      1. Transmission filter change and fluid drop(this is surprisingly effective for these cars, but DO NOT DO A COMPLETE FLUSH)
      2. torque converter shift solenoid
      Between all these SUVs I worked on, one of these ultimately would be the fix. But it is hard to diagnose sometimes, and I suspect it always had to do with multiple part failures. Hope this helps. If you have any questions on the above, let me know. Thanks

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  7 лет назад +1

      There may be some contaminants, but it shouldnt be much. I did a couple of these and never noticed significant shavings on them. A bit of stuff, but nothing to worry about. If you are seeing a lot, as in 30% covered or more, I would be concerned for sure.

    • @j.cooper2246

      A lot of metal shavings is a. Bad sign in the transmission. My suggestion update the magnet in your trans Pan to a pair of them. Change your trans filter and fluid. And pray that your 4t65e We'll keep working as they are very problematic transmission.

    I've never heard of a "SPEED - SENSOR" on any car, which doesn't surprise me. The whole concept sounds like a "Money - Making - Ploy" to both OVER- COMPLICATE and INTRODUCE PROBLEMS (Especially on a RENDEZVOUS) (I have one of these things... that's why I can say that)! IT seems that these damn car designers today can get away with anything, as long as they Include the prefix "ECO" (meaning "ECOLOGY") before the obnoxious MODULE that they FORCE into the design.
