Another really good pencil for dark shades in tight spots and even arm or face hair is the Pitt oil base (soft) made by Faber Castell. Goes well with charcoal also. Good work Zach.

I find dark hair isn't terribly hard. But I'd love to see how you handle blonde or even white hair. Stuff where the both the lights and the darks are very strong and very tightly packed.

Honest question. Why smooth paper vs Vellum with charcoal. I have always heard smooth better for graphite and to use vellum for charcoal
