was always scared to try reading chart and 2 color knitting unless it was in a simple patterns you made it seam less scary...thank you..i will watch your other vids to learn more thank you...
Maria- These holes could be occurring for a number of reasons. Your needles might be too big for the yarn you're using, causing a very loose gauge. Or the strands on the back side might be too loose. In my experience, even if I have a few little holes where I change color, the fabric usually evens out a lot after blocking. You might experiment with that to see if the problem improves.
Hi 777jord. Thanks for your comment. To work a color work pattern on the wrong side (purl side) you will hold your working yarns on the front side of the work instead of the back. To change colors between two stitches, simply work the purl stitch in the first color then drop the yarn on the front side, then pick up the second color and purl the next stitch. You must be careful when you pick up the second color to not pull the yarn too tightly so your fabric will stretch. Your floats should appear across the front (which is actually the backside of your piece). I hope this helps! Happy knitting :)
How do you knit row two on the pattern. Go back to the start each time or go from right to left next row left to right etc I'm confused sorry I'm just learning
Hi Alanna-- all "right-side" rows are worked reading the chart from right to left, and all "wrong-side" rows are worked reading the chart from left to right. If you are working a circular piece, all the rows are "right-side" rows, but if you're knitting a flat piece, you would alternate directions. Does that make more sense now?
very cool video and channel. Congrats Alexis! I've subscribed and will follow your work. I really like your style, a bit different from mine... oh well... I'm still learning youtube techniques on my videos! Good luck and keep up with the good work! Cheers!! Raquel
+Knit It Out Thanks so much for your comment Raquel! I also do a lot of research on RUclips before I make my videos. Good luck with your own channel, and I hope you keep making your wonderful tutorials!
How do you knit the pattern into a fair isle thumb? I always mess it up, and when it calls for 2 color increases, I don't understand how to do that in a thumb. Have you got a video on thumbs with patterns knitted into them??
Hi Nancy, Thanks for your comment. I do not have a video for that technique, but I've made many Fair Isle patterned thumbs and fingers. If I am working in a fine gauge (size 4 needle or smaller), I usually use a simple backward loop to cast-on a stitch, instead of a standard make-1 increase. You can do this with either color. For thumbs and fingers, I think it's best to avoid patterns that involve long strands in the back. If the pattern calls for a strand longer than 4-5 stitches, you can capture the strand in the middle by knitting a few stitches, then twisting the colors around each other once before knitting the next stitch. Check out the thumb gusset on my Danae MIttens to see how nice the backward loop increases look: www.knitdarling.com/blog/meet-the-danae-mittens-from-graphic-knits
Hi Lexi, If you want to make a sweater with this type of pattern, it would look best if you have a total number of stitches that evenly divides by the pattern repeat. For instance, if your sweater is 100 sts, and your pattern is 10 sts, that would work out very well. But, if your sweater is 102 sts, you would have an awkward bit at the end of your row where the pattern doesn't quite complete. I hope that answers your question! Best of luck with your project :)
Hi Fernando. Thanks for your comment. There isn't anything special about joining in the other color-you simply pick up the new color and begin knitting with it, while letting the alternate color dangle behind your work. There is no need to tie a knot. Leave a long enough tail so that you can weave in the end. The first stitch is often a little loose but you can tug on the tail a bit to tighten it up.
This is one of the clearest and simplest tutorial for knitters I've came across on RUclips. Congratulations and thank you :)
Sunteți foarte bine intenționate si vă mulțumesc frumos
How are you doing today?
This is one of the best, clearest RUclips explanations I have watched - thanx!

How do you do the purl side when doing color work on straight needles?

A backwards loop could be done in place of a make one? What type of gusset does that make? I looked at the danae mitts, too.
