  • The Mudbuggin 2014 season starts here for me in Minnesota with a 3 day soak with 4 traps in the river. Almost 5 inches of rain fell during this time raising the river level and making it challenging but I did manage to get some bugs. Pictures of the boil at the end of the video.

    Could you do a video or explain on how are you finding the spots to place your traps. I built a few traps similar to yours but my only catch was a bird the while I was getting ready to place them, I know the buggers are around cause when we get tons of rain I can scoop them out of the grass in the yard.

    Joe: Do you like your homemade traps better than the ones you bought in LA? I bought some wire mesh to make some soon, and wondered which one you liked best after using both. Gonna be trying the Mississippi R here in Grand Rapids, MN soon. We had a meal of crays last yr; my trap design stunk, so I put on snorkel gear and neoprene gloves and hand picked a bunch. Thanks for the inspiration.

    • @KD0RVY
      @KD0RVY 10 лет назад

      JoeandZachSurvival I'm up in St. Francis. The Rum is only a few miles from my house. It is also flooded up here. I did get traps in. I got a total of 20 crayfish with just two traps. A few of them were quite big too. I am planning on building 2-3 more round traps asap. Hopefully you will be able to get your traps out soon. :)

    • @JoeandZachSurvival
      @JoeandZachSurvival  10 лет назад

      Did you set them by the bridge by St Francis Hardware? I walked down there last year and on the south side of the bridge there were a couple places that might be good if the water was the right depth.

    • @KD0RVY
      @KD0RVY 10 лет назад

      JoeandZachSurvival that's exactly where I set them. On the east side of the river and just north a touch from the bridge. There is a parking lot on that side of river walking distance from the bridge and that's the area I dropped them. I may go further north even towards Isanti and try that also.

    Hey Joe! Quick question for ya. At what temperature are crawfish active? I just tried today here in Idaho and caught nothing. Last year I was catching them a lot. But today's temperature here was 70 degrees, and yesterday was in the high 50s.
    So should I wait till it's late May or early June? When do I know when they are going to be active? Thanks!

    • @JoeandZachSurvival

    how much rope do you use for each trap?

  • @brandonroberts9827
    @brandonroberts9827 6 лет назад +1

    I have a little trick I use and it works best in bush lake good bass and muskie lake if you end up in the area.anyways I use leeches a lot and they are not cheap.so what I do is I use a woman's nylon stocking and put whatever you like.i use beef heart or pig guts let it sit out for a day or so the longer and nastier the better.i tie my braided line on and throw a few of these out come back check em with a five gallon bucket pull the line in and leeches and crawfish just scrape them of into the bucket.works good.

  • @flamedrag18
    @flamedrag18 10 лет назад

    why do you make your line so short? it seems to limit how far out you can cast your trap out to....

    • @JoeandZachSurvival
      @JoeandZachSurvival  10 лет назад

      If I ever need it longer I do add line. If you get out very far your in the current and its no good so I have just the right amount of string. In one of the Louisiana mudbuggin videos from a few months back I added string because I had to get farther out. Thank you. Joe

    • @JoeandZachSurvival
      @JoeandZachSurvival  10 лет назад

      The tag is on the string. I will be making bigger ones once the season gets moving and the flooding stops. Its raining like crazy out there today so it will be a bit before I get back out there. Most parks are closed because of flooding around that area now. Thank you. Joe

      +TrickShot Bros Thats a great price for them. Unless you have a license to do that from the DNR (here in Minnesota) its highly illegal but your getting good money like I said. Right now you can buy them already boiled down in Louisiana at Reno and Hope seafood in Sorrento for 2.99 a pound.

    From what I understand the Rusty Crayfish is a invasive species. So perhaps on that particular body of water you and your fellow fishermen are putting a dent in the population.
