As a fellow Virginian with Tony Atlas, I've never in my life heard Roanoke, Virginia being both called "western" and a "little town". Roanoke is actually a pretty big city in central Virginia.
He said Low Moor, which is north of Roanoke, between Clifton Forge and Covington. Edit,: And Low Moor and Roanoke are pretty western in relation to VA, very near the border of WV.
I love how Brad tries to say Vince wasn't any different than any of the other promoters and then proceeds to explain how Vince was different than the other promoters...maybe "love" wasn't the word I was looking for.
What I said (and I admit I didn't say it very elegantly) was that other promoters tried to do what Vince did, which is expand well beyond their territories (such as the AWA going into LA in the late 1960s). I think people like Verne Gagne wanted to do what Vince did, they just weren't as good at it.
@@TheBradPack-lb4ro Or they realized the effort wasn't worth the disruptions it would cause the business and quit while they were ahead? I agree if you mean a lot of people, promoters, liked the idea of going national, flirted with it even. Like a lot of wrestlers liked the idea of assaulting the promoter, flirted with it even, but actually going through with it like Nailz is pretty rare(Nailz might have been justified for all I know, but moving on). I could buy "better at it" in the sense Vince Junior somehow managed to avoid the antitrust charges and suits that plagued the National Wrestling Alliance, despite building an even more obvious monopoly using far more obvious predatory and intimidation tactics, but the fact the other men you mentioned actually cared about not destroying/upsetting certain promoters proves they were different from Vince. Even Vince Sr., Vincent J McMahon, was different from his son in that regard, despite having his own exploitative and control freak moments.
