I was the mountain bike mechanic for Kirkwoods bike park between 2013 and 2016. I had such a blast riding all around Kirkwood. every summer I would camp every weekend at Martin Meadows (The thunder mountain/horse shoe canyon loop goes through there) and commute the 5 mins back and forth between my job at Kirkwood and my tent. It was primitive living, but so rewarding.
Awesome as always! You have the same issue I have. "I'm riding solo, so I'm going to throttle back a bit since there's no one here to scrape up the carnage if I eat crap." Then you get on the trail and it's full braaap, and caution goes out the window (my braap is slower than yours btw). "If I crash, I wonder if I'll freeze to death out here before the Coyote's get to me?"
Your little 'moment' at 5:06 reminded me of the time I used a tree to stop at Mammoth. All I could do is focus on the tree and sure enough I hit the tree. Thank goodness for excellent brakes.
Pinned. Such a rad trail. I did it last year as a bike packing trip. We went left at the fork and rode into Scout Carson Lake to sleep out. Now I can't wait to get back and shred again with a unloaded bike. Great video.
Awesome! I've done the full horse canyon ride but as a loop around silver lake and then out squaw ridge to the top. That ride was surprisingly brutal for how light the stats were.
Awesome vid as usual, how do you rate that dpx2 vs x2? Does it give much away, running a 2017 patrol. Was looking for a shock with low speed compression adjustment, running a Lyrik up front
Yo Dane, another great video brother. Have a few questions as I am also considering moving on to the Hightower Lt. Being an enduro rider/racer, do you feel the 29er has brought you an advantage over a 650b and if so, in what manner? As a proponent of aluminum wheels over carbon and now being on them reserve wheels, how have they held up for you and pros and cons of having gone carbon. Any further changes you'll be making or recommend possibly doing? Your opinion is greatly appreciated. Lastly - Hate to sound like a Dad, but @ 5:07 is exactly why you shouldn't be out riding alone in such a desolate and rowdy place. Dude, that could have been REALLY bad! Keep shredding brother and please be safe!
For Enduro racing I think the 29er wheels feel more stable at high speed and over chunky stuff. So far these reserve wheels I've found ZERO downsides and only benefits. Lifetime warranty is nice too.
Wow, nice last second line choice with that downed tree! Smooth!👍🏼
One of the best rides around! Fast and loose start to a fast and chunky finish!
Hidden gem of El Dorado County!

Unreal scenery, unreal riding!

What an epic flawless ride. I really liked the views.
Wow. That's like 4 or 5 different trails rolled into one. Awesome stuff.
Its a real good one! More people need to ride it!
Holy shit that tree down near the end! Awesome!
I might have jumped out of my seat when you about hit that tree!
Wow!!! Crazy tech that trail was hard to see
Yeah the dappled light always makes it tough to ride AND to film.
rad to see kirkwood without any snow! Keep up the killer work!

Trail Peek we thought the same thing. 14 miles over two days was going to be a breeze. That ride beat us to death on a fully loaded bike.
Hella ride for solo Randy! Tight little gem riding right there.
Thanks Walt! It's got a great backcountry wilderness feel.
That's and EPIC view! and what looks like a great chunky trail! Sweet!
One of the most scenic rides in Tahoe that no one has ever done!
Dane for President! Nice riding Dane
Love the Thunder Mtn/Horse Canyon loop. I've done it many times. You ripped it! Love this channel by the way. Only found it a couple weeks ago.
Cheer bud, happy you dig it!
Haha, wheelies right by the cliff. I think I heard the handlebars click passing thru tight trees. Epic riding as always. Beautiful terrain.
Pretty sure this was one of the first MTB rides Paul and Eric dragged me along on!
Trail Peek I’m driving thru Carson pass tomorrow. Stunning up there this time of year before the snow flies. Great trail.
i could barely tell where the trail was in some parts of this. How do you navigate some of this stuff :O
Sometimes you just guess and hope for the best!
I have actually hiked some of that stuff with my snowboard in the winter. Always wanted to get up to that area in the summer and ride it!
Awesome! The views are sweet, and the downhill is fast!
Cant wait to ride this one again.
What a trail. Great vids by the way. Keep them coming
Thanks Darryl! Just doing what we love
Wow hiking to the top of that was technical enough for me. I can’t imagine riding a bike across those rocks. Badass vid bro

I WAS CONVINCED TO SUBSCRIBE WITH THE VIEW AT THE 1:00 mark. Thanks for the video SUPER COOL!!!
Haha thanks bud!
Amazing handling of the tech terrain!! Primo riiding!
Cool to see a sponsorship at the end! Nice work
that tree probably would've ended some lives! another great vid, damn you shred fast
Looks like an awesome trail. Bet those moments you had got your adrenaline pumping - looks like good times...
Great as always but it's better to have the two of you, when Randy's in front it's such a greater sense of speed.
I've been wanting to ride Kirkwood for years but never make it. That's my main winter riding destination. Next year for sure!
No rain in the forecast, ya still got time!
Sweet trail and riding.
Thanks Mike!
How do you even see the trail when it looks like that? I would be going off every 30 seconds.
That was sick! That tree almost took you out.
Love the wood!
awesome ride man! I have a regular Hightower right now, would u recommend the HT LT as an upgrade to a regular HT?
Not really. very similar bikes, I wouldn't sell one to get the other.
Thanks Dane!
You showld do it again rewies and test ride of new bikes. Keep doing the good work that you always do 👍
Gonna be checking out the Pivot Mach 5.5 and 6 next week
Trail Peek awesome
HOLY SHIT! You so nearly hit that tree dude!
Soooooo close! Didn't see the turn until i was lined up with that tree!
Guys were saying that rear shock squeaks is that what I'm hearing? How many hours on it?
I haven't had that issue with this shock. I have a significant amount of time on it too.
Sick ride man. Was wondering if you guys would be able to start posting how long these rides are and your elevation gains and loss as well.
This one is around 3000ft of vert and took maybe 2hrs without stops
Wow awesome riding. I can tell you've done this a few times because I barely saw where the trail was at times!
Only once and that was a few years back lol!

Speeeeed ! That was awesome :)
That thumbnail 👌 lmao 🤣
What brand goggles do you recommend?
I've been using the Smith Squad Goggles for a while with good success.
Please whem you ride you leave the rebound in turtle or rabbit?
Depends how you like them shox!
Trail Peek Thanks!
I must have fallen in the rabbit hole...riding solo and gloves?!?!
Temps are dropping! Gloves are too hot in the summer
Some crazy shit!
any loose fillings after that? ha ha that was intense viewing :o
Awesome!!!
Damn dude. You just about ate a tree for lunch.
And you’re biking this alone....😳😳
Sweet!!!!
Crazy fucker nice ride 🤘
hahaha thanks Robert!
dude you're supposed to braaap berms, not the base of a tree!
LOL!
hi mom
