Jirard: I'm ready for Halo 2
Halo 2 Legendary: I'm about to end this man's whole career
Eugh god and I thought ODST’s legendary campaign was hard.. never again..
Legendary isn't all that bad. LASO on the other hand...
The sniper Jackals are reporting for duty.
Four words: Halo Reach, legendary, solo.
@@MegaPokeman1 nah
Fun fact: My dad was actually one of the Sound Designers for the original halo as well as its sequels. He worked on all the games up to reach before companies switched around. He’s also done work on both destiny games. I always like to bring it up when people talk about halo because I think it’s cool. Maybe not a huge deal but I thought I would share anyways.
Dude that is awesome. It’s a huge deal. Sound design, especially in Halo, is extremely important. Halo’s sound design is legendary. Tell him thank you for his incredible work, for me, please?
What does he think of the 343 sounds?
Halo's classic sounds are pure nostalgia. Their absence in the newer games is part of what makes them feel so foreign and jarring.
Your dads a legend
Lol. Funny
There is now an episode of The Completionist for every day of the year. CONGRATS JIRARD!
Was just thinking the same thing.
Sadly this fact won’t actually be true until he finished NG+, as all of the 120 original games are not done yet

Post Destiny Bungie: I'm gonna act like I didn't hear that
Most of the original Bungie team left at that point, some are executives at Microsoft or in 343 and some independent. very few are actually at bungie.
@@Bobinarea52 100% the vast majority of those core, cynical perfectionists we saw in the vidocs are gone.
Not to mention modern Bungie tried to royally fuck over Marty so fuck'em.
343 may have had issues getting their heads out of their asses but at least they aren't malicious to their players and actually show willingness to change we will see with infinite how much they are keeping with their word though.
The terminals in Halo CE and 2 were actually added during the remakes/remasters by 343i, not Bungie.
Post destiny bungie is like yo read up fam. I expect your report on my desk on Monday.
it's a shame that the storytelling didn't stay as quality as the art direction and shooting mechanics did, destiny with an actual story would have been amazing
Edit: thank you for the likes! Never reached 1k before...also, giving away a free power ranger helmet on my channel at the time of this edit!
Funny story:
So during my time in the Navy I lived in the Barracks where my room would be inspected weekly by some of my superiors (Chief and a Master Chief) and I happened to be outside the room (working).
To my surprise, one of the chiefs told me that Master chief wanted to see me. Not knowing why, I was nervous until I came to his office and right there on his desk, was my master chief helmet replica.
He immediately says: "Now WHY are you keeping MY helmet in your room? You're not authorized to wear such an important part of the uniform, let alone hold something like this in your room?"
We both instantly started laughing at that moment and he actually showed off my helmet to my other superiors (including officers) where they asked me how I got the helmet. It was a very fun day as he and other complimented how cool it was and even apologized for taking it out of my room. He gave me an outstanding rating (for my room inspection) and to the point where my room wasn't inspected for an entire month. We occasionally meet each other in the hallway where he askes regularly if I've kept the helmet clean before the day he actually left my command.
Him and others would occasionally joke about it for a few years and especially when halloween came around; warning me that I wasn't rank appropriate to actually wear the armor/suit but at the same time asked me why I didn't come into work wearing it lol.
Cool story bro.
Amazing story dude
Thank you for your service, also!
Now that’s a wholesome story I can get behind. 😁
9/10 story but the believability rating is a rough 2
I still remember playing this for the first time in the first grade, a decade and a half ago. My stepdad owned both Halo 1 and 2 and was getting ready for 3; he wanted a co-op buddy for his run, so he let me stay up late to play with him. The most notable event was our time in the maintenance hallways on the Pillar of Autumn. In the midst of trying to find the flashlight button on the old Xbox controller, I accidentally threw a plasma grenade... directly into the back of dad's head. One oops later, we were back at a checkpoint.
I recall that I never finished Halo 2 with him; our first interaction with the Gravemind terrified me and I had to take a break from it. A little while later, I dove back in with Halo 3, but I never actually finished 2 with him; maybe it's time to change that.
Finish the fight
IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY , FINISH THE FIGHT.
It’s a small detail, but the one thing I missed with the MCC is the title screen of each game. I completely forgot they are not in the MCC, so when I fired up Halo: CE and expecting to see the title screen; I was taken out of the moment and remembered it isn’t in here. :(
I hear it's very easy to replace the new MCC title screen with whatever you want, including the original Halo 1 Title screen
The missing loading screens are what gets me. :(
Codysir I’ll have to look into this.
I miss the loading screens weirdly enough, as much as I like concept art I think Halo 3's original loading screen is prettier to look at.
Man, you know what I miss? The loading screens. They actually settedd the mood for the campaign missions. Now I feel like I'm just up to a multiplayer match...
The slow light moving, touching the mysterious backgrounds. Man, that was kinda creepy and awesome.

Back in 2001 I was turning to the tender age of 7, and we just had moved futher away from my friends and my dad bought me a xbox and couple of games, one of course being Halo.
And honestly Halo was one of the reasons that my english was way better than anyone else on my age.
But what truly makes Halo: CE special to me is the fact that it was the only thing that me and my dad played together, we both enjoyed the game and we played it through countless times on legendary to the point wr had to get a new copy of the game since the first one broke.
Now nearly 20 years later me and my friend are completing the LASO run for all Halo games and I have decided that when it's done I will get the legendary skulls as a tattoo, as my first tattoo.
Halo series will always hold a special place in my heart, even though I didn't enjoy the 4th and never buying the 5th.
I'm just wondering what you mean by the legendary skulls? You mean the Elite head with the 2 energy swords or do you mean the actual skulls?
4th is pretty good but different and 5 yeah dont think even looking at it
Bro same. I'll always love the Halo series and it'll always be so important to me. I've played it with my dad so many times we know almost every corner of every level.

Halo soundtrack still gives me chills, the game was just so thoroughly epic.
I'm so happy that Jirard is starting to go easier on himself as far as completion criteria. I just want to see a well made video, I don't care about tiny little achievements that take multiple hours to achieve and yield zero unlocks.
darktempalor can he really call himself the completionist if he doesn’t complete the game 100%?
@@johnmcbob7294 If you want the game completed 100% so bad then do it yourself.
Noriaki Kakyoin I’m not the completionist.
@@johnmcbob7294 With some games the requirements to 100% complete it can be more of a joke than anything else, it's not like the creators really expect anyone to spend hundreds of hours doing multiple playthroughs just to get a secret ending or getting to top rank in any online game with leader boards. I only 100% complete very few games and i only do it if i enjoy the game enough to justify it. Recently i decided i would get back all my Xbox 360 achievements (about 4000) which i lost when Microsoft deleted my old account. I have already done many achievements with crazy requirements but when you drive yourself to complete Call of Duty 2 on veteran or do the 7 day survivor in Dead Rising it can get overwhelming. I just hope Jirard can continue to enjoy completing games without it affecting his health or sanity. It can take a lot more skill, time and patience than most of us have.
@@XRebelRenegadeX To add to this, doing all those achievements sometimes leads to ruining the entire experience for Jirard. You've heard it tons of times: "I really loved this game other than doing this mundane task that never was meant to be done."

I know this is a weird thing to know/point out, but the talk of the cool, unique, tiny details that help it feel so REAL made me feel the need to mention: The different alien types have different colors of blood. Something they definitely didn't HAVE to do, that really makes them all feel like actual aliens, with strange anatomy different from our own. Which I totally don't know because I was a weird child who got distracted by how pretty Elite/Sangheili blood is... And then the Flood is different from everyone else with its weird dark green slime blood, which is already unsettling BEFORE you realize it means they're so completely different from everything you've faced before down to every last cell.
Woah! I've played through this game so many times and never noticed the different colors of blood. Thanks for commenting this
Please find a way to "Complete" the rest of the series. I love your content and I love Halo

My friends and I always loved the NPC Marines. We often times found new and interesting challenges with them. From keeping them all alive on the first stage, to dancing with them throughout the game. We even had nicknames for each of the personailties. The British dude was "Cheerio". The hispanic dude was Burrito. And the scared dude we called Hudson (from Aliens.) This game is almost infinitely replayable.
Halo CE is such an important game for me, personally.
I remember playing with my uncle on his xbox (him guiding and translating for me as the only english phrase I knew was "How do you do! I'm Kevin.") and the simple act of turning the flashlight on and off on my own felt revolutionary.
I see Halo as the franchise that made me a gamer and in turn a completionist. I love this game so much and it's one I still play every now and then.
So happy to see you giving this a shot, Jirard. Especially after hearing the crew talk about never doing Halo because of the medals. I love this video so much!

Great video. As an only child playing campaign, if I didnt have a friend to co-op with I always found myself redoing playthroughs to try and keep marines alive. Dudes weren't always the best fighters, but their attitude and quirks were everything.
The coop friend always wanted to shoot them for some reason, and I never understood why.
I barely play anything on Xbox anymore but Halo's spot in my heart is a warm and fond one and I doubt anything will replace it. Nothing like having a bunch of TV's and Xboxs hooked up in the day room in my Military tech school and playing halo all night drinking beer and eating pizza with the guys. Was such a good damn time, thanks for bringing those memories up Completionist, appreciate it.
6:52 "A big GRUNTY thirst!"
Ahhh another quote to take out of context.
15:42 you can turn on Competitive Scoring. Which shows a timer and your score at the same time.
And for 16:23, it’s been updated with newer skulls. However the LASO would be massively changed with those new skills so they weren’t added in.
So I'm a little bummed that you didn't even touch upon the epic score composed by Marty O'Donnell. This franchise easily has one of the greatest soundtracks in video game history, and it all started with Halo: CE.
Man I really hate the anniversary graphics. They make the environments too bright and took away some atmospheric detail. So there's no reason for the flashlight and environmental story telling isn't as strong
Exacly
I am so happy they allowed to play in classic graphics
Oddly enough my first "Exposure" to Halo was through the Web series, Red vs Blue. It's a really good watch, highly recommend

Its not that bad if you know what your doing. Dont get me wrong. Its still hard as ballz. But if you know the game inside out and know how to use the skulls to your advantage. Its a bit easier than one would expect
@@PyraJord agreed. i would argue H2 is the only "2nd player mandatory" LASO mode in MCC and the shortcuts amd despawns in CE make things so much easier albeit not necessarily foolproof (lookin' at you, cliffside in the snowy area...)
I am glad you paired down to just the single player mode. I’m glad you covered one of my favorite games love you my dude and keep your head up.
I love the Library mission, and the total change in mood. Game goes from a badass sci-fi shooter to an action horror.
I still love these games, and that one specific musical theme still gets me hyped every time I hear it.
I still remember playing through 343 Guilty Spark and the Library at 10 pm while I was 8. Shit scared me, but Halo has been something that I've loved ever since.
I still have PTSD from those levels. Played HCE with a friend via online co-op, and we spent the Flood levels running around screaming our heads off! One of us would die, and it'd be up to the sole survivor to run to safety.

i loved Halo as a kid. played Halo 1 constantly with my older brother. didn't play alot of 2, because my brother graduated from high school around that time, and i didn't have xbox live yet. Halo 3 i played alot too, and i met my best friend to this day because of that game. then around 2009 i started PC gaming, and tried played Halo: Reach, but i just couldn't stand FPS on controller anymore. the MCC collection coming to PC, after not touching the Halo series in almost a decade, has been amazing. i have realized what really makes Halo special, at least for me, is that Halo is THE total package game. i can't think of any other game series that at its height did the 3 main pillars of single player, co-op, and muiltiplayer, all at the same time, as well as Halo did it.
The first section of the level simply and appropriately titled ''Halo'' is still perhaps the most memorable moment in gaming for me. The open green hills, blue skies and the rest of that mysterious Halo ring extending from your location. The alien design of that covenant dropship, and my god... That feeling when I stumbled upon those Forerunner ruins, the energy bridge, the plasma pistol, needler, and the music! Everything came together.
Ooh I’ve been WAITING for this one!
You have no idea how long I've been waiting for my favorite video game franchise of all time to appear on this channel :') thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now please give us Halo 2 haha
Didn't remember how kickass soundtrack Halo and Halo 2 had.
It's super cool how you can instantly switch between old and new modes, even how every sound changes with the swap is so cool.
As a kid whenever I wasnt playing a Nintendo game I was very likely playing Halo at a friends house, playing the campaign or goofing in multiplayer trying to glitch our way out of bounds of the map. Even to this day I consider this series to have one of the most satisifying gameplay among shooters ever, the gunplay, the vehicles and the enemies with each one their own unique behavior made a perfect cake.
Thanks Jirard for taking me back to those times ;D
I remember playing Halo PC years ago, and playing multiplayer on modded servers. ARs shooting rockets and shotguns firing tank shells is a glorious sight.
I get the same feeling when Jirard uploads as when I find a $20 on the ground.
Halo 1 and 2 were some of the best splitscreen co-op experiences I ever had.
I LOVE the transitions! That is such fantastic attention to detail. Thanks for giving such great justice to the game, its franchise, and its legacy! Loved the video!
IVE BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR THIS
I was literally thinking about a completionist review of this the other day.
My first memory of this game cements it into my life.
My dad and I just bought an original Xbox in the store without really doing our research or understanding the product. We saw a console and shrugged our shoulders bc we basically still had an N64. We didn’t play as soon as we got home, and he told me we’ll play it in the morning.
First thing I hear is his laughing SO hard in the other room that it woke me up. I stumbled in and asked what was so funny. He reloaded the checkpoint and showed me the part in the first level where they show you how to smack a grunt in the back of the head. The rest is history.
I'm currently in the final run with my MCC on Steam. Currently on 627 achievements out of 700. Nearly 2 years going, hopefully done before Infinite comes out.
"The fact you can't keep track of both your score and your time seems like a gross oversight" Now if only there was something that would fix that .... O wait I remember there is, Competitive Scoring
Oh my GOD IT'S HAPPENING
Thank you for this. Your work always seems to keep me going through rough times. Halo has always been close to my heart, so the notification for this vid was wonderful.
Achievements for me usually feel like a way to show my own appreciation for how much I enjoyed a game and the experience
same, only really good games are the ones that I want to get most of the achievements on and some games are more enjoyable because of the achievements added
Imagine if this video was about completing the Master Chief Collection instead of just Halo 1.
Dude you have great content and this video is great. However, as a Halo fan I can’t believe you when you say you did all of that including beating LASO with only 181 deaths and in only 45 hours. I’ve been playing Halo nonstop since the first game and just beating Truth and Reconciliation alone on LASO can take easily 4 hours and you have to pretty much completely break the game through glitches and spawn manipulation. Now I can believe you if you did the save and quit glitch every time you died but there’s no way you would get to the ship in Truth and Reconciliation which would no doubt take you an hour alone to get to and then not die to the literal 4-7 golden elites that come after you when you can’t even pick up covenant weapons to drain their shields out. Like either you are a literal god at this game or you didn’t do LASO. Hell even the very first drop ship area on the level Halo can easily take you hours if you don’t know how to manipulate the enemies into staying in the middle of the field behind the tower while you are in the back behind the rock. Sorry if I come off as an asshole or aggressive it’s just I’ve put so much time into Halo CE and I can’t believe you did that and didn’t lose your fucking mind and only in 45 hours.
Came here to say this
The 181 deaths thing was likely a stat glitch
Fantastic job at conveying the spontaneity and variety of Halo's gameplay! As someone who recently revisited the entire franchise front-to-back, I discovered a new found appreciation for the sort of "laissez-faire" approach that Halo seemed to apply to its combat scenarios and weapon usage and even found myself replaying levels just for the hell of it , without having any goals in mind or worrying about achievements. And yes, it's well worn out at this point but man, that pistol is so goddamn satisfying.
I loved this game when I was a kid. Played through the missions endlessly, not to complete the game as per these standards, but just for the joy of it. While I'm not as big a fan of the direction the series took after Halo 3, that first trilogy was absolutely magical to me.
Oh wow! Didn't expect this :) Halo 1 is absolutely amazing, if you get into the right mindset (aka, nay to energy swords, yay to the best iteration of the assault rifle in the series)
Especially the one shot magnum.
I really love how everything in Halo 1 has its purpose, even compared to other Halo games like Reach where the DMR can do everything or Halo 2 where the pistol was nerfed so hard that it didn't even have a reason to exist anymore.
I'm proud to say I have completed the MCC. Just an fyi to anyone who wants to complete it, the LASO playlists are almost impossible without one or more friends and/or mods. Seriously.
1 and 3 are manageable, if you’re good enough. 4 is frustrating and random. 2... is literally impossible without exploits (the mission Regret specifically.)

I loved Halo, it was the first fps I was exposed to as a kid. Seeing Jirard complete it brought a whole lot of memories back. I love this franchise
Dang! You've got a game completed for every day of the year now.
Thanks for posting this. Despite being one of the most successful franchises of all time; and not just video games, but media in general; the Halo games have very little retrospective content on youtube outside of Halo specific channels; and I think that's a shame. I don't know if it's because it's associated with the "dudebro" audience and people think there's not substance to back up it's popularity or what, but the Halo games are deeply special and there's not a lot that much like them, and they deserve as much anayslis and attention as titles like the Mario games, Metal Gear, Zelda, etc.
That being said the MCC version isn't quite definitive as a way to play it: in Classic Graphic there's a few missing visual effects. I don't think that outwieghs all the other additions and improvements, but it's not ideal for sure.
One thing I do love about the terminals in this game is that the last one teases the villain for HALO 4, so if you're a player who is going through the games for the first time and actually going through the effort of finding and watching the terminals, then it feels like it's all come full circle and and it just gives a huge mind blown feeling at the time.
Only took you OVER A DECADE. That countdown timer in the intro gave me chills though
Now all there's left is just one pressing question
Do you ever wonder.... Why are we here?
Are the "vidmaster" achievements still a thing? I remember those being absolute hell to get back in the day. My friends and I wasted dozens of hours on them and still never got them all on every game.
Only 2 are still in the game to my knowledge, annual from halo 3 (last level everybody in ghosts) and deja vu from odst (last level infinite rocket launcher ammo)
All the 7 vidmaster challenges are in MCC. They don't give you extra armor like in H3 but they're still fun to do.
This video reminds me of something I encountered on the Xbox One version of MCC’s Halo 1. I was on the final mission, at the beginning room of the Warthog Run. Every time I got inside the Warthog and pressed forward on my control stick, I ended up immediately dying from a massive explosion. This persisted for a whole hour’s worth of attempts until I somehow managed to survived the explosion and was able to make my way out of the room. I was playing by myself as well, so I couldn’t have been the target of a friendly-fire Rocket Launcher. To this day, I can’t make sense of it. It felt like a glitch to me, but nowhere on the Internet did I find anyone with a similar issue. It was just Master Chief levels of dumb luck that managed to see me through to the completion of the campaign.
You have SERIOUSLY improved. Your tone is much calmer and you are much more fun to watch. Also it might just be me but your mic quality sounds incredible here.
Can we take a minute to appreciate how damn good the remastered graphics look? I found myself switching between the two modes very often because I loved them both so much
I do think they're great but some of the darker levels are too bright now, such as 343 guilty spark. That level doesn't have the same mysterious, scary tone with the new graphics
The Halo series are the best FPS games.
For sure!
Untouchaable nope Medal of Honor series on PS2
Nope the shooting sections in banjo-tooie
Half-Life 2 >>>>>>>>>> ALL shooters.

I cared about the marines so much in the early halo games (basically pre-343) that I would restart the checkpoint if one of them died. I'd protect them and track them in my peripheral vision so I knew where they were and what they were doing. There was nothing more gut wrenching and creepy than standing in an empty room alone, surrounded by dead allies, knowing that you could have done something to save them. Plus, their personalities really do bring them to life. I'd feel happy leaving a room or area knowing that all my teammates survived, with a a sense of accomplishment. And I'd even try my best to keep them alive in vehicles too. Like in halo 2 when you get the Scorpion tanks on the bridge at the beginning with two marines (and a rare extra one running along the bridge if he's not killed by wraiths). One second you're driving along, take a huge plasma ball to the face, and suddenly the two marines that were sat on your tank have disappeared. You connect with the marines through dialogue and cutscenes in ways that 343 have never done, and that's what makes this game so special. You actually feel something for them. I'd even go as far as running into a room and clearing it before my allies arrived, just to save a few grunts as the arbiter.
Glad to see you took the route you did with your terms of completion after seeing the video you posted a while back. Hope everything is going well for ya during these trying times!
Ok bit of a long story but my most memorable moments of playing Halo happen when I was playing multiplayer mode in either Reach or the Master Chief Collection and I was on a Team with my friend and we were against Team that had my brother and another friend and and the Match lasted a long time because me and the friend i was teamed up with were a lot more compatible than the friend my brother was teamed up with because they kept killing each other for some reason while my team were taken it seriously and were actually working together and l tried to snipe the friend that my brother was teamed up with but I missed but since I was already committed I decided not to give up and continue to fire while also inching closer until I was close enough to Malay him and once I got that close I did that until his character died and that won the Match
You're sheer dedication to complete games is still mind boggingly awesome and inspiring! Not to mention the great quality of videos you and your team make. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and keep vigilant.

Thank you Jirard and crew for creating the best video game show I’ve watched thus far. (I’ve been watching them since the birth of G4 back in the early 2000’s). I know you guys have had a million hurdles along the way and RUclips sucks for people like you. But you guys put out great content every single time. So congratulations on the amazing channel. I hope that The Completionist tour comes to Columbus, Ohio once things clear up. And I have finally watched every episode. 🥳
Oh man I just started watching, and the respawn sound effect at the end of the intro filled me with nostalgia, this is going to be a good time.
Hard to imagine that I was 13-14 when i got to own an original Xbox, and the Halo came with it. I was captivated by the scenery, the lore, the characters.
It was really something unusual and incredible.

Bungie's other franchise, Marathon: ...Nobody loves me...
Konoko from Oni: Have some cereal. You might remember me in 15 years.
I love Halo. It warms my heart to see you cover this series.
This was a really chill episode. Really like how this one turned out! Good on ya!
YES!!!! I’ve been waiting years for you to complete Halo!!
Proud of you man x
Wow the editing in this video is beautiful. I like the Halo level title transitions.
I just picked this game up last week and played for a few hours, got to Halo and immediately had the same reaction of "whoa" when I stepped off the lifeboat. Had a nostalgia callback to when I first played Halo back in 2004 or 5. Feel like I'm playing the game again for the first time. I love it. PC btw
Its funny you're posting this now as i just finished playing this game again on the MCC on xbox one. Loved it
Oh yes tht countdown in the begginning, the beeping brought back memories
I remember those days, playing halo and thinking how cool it would be on PC. So glad it’s finally here
This was the second video game I ever played, back when I was four years old. Still love this series today.
Legit never thought I'd see you complete this because of how much it demands from you. Totally agree with and respect your approach to the game.
