    These don't fit with the eSun spools just an FYI. But I still made some for my other manufactures. They print nice and look great. I followed your instructions and love em.

    Great video. I have printed another spool converter specially for Inland. I rip the outer cardboard off first then screw together which causes spinning somtimes on retraction. I might give these a shot to see if its better performance. Appreciate the video!

      TBH, I don't like any of these adapters and I avoid Cardboard in my AMS like the Plague! Let us know how it goes

  • @boggisthecat
    @boggisthecat 7 месяцев назад +2

    You are best off respooling onto a plastic reel. I found that the eSUN cardboard spools have the added problem of the windings tending to be jammed hard down the edges of the spool, making for too much friction and the AMS motors can’t pull the filament off the spools. The cardboard spools they use have too much give, which messes up the winding. The filament works fine when rewound onto a plastic spool.
    There are some brands (the cheaper ones, interestingly) that are working on making the edges of the cardboard spools tougher. They have added glue and rounded over the edges. Those appear to work as well as plastic spools, from my - very limited so far - use of them.

    • @3DRundown
      @3DRundown  7 месяцев назад +1

      Personally, I avoid them and the adapters and just go plastic. I do think we will see more changes over time, and in my experience, some of the lower cost, lesser known filaments, are the better ones. Go figure. 👍🏼

      There is a local (New Zealand) importer that has their own branded products - Chinese, but beyond that I cannot tell the source. They have PLA filaments with iron, steel, and copper infills.
      The copper stuff seems pretty hard on the extruder (a nice copper coating inside it after only some small test prints) and the steel plays havoc with the AMS (which is twitchy at the best of times), however I have used the iron infill stuff a lot as it has a very good surface texture and prints very well. Has actual iron in it, as it sticks to magnets. Also fairly abrasive, as it ate some of the Bowden tubing pretty significantly. I have to do a full AMS rebuild to sort out some issues and do a swap of a poorly unit, so I’ll investigate how much wear was incurred.
      Cheaper than standard eSUN PLA stuff from other suppliers.
      It will be interesting to see if scale ramps up and we see better filaments for lower prices.

    I tried various things.... but the one thing that does work is just re spooling them using the pastamatic. I added a small motor to it and a switch so that it turns off when its done spooling.
    I start the spooling then make a cup of tea. It only takes a couple of mins if that. I use these for my business so reliability is worth the extra bit of time. I could never get any of the rims etc to work as reliably as winding it onto a bambu spool.

    Had an A1 combo that I returned for the recall. I was thinking of upgrading, but after reading so many post about cardboard spools not playing well with the enclosed AMS, I may just get another A1 when they get re-released. I don't do exotic filaments, and the AMS lite doesn't care about cardboard ;)

      Still new at this...apologies. I'm assuming by "OG" you mean use the enclosed AMS as used on the P and X series (?) I get that, but I understand that rewinding filaments on spools may not be a good idea due to how that are extruded onto the original spools, which could lead to cracking, etc. Or are you suggesting just purchasing filaments on OEM plastic spools?...sorry again about the novice queeries :/

    I do find the spool rings better than this one, because of moister a spool can be slightly not rounded and with this solution you will have a little step during the rotation, with a ring you can push the spool in and everything will be smooth... I printed a small riser for the ams lid and now basically every imperfect spool fits

    • @3DRundown

      Truth be told, I don't like any of it. I stick to Plastic. I print ALLOT, and I've found that there are so many variables, that can cause a cardboard spool to fair, even with various methods.

      @@nerkTV I never found a solution so I redesigned my dry boxes to support the spool through the center hole. But the problems didn't stop there, the 5 spools from Elegoo that I had were so tightly wound that it would stop the extruder from pulling the filament through, resulting in failed prints. My fix for that is a bullet shaped piece on the end of some PTFE tube inside the dry box. I believe it's available from the Bambu maker world. I just checked and it isn't available as it failed their slice test so hasn't been published. Worked okay for me 😄

    How does this work when the original cardboard spools (so far like 4+ brands I have on hand) are running REALLY close to the edge of the rubberized roller on the AMS (i.e. those rolls are thicker, so many times only a hair of either/both edges of the spool is on the roller in the AMS to begin with), and when you add MORE thickness to this, like your design does, they're then thicker STILL... putting even WAY less surface area for those thinnish rollers to grab onto and move the spool back and forth.
    Also, and I truly don't mean to be nasty here, but please don't comment with "just use Plastic spools" like you're done here many times... that's really NOT a solution... it is SUCH a PITA to re-spool one cardboard roll to a plastic roll... do NOT want to go that route... just want my ~$1500 X1C w/ AMS to work...

    • @3DRundown
      @3DRundown  4 месяца назад

      Well, my answer is exactly that. Just use plastic spools. There are so many quality brands that use Plastic spools, I can't think of any reason to stress over cardboard spools. There are also endless printable model options, for cardboard spools, that people use on the regular. Me, I do not. I burn threw countless plastic spools a month on my Bambu's, and I have no plan to change that. I go through tons of Elegoo, Jayo, Creality, Anycubic, Sunlu..... Take your pick

  • @alexchen1442
