- Legend has it that The Luther Burger was invented by the man himself, Luther Vandross. Others say that it was invented by the owner of Mulligan's Bar in Decatur, Georgia who was hungry for a burger but ran out of buns, so he used donuts instead. In any case, this is a surprisingly good burger! Wildfire Griddle wildfireoutdoo...

I legitimately thought this was invented by the Boondocks cartoon and people started making it after that LOL
I thought that it was a joke from Boondocks. Grandad made this burger in one of the episodes.
No, that's what kind of launched the burger into the mainstream though.
Haha came here to say this. The Boondocks was the first time I'd heard of it. Didn't realize it's origins were older. Great video as usual, Greg!
Coondocks
I'm from North Georgia. In Atlanta we have a place called The Vortex. You should check out their coronary bypass burgers. They come in a single all the way up to a triple. They have bacon and fried eggs and their buns are made out of grilled cheese sandwiches. I think the triple bypass is somewhere around 10 to 15000 calories
This burger reminds me to them of the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas. if you cant leave the restaurant they supply a wheel chair for you. Some of their customers seems to be in a desperate need...
I've seen those on TV before. CRAZY!
Yes they are almost identical to the ones in Vegas. The Vortex is really neat. They have 2 locations in ATL and they have stand up comedy shows there too
A cross between dinner and dessert. It's interesting how musicians come up with dishes. That looks great, but requires lots of napkins. Cheers, Greg! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🍔
What musician? Luther Vandross didn't create this burger.
@quincee3376 Musicians can come up with dishes, or they can influence how something is created.
@@dwaynewladyka577 i agree. Maybe i just misread your comment. I thought you thought Luther Vandross created this burger but it was just named after him.
It was a tad messy! Thanks, Dwayne!
The debate is did he come up with the burger, or did the owner of Mulligan's come up with it.
Another winner 🎉I’d add some spicy pickles to add to the sweet/salty!
Great video, again! Thx!
Sounds good! Thanks, Bill!
Most American thing I've ever seen. Looks interesting. Love from Western Australia.
Thanks Greg - Not sure I woulld try either one of these, but nice to see the variation. - Cheers!
I pineapple ring would be a perfect match for this type of "bun" ;)
This burger proves there is no limit to culinary creativity lol 😂
Looks good Greg. Thanks for bringing it to us!
Thanks again, Gary!
Decatur, Ga stand up!!!
Thank you for this very interesting recipe...
Most welcome 😊
Here in Baton Rouge They use King Cake.
They did look pretty tasty. I'm not sure if I'd like the donut buns or not, but I guess I'll never know if I don't try it. So I suppose I'll have to do a video on this to see. Another great video, Greg. 👍👍
Do it, Ron! You have to know, it's in writing!
donut, bacon, double cheese…
reckon I put on about 5 kilograms and had a mild stroke just watching this video
Fun idea for a burger. I did something like this with brisket a few years back and was unimpressed butnitnwas more about the experience that the taste lol. Cheers!
The camera work showing the two burgers cooking was good. But I am interested n how the sugar donut affected the charcoal grilled taste, Always great to see what you are cookin' up, Greg!
Great video! Have you ever done a video showing how you clean your Blackstone and Wildfire Griddles?
I don't think I have, but all I do is hit it with water while it's blazing hot and use a scraper. The steam pretty much removes all of the solids that are stuck to the grill.
have you ever done the carls jr. western bacon cheeseburger?
bbq sauce, bacon and onion rings.
I'm curious.
I'll have to pick up some donuts next time I'm making burgers.
I am going to make donut burger and I had the doubt to put the sugar side up or down. I thought put the sugar facing the burger, but Thanks to your vídeo I will do the oposite.
I've seen this done with two jelly doughnuts as buns.
What would be a little too much for me!
Throw an egg on there and have yourself a hamburger McGriddle.
Does the cheddar go well with this or would a less strong cheese be better do you think?
Finally a burger with NO onions
You forgot the grilled onions even says in the show the luthor burger has grilled onions on ig
Did you get that bacon in Bishop?
I wonder how a maple glazed would work? Your griddle does not look seasoned. Is it a different type of surface?
It's funny because donuts are too sweet for me (not the biggest fan of sweet, sugary things) but I've had donut burgers before and they are actually really good. Was very similar to the Mulligan's. Who knew cheese with donuts goes well? lol. I knew bacon did as I've had "bacon sprinkles" on donuts before. Also yeah, I'm with you Greg, I like how the donuts are soft as buns lol.
Yeah, I was expecting this to be way sweeter than it was. Cheers, Tim!
A single donut is definitely more reasonable, and I'd try the glazed side in version sometime, if I was feeling extra gluttonous.😂
Both were pretty good, but I'm going to stick to regular buns!
I'd give one a try but I'm not sure the sweet/savoury clash would appeal to me. Still you don't know until you try .
Try to make a Nesmith burger from Moulton Alabama
I'll look into that one. Thanks!
Hi Greg ... 🤔 ... is not the donut too sweet without mustard, horseradish or something other spicy sauce❓ I'm thinking about some Italian cheese (pecorino, puzzone of Moena, or other strong taste cheese) ... 👋🏻😅🇮🇹
Honestly, the savoriness of the beef, bacon and cheese tamed the sweetness quite a bit. I can't see myself doing another cook like this to try mustard, but if you do let me know how you liked it.
@@BallisticBurgers
Thank you, I appreciate it. 😉🍻
They are definitely not healthy rated. 😂 I’ve made them and I actually drizzled a little melted chocolate over them. Different but once a year burger is what I call them. Great video Greg.
Haven't had chocolate on a burger yet. Hmmmmmmmm...
This is like the epitome of decadence, but it looks amazing.
Very decadent indeed!
😁👍🏼
I'd like to try a burger using 2 uncrustables for buns. lol
That would probably be pretty good! LOL!
@@BallisticBurgers Give it a try.
not for me but it does look neat
It was worth a try. Now its, been there done that!
Make the doughnuts into grilled cheese then continue as usual
david west youtube channel
the sound quality is pretty bad greg
The bacon is so thick that they could be called bacon steaks.
That was some really good bacon!
@@BallisticBurgers I believe you.
Why doesn’t this have an egg 🍳 on it?
Because it's a Luther Burger and not a Good Morning Burger.
Not a donut person,
I get it. Thanks for watching.
