Hi Greg, it's Mike and I trust you and your good lady are well. Yep, this is a real winner and you been doin' some great upbeat videos lately. OK, right now I want to thank you for an AMAZING 2024. This year we learnt how to cook a Smash Burger every-which-way. Then we had a great tour of LA Burgers. The highlights for me are all the Ol'Timey iconic Burgers you have saved from disappearing into history. My favourite Burger - Hodad's. Then the hilarious the cook-off with your Buddy which was Prime Time TV material. Finally, BIG SHOUT OUT to all your loyal subscribers who've posted many interesting and helpful comments this year. Happy Christmas Greg. See Y'All 2025. Mike.
A ridiculously great burger idea and always have to scroll for the kind Mike Florence comment to close the video. Merry Christmas & happy holidays to you both and to all the Ballistic BBQ people. 🍔
Greg, I absolutely love traditional OK Fried Onion Burgers, but I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and think you’re right up there with George Motz. I’ll definitely give this a try. Thanks for all you do-so many people appreciate it. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Wow! That looks fabulous! I'm going to try that (in the spring! It's too cold here in Oklahoma now) Many years ago (1990ish), I worked at a seafood bar and grille and they did a red onion marmalade that was spectacular! I think they put some cranberry juice in there. Merry Christmas my friend!! Hope you have a wonderful New Year~!
That looks great, and I think that’s the 1st burger I seen you finish on video Greg. 😂😂 Merry Christmas from my family to yours my friend. FYI, I’m jealous you’re cooking in a t shirt. Lol 29 in my backyard in Kentucky. 🤣🤣
I look forward to your videos every week, Greg. I try most of them. But, IMO, none have been better than the original OK Onion Burger you did quite a while ago. They ARE awesome.👍
Pickpuck Burger has a nice ring to it I'm glad I'm not the only crazy guy to try to do a Oklahoma with pickled onions, but I luckily cut out any additional salt on the burger since I love my pickled onions pretty spiced up with all sorts of spices - and always experimenting. I also love to use different vinegars, like sushi vinegar or once I've tried it with a couple splashes of soy sauce and so on and so forth. Burger looks taste af, now excuse me, christmas is going to have burgers now.
Sup Greg, great twist bro, easy to try! Oklahoma burger is my brother and I favorite burger! We give splash of Worchestire sauce when put onions down. Hope you and family have a great Xmas, tyvm tc 🍔 PS, I drink vinegar lol, especially from my vinegar habanero peppers. So I think I'm gonna love the pickled onion. Might pickle in leftover habanero peppers vinegar? Mind id playing ping pong lol. Mayo always great with vinegar onions or peppers 👍🏼
Not many burgers have you finished by the end of the episode Greg! Could be the 2024 Winner! Can’t beat simple. Food trucks are gonna steal this idea 😭🫡
Good job on this variation Greg. I'll definitely try it. I'm not of fan of raw onions and this method of a semi cooked pickled onion has me intrigued. Cheers
Hey Greg - You are actually "smashing" these burgers as you go along. "Oklahoma smash - pickled red onion burger"? - A variation on a theme - Thanks - Merry Christmas - Cheers!
Hey Greg, Blame Canada burger fan here! (Soupbones!) You should just call this the San Diego Onion Burger. Simple and celebrates your home town, which Ive visited back in 2014 and it was my fav city in Cali.
@BallisticBurgers I've been here. Names the same. But Soupbones email is and had always been attached to this account. I'm here. I watch pretty much all your stuff as I have for over a decade now. Keep it up Greg!
I’m trying to replicate the Easy Street burger from your video, I’m using the same smasher but I can’t seem to smash my patties as easy as you. Any tips?
@@BallisticBurgersyour tip works for the easy smash but I can’t seem to get the lacy crust that your burgers get. Also, any tips for the patties not to break apart?
I KNOW!!!! I'm pissed at myself for forgetting Johnnies. I have an old handwritten map of El Reno listing all of the burgers joints back in the day. I dropped the ball on that one.
Great video as always Greg. Can you do a Boll Weevil Steer burger copycat? Their burger sauce was better than anything today and that includes Big Mac sauce and InNOut sauce, which I love both. Happy Holidays!
There's a blast from the past! I remember Boll Weevil and their Lazy Suzan of toppings. I'm struggling to remember the sauce though. They changed the name to, The Weevil Burger a while back and there is one not too far from where I live. I'll swing by and see if they're using the original sauce.
@@BallisticBurgers Thanks Greg. I'm looking forward to it. If anyone can do it, I'm sure it's you. I would check them out, but I live in Arizona now. I loved their pickles and the turtle or tortoise shells on the wall. That probably wouldn't fly in today's world, Merry Christmas.
I do like dill pickles but I think Famous Dave's sweet and spicy pickles might be good here. They are like a hot bread and butter pickle. Really good on burgers. Have a little heat in the background.
I didn't know the backstory of the Oklahoma burger, that's pretty interesting! Didn't expect it to go that far back! I have been doing a twist on the oklahoma burger, too. I call it the "Oklahoma Mad Goat" (OMG) - it's definitely quite far removed from the original. prep: I make balsamico caramelised onions. (low heat frying onions in some butter, till quite soft, add a little bit of sugar, salt, garlic powder and balsamic vinegar to taste, cook until sticky and holding together) finely dice some fresh onion have fried onion ready slice some soft white goat cheese (brie or camembert work well for those who don't like goat cheese) wash and dry some arugula toast buns and fry a burger patty like in the video just with the caramelised onions and goats cheese on patty tiny bit of mayo on both buns some dijon and the diced onions on the bottom bun then the onion-cheese-patty a bit of a smokey brown bbq sauce arugula and some of the fried/crunchy onion on the top bun (should stick thanks to the mayo) done
One thing many people on RUclips don't mention or understand is onions. There are strong long keeper onions and sweet short keepers. I'm almost positive that they used the long keeper yellow onions. Not the sweet yellow onions. There are various types in all the colors of onions. They don't offer them in the grocery stores. You can also ferment the onion like you would sauerkraut. I would personally use mayonnaise instead of yellow mustard. 😮
I really do like these "very simple" kinda burgers. I don't need a burger piled up like a skyscraper. What is it good for? Few ingredients. Good quality. I'm still experimenting with mayo. And from that: remoulade and burger sauce. There are so many options! Just grinding nori seaweed to a powder for that Nowon burger. You may have overlooked my question on it: what kinda seaweed is that guy using? I'm trying nori, now. But it also could be kombu. (One guy just flavoured the vinegar for his mayo with kombu. Not longer than 2hrs, he said.) It could be wakame. I need to take a seaweed class, haha! Happy holidays from the far north of Germany!

It's funny how Oklahoma lays claim to the onion burger. I suggest you go to Salina Kansas and visit Cozy Inn burgers. They just celebrated their 100-year anniversary in 2022. They started in 1922. Onion burger sliders. Before any onion burger started in Oklahoma. Even White Castle started in Wichita . Tried to claim to be the first. It was Cozy Inn in Salina Kansas. Check them out for yourself.. When you go into Cozy's, you wear the smell home. You can walk into work after eating at cozy's and everyone will smell you and say, you ate at cozy's didn't you.
