  • This is a great day hike in Grand Teton National Park just outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It is an 11.5 mile out and back hike to Surprise & Amphitheater Lakes as well as Glacier Basin. This trail boasts 3,100 ft of elevation gain in just 5 miles. Once you get to Amphitheater Lake, take some time to hike around it. Be sure to go the extra 1/4 mile to the north up to the rim of Glacier Basin. Here there are amazing views of all of the major peaks of the Tetons including The Grand Teton, Disappointment Peak, Mount Owen, Teewinot up close.

Been there many times, three generations of hikers there, since 1966. Your video was the best I have viewed yet. We always saw black bears on our hikes, no grizz yet.

Thank you for the kind words. We love hiking in the Tetons. I always hope my trails are free of grizz.

Awesome video thank you for posting. Have you ever hiked to Delta Lake? I’m wondering if this is a little easier of a hike?

Yes…and we have a video of it on our channel. Delta is a bit easier than amphitheater. Enjoy the trails.

Very cool! That's a bear of a hike - I didn't make it past Surprise. But I blame it on the impending thunderstorm! I used to call Grand Teton home, but I had to trade it in for living in Mammoth! Hope to see more from your channel as I've just subbed. Look me up if you guys are ever up in these parts and need a third wheel for a Yellowstone hike. Cheers. William

Too bad about the thunderstorm - you were so close to awesomeness. Great part of the country you live in. Thanks for the comments. Happy trails!

No big deal but what you have labeled as the upper saddle is actually the lower saddle. The upper saddle is off to the right and is visible from the lower saddle if you were climbing the Grand.

Hey! Lol. Is that a 10mm you’re carrying? I want to go on the hike but my guess is that you need to go in a group. Screw running into a Grizzly! Lol. Bear spray will just piss him off......

You don't need a group to do this hike. There will be a lot of people on the trail and you will have company. We have done it lots of time late in the year and didn't see many people; no problem.
