When people talk of a beautiful production, this has to be one of them! The vocals are insane, the instruments so on point. Everytime I listen to this song, I enter another world altogether.
Lyrics - English meaning He aha rā te ao e hora nei Ka kore noa ahau i a koe Nā te aha rā koe i moumou atu ai Ko te kura Ko te kura koti whero He onekura toto te whakangarotanga Ki te riu o te whenua I tau ai taku mauri I tau ai taku ngākau Ka rongo ahau i te aroha Ka kite ahau i te ahi kai pō Taukapo mai taku hinātore Taukapo mai i te pōkerekere I te pōuriuri Taku hinātore I tau ai taku mauri I tau ai taku ngākau Ka rongo ahau i te aroha Ka kite ahau i te ahi kai pō Ka hika taku ahi Ki a koe rā kautetetū Ka hika taku ahi He ahi kā E mahana i taku kiri māeke He ahi i tāmō He ahi e kore e mātao What is this world that I face? I would be nothing without you Why was your life wasted in this battle? The sea of red coats The land stained with blood Lost you are to the pits of the earth My peace is found My heart is still I feel your presence As the fire burns away the darkness Shine my beacon Shine through the despair Shine through the darkest of nights My beacon My peace is found My heart is still I feel your presence As the fire burns away the darkness My fire is sparked By Kautetetū My fire is sparked Its heat is intense My cold skin will be warmed My quivering body will be warmed An enduring fire A fire that will never be extinguished
I can only say this was amazing. Having lived in NZ for 30 years and not at all being fluent I took a moment to listen to this performance as I would have listen to another language and was swept away, just taken. Thank you
I felt his spirit and the wairua of the song and whenua of Aotearoa, in my mind, soul, body and spirit. It reduces me to tears as Maori waiata and culture always does and has done in the past, present and will always do in the future and reminds me of my time of 38 years in this beautiful country and why I chose to come here, over other nations of choice. God bless him and the performers in this amazing, powerful, production that is definitely making a bold statement and a goosebumps like presence!!!
Kia Ora from Waikato I have you playing always in my home car and even my phone, but you are definitely on repeat when 😢im miss home (Mitimiti) and all my whanau back home they awaits our return 😢😢❤ Teeks your voice speaks volumes and felt 🌎 wide.. Thankyou and May our Heavenly Father keeps blessing you ❤❤
I came here after I saw a reaction video to this performance. All so I can comment on here and tell you how beautiful your voice and this performance were. Love all they from Oregon USA. ❤
'Te Ahi Kai Pō' - a song which tries to find resolve through times of despair. Nā te aha rā koe i moumou atu ai? Ko te kura koti whero He onekura toto te whakangarotanga Ki te riu o te whenua Why was your life wasted in this battle? The sea of red coats The land stained with blood Lost you are, to the pits of the earth…" Ria Hall
Absolutely captivating. I've never heard kapa haka vocals in an orchestral context like this before and it is every bit as powerful as you'd expect - by the end I felt like my blood was on fire, and I think if I were in that crowd I would have been in tears. Looking up the lyrics of the song, I understand why. I love seeing fellow Islanders using their craft so beautifully, and boldly occupying these spaces with the full dignity of our people. This is my first time hearing TEEKS, and this powerful song by Ria. As a Samoan creative myself, I am feeling both incredibly humbled and so inspired. Thank you all for this incredible experience!
Thank you for sharing your soul, the soul of your people. Inspirational. You transcend cultural divides. The ones that you blessed with this offering are the ones this was meant for. Namaste my brother 🎶
Absolutely magnificent to hear that. This is the best performance by far in any artist or even a live artist ever in any genres all around so far. So proud. 🥰🥺
I felt every bit of this, the passion behind those vocals brought me to tears. What a performance 🔥🔥 I would've balled with tears if i was in the audience
'Te Ahi Kai Pō' - a song which tries to find resolve through times of despair. I googled there a beautiful explanation behind it which makes it even more powerful
From the description of Ria Hall's video (she originally wrote this waiata (song)): "'Te Ahi Kai Pō' means 'the fire burning away the darkness' and is in reference to finding peace following the aftermath of war. The battle of Te Ranga in June of 1864 is the inspiration for this song, which was an unplanned slaughter of many Māori. This spiritless attack was in retaliation to the battle of Pukehinahina, where the British found themselves at a loss to the Māori". Hope this helps

Didn't understand a word said but felt it and had chills throughout 🥺 .. All the way from South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤️

Ria has composed such a powerful song
Lyrics - English meaning
He aha rā te ao e hora nei
Ka kore noa ahau i a koe
Nā te aha rā koe i moumou atu ai
Ko te kura
Ko te kura koti whero
He onekura toto te whakangarotanga
Ki te riu o te whenua
I tau ai taku mauri
I tau ai taku ngākau
Ka rongo ahau i te aroha
Ka kite ahau i te ahi kai pō
Taukapo mai taku hinātore
Taukapo mai i te pōkerekere
I te pōuriuri
Taku hinātore
I tau ai taku mauri
I tau ai taku ngākau
Ka rongo ahau i te aroha
Ka kite ahau i te ahi kai pō
Ka hika taku ahi
Ki a koe rā kautetetū
Ka hika taku ahi
He ahi kā
E mahana i taku kiri māeke
He ahi i tāmō
He ahi e kore e mātao
What is this world that I face?
I would be nothing without you
Why was your life wasted in this battle?
The sea of red coats
The land stained with blood
Lost you are to the pits of the earth
My peace is found
My heart is still
I feel your presence
As the fire burns away the darkness
Shine my beacon
Shine through the despair
Shine through the darkest of nights
My beacon
My peace is found
My heart is still
I feel your presence
As the fire burns away the darkness
My fire is sparked
By Kautetetū
My fire is sparked
Its heat is intense
My cold skin will be warmed
My quivering body will be warmed
An enduring fire
A fire that will never be extinguished
